Shaman King anime reboot (2021)

Slight correction, the Zero chapters for Yoh, Ren, and Lyserg would be good to insert during their time training in the afterlife. The Zero chapter for Horohoro is just a longer version of his flashback chapter in the series proper, so that chapter would just be replaced with the longer Zero version.

Someone asked what Hao's backstory is, and that's covered in the Mappa Douji chapters. The first Mappa Douji chapter is a bonus chapter that's part of the main series, but the other two are in Shaman King Zero. Frankly, it's a bit too long for me to go into fully, so I'd recommend just reading those chapters.

The Shaman King manga might be getting a re-release in English. And right after I finished binging it, too, what rotten luck.

Hey at least you are getting the opportunity to legally own the manga.

Cause if you really love a series then it should be either on your bookshelf or downloaded to a private account to read even if your in a place with no internet.

I just realized something about Yoh's catchphrase: "No-one who can see ghosts is evil". (Spoilers for the manga and Zero content) It's not an accident that line excludes people who can't see ghosts. One of the big revelations near the end is that Yoh always secretly agreed with Hao, to some extent, that humans are awful. It's because Yoh is half of Hao, and while he didn't inherit Hao's memories, he inherited a bit of his outlook.

Zero reveals that Yoh used to fully agree with Hao, even saying that if he did become Shaman King he would probably kill all humans, until he met some nice spirits that partially changed his mind. By the start of the series, his perspective has been shifted from "all humans who can't see ghosts are evil" to "no-one who can see ghosts is evil". That exemption of humans who can't see ghosts in his catchphrase isn't an accidental oversight, it's deliberate.

Its also shown in the later series that Yoh believes that people have degraded to the point they're in because the Great Spirit has been ignoring their plights before and after Hao took over. He says something along the lines of 'a world where god ignores everyone's prayers is basically hell'.

Would feel more correct if we ever got a hint the Great Spirit even had a mind. Sure the Patch constantly go on about how it's In Mysterious Ways but they're almost zealots.

The Shaman King Comic-Con panel might have another teaser look at the anime.

Now that I've read the Remix Tracks and Zero, here's my revised idea for the seasons:

• Season 1: 36 episodes covering chapters 1-107, with a teaser of 108 as the cliffhanger.

• Season 2: 36 episodes covering chapters 108-207, with a teaser of 208 as the cliffhanger. Also includes some of the Remix Track mini-chapters.

• Season 3: 36 episodes covering chapters 208-300. Also includes some of the Remix Tracks and most of the Zero chapters. The Zero chapters covering Yoh, Ren, and Lyserg's backstories happen during their training in Hell. The Zero chapter covering Horohoro's backstory replaces the original manga chapter covering his backstory. The Zero chapters covering Hao's backstory happen after the Mappa Douji bonus chapter.

This piece of music is awesome. No wonder Takei refused to do a remake without it!

For the climax, I think it would have been cool if the characters created Armor Oversouls using their new Elemental Spirits, especially if they created Double/Triple Armor Oversouls using the Elemental Spirits combined with their other spirits. Like, I would have LOVED to see White Swan combined with Spirit of Earth, Mastema Dolkeem combined with Spirit of Fire, Jaguarman combined with Spirit of Wind, Bushin Fish Fin combined with Spirit of Thunder, and Nipopo Gauntlets combined with Spirit of Rain.

Im sad that we wont see the five lilies, they were one of the best part of the anime.

All 35 volumes of the manga will be available digitally in English on July 28th.

Wait! I thought Megumi Hayashibara was Yoh? She was Anna? Then who was Yoh?

Also didn't realize Amidamaru was Kamina. Guess my voice actor-fu is poor.

Yuuko Satou was Yoh in the first anime.

She was also Lust in Fullmetal Alchemist. And Dub Lois Lane.

Looks great, but really, I only have one thing to say... SPIRIT OF SWORD: BYAKKOU!!!!!!

One of my favorite power-ups in anime, it broke my heart to learn it was never adapted in the original series. Just the practicality and originality of it is beautiful, it's a short-range sword and shield with armor over the back, and just by flipping it over, it becomes a long-range scythe. I have been waiting for YEARS to see this.

Because anime tends to do that to mechanical or mechanical looking stuff.

Or not even just mechanical really, just a general shortcut to animating non-people stuff.

Interesting that they got Yōko Hikasa as Yoh. She sounds pretty good.

Also stoked to hear Minami Takayama back as Hao, even if that video only has one short line from her.

I wonder if this means Yoh will be voiced by a woman in the dub (especially since Sebastian Arcelus moved on to live-action TV), or if he'll have somebody soft-spoken like Bryce Papenbrook or Justin Briner voice him.
