Recently, it was brought up in a Suggestion thread I made that "Ray of Hope" Ending had a really misleading-looking title, and it was changed to "Ray of Hope" Ending so that people wouldn't think it was about the literal end of a ray of hope.

And that brought to mind a trope that is indeed about that but has a misleading name in the opposite direction: Hope Spot. When you look at it you assume it's about just that: A spot of hope. And whatever that might be, it's probably, well, hopeful, right? It's probably about giving food to starving orphans or something. Well, nope! Hope Spot is about the destruction of hope, it's about the protagonists being given reason to hope and then immediately seeing that hope crushed before their eyes. Which the name doesn't indicate because it's just got the word "Hope" in there used as an adjective to the word "Spot".

It should be renamed to something like Momentary Hope, or Instantly Dashed Hopes, or Hope Into Despair, or anything else as long as it actually indicates it's about losing hope.

Sorry, but we can't have a TRS thread that relies solely on anecdotal evidence. A Wick Check or somesuch is needed. So declining.
