Squad 3 - Buckling Down vs Buckshot Bill - Iona

"Same old, same old. Gaea 2.0, except less literal Nazis and more figurative ones."

Iona tossed her handbag onto the ground, whipping off her jacket and stuffing it inside. Boiling energy built up inside her as the hicks went on about their agenda, reliving the briefest sparks of the Gaea invasion and Ignis's lackeys burning down Adana. Anger came forth as flames, and with a wild swing of her arms, the entire club went up in a column of scarlet destruction...

Or that would've been the case a few years ago. The faces of Squad 3 at the mall over a year ago as she nearly burnt them to a crisp played back in her head and she clenched her hand, putting out the fire that had been building up in her palms. She looked up at Buckshot Bill, teeth clenched as she forced down the rage.

"You realize that we were the same ones fighting to prevent the City from being destroyed last year. Or 2 years ago, when a group of human supremacists called Gaea teamed up with literal Nazis to invade the city, once again fought off with the help of superhumans and humans alike?"

It was bubbling, boiling all over again, but she was in control. She was in control...A breath pushed it down, blowing out the gathering inferno. She glared at the man threatening them.

"I'm a human. A learned one, but a human nonetheless. And I've dealt with bastards like you several times before, and I'll keep on doing so. Because that's what a hero does. GIGAS!"

With a great rumble, the ground split open and a giant, muscular humanoid erupted forth from it, flying towards Buckshot Bill on a flying tackle, spurred on by Iona's outstretched arm towards him.

"Everyone! Don't let up!"

Cole - Squad 3

Well, this was unexpected. But it gives me one target instead of three!

Cole readied himself and got into a forward, fighting stance. They wanted to separate people up and actually fight, fine by him. Watching Iona throw a gigantic humanoid figure at this Bill guy, Cole followed this up by gathering energy in front of him, forming a tremendous orb of explosive force - the energy came from the gathered up laser fire he'd had around him.

"Kinda wonder if you guys even know what irony is." He then shot off the gathered force right at Bill shortly after Iona's attack.

"You know, racists like you guys are a type I can never feel too bad beating the shit out of." Cole started gathering power in one arm for one hell of a punch once he saw what might come of the attacks he and Iona had already unleashed.

Marcus / Labrys - Squad 1

"So what? You think taking us all on separate is gonna make you win this?" Marcus looked at Tuckshot Till, and immediately leaped from place to place in a headlong rush at the gunman, confident in his ability to take hits and also dole them out. With the fact this guy had a weapon on hand, Marcus was really missing his axe. He'd just gotten acclimated to really using that thing. Especially after...seeing that thing use it.

His scarred eye glowing an intense gold, Marcus went to close the distance...

Close this off sooner rather than later. These hicks need to be taught a lesson. Even if I am a monster, I'm a monster that's gonna stop shit like that... He remembered the eviscerated pixies and wounded patrons.

I'm the "monstrous hero" that's gonna make them stop... Marcus landed and then went in to throw a punch right at the high tech hick, throwing a lot of his strength behind it. One way or another.

He started to throw more punches at Till, veins starting to show more across Marcus' body.

Squad 2 - Marah

How, exactly, a poorly dressed moron got a hold of a forcefield device, Marah couldn't tell. All she knew was that one moment she was destroying the hicks' numerous armaments, and the next, a large chunk of her hair had been shorn off where it intersected the field.

Hair had no pain receptors, of course, and she could grow it back in short order, but it was nonetheless incredibly annoying.

On the plus side, the hillbillies had decided to divide and conquer themselves, in a show of arrogance that Marah almost found impressive, were it not actively suicidal. And the bit Marah was in was also where the Daeva was, so perhaps she'd get to see a bit of its Khvarenah firsthand.

Her hair began to spread once more, slowly covering up the forcefield that partitioned the 'Iridium Wonders' (she sincerely hoped that the robot was just fucking with Killshot, and their hero group wasn't actually called that) from the rest of the bar. Like an encroaching shadow swallowing the world.

"Save your non-existent breath, doll." Marah stepped forward as Holiday stepped back. "These fools are clearly too stupid to know when they're outmatched. There's a point where bravery ceases to be commendable."

Marah smiled, as shadowy, clawed hands began to extrude from the darkness. "So let us teach them fear."

The hands lashed out at Krill, intending to tear his weapon asunder before grabbing and binding him. She wouldn't kill him, of course - a good queen always showed mercy - but there was nothing wrong with shaking him around a bit to spook him.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

Cain—Squad 2

“And I’m THE fuck-mothering Cain!” growled Cain. “I joined the Saint Foundation to prevent more violence and bloodshed. And look what we have here. More fuckin’ violence and bloodshed!”

“Hear it from the man himself, murder is frowned upon in Heaven, you little shit. Now shoot me if you dare!” Cain threw his bone knife at the barrier in an effort to get the hick’s attention. If he was purposefully shot at, then victory was all but guaranteed.

Wilma—Squad 3

“The whole Saint Foundation is in here,” Wilma scoffed calmly. “You know, the people that pulled the city’s collective asses out of the fire when the Saviors attacked? Yes, that’s us. Why do you think the three of you will have more of a chance against us than a super-powered army did? Irony indeed!”

The random papers and flyers lying on the floor inside the barrier suddenly rose up into spikes and moved to stab at the hick’s person and his equipment, seeking to disable them.

“If you heard Martin’s warning earlier, now’s the time to heed it, before you die from being over killed by our powers. Turn about is fair play, right? ‘Kill them before they kill us?’” she mocked, crossing her arms as more papers shielded civilians and ushered them to safety.

Iris - Squad 2

Iris's discussion with the odd woman was abruptly ended when a trio of racist hicks rode in on flying laser shotguns. Why the hell weren't they allowed to gather without something like this happening?

As her conversation partner began to move, Iris herself dropped into a gate that she opened below her feet, popping out of a wall at the best vantage point she could find just as the barriers went up. Of course, clubs weren't exactly built with sniping in mind, so her "vantage point" was just on top of a booth.

Iris began to plant her eyes along the wall behind her... and was nailed in the forehead by a stray laser, leaving a neat round hole all the way through. There was no blood or brain matter, of course. Just a window into a hollow void. Iris crouched and clutched at her head.

"Ow! Ow ow ow! Damn that hurts! F***!!    D̦͖ͯͬi̤̝̖͉͔ͮ͆ͩ͆̎e̯̩̙̋ͪͮ!͂́̀̅̓̽!ͣ̑̊!   "

Despite the rather extreme sentiment, the freeze rays that shot from the eyes she'd mounted on the wall were clearly aimed for the floating guns and not Killshot himself.

Kates - Squad 1

Well, this was inconvenient. Kates was no stranger to battle, of course, but she'd yet to find a suitable wielder. A weapon without a master was rendered impotent.

How best to solve such a dilemma? Talk would likely just hold things up and confuse the matter. Action would have to suffice. Luckily, now that she could think, she could control her flames, meaning anyone who could handle a blade would suffice.

After just a moment of hesitation, Kates ran out into the middle of the fray and assumed her true form as a xiphos, lying on the floor.

"Wield me!"

Squad 2- Martin

His attempt to talk the men down seemed to end with failure, and with his evening wear riddled with scorch marks but that was about what he should have expected. For the moment there was nothing he could do except charge forward at his best. But that wasn't exactly a full option here. Most of his teammates from what he had read on file had a level of invulnerability to them, so he didn't expect the lasers would do much good. But he didn't know Marah and despite her hair acting as an effective weapon he didn't know how well it would act in defense. So he got closer to her, trying to not obstructed her vision while still acting as a fine barrier to her. "You seem to work better at disarming, I'll block any direct attacks for the moment."

The fact they had thrown up so many barriers was concerning, but it might also work in their favor. Every device had a limit, and even if they were carrying a personal protection unit on each of their persons the strain of such a large display meant that they were likely working over their limit. "Anyone who can't do range try to target the barrier walls, see if we can't drain the battery from whatever tech they are using!"

Squad 1 - Nariko

Nariko could have easily escaped before the barriers came up, but then she'd be leaving her friends to fight alone. Leaving Marcus to fight alone. And she couldn't do that.

Not because she didn't think they could handle these villains, but because she worried the rest of their team couldn't keep Marcus reigned in.

So she positioned herself near Marcus as the walls came up, and charged at the same time he did. She let Marcus go for the straight attack, and focused her own energies on disabling the floating weapons, kicking and punching them away with expert strikes.

Being metal, unarmed strikes didn't actually destroy them, meaning they were still able to fire. Perhaps her blades might have been more helpful, but Nariko hadn't brought them. Cursing her lack of foresight, Nariko made to retreat, to see if Saori could make a weapon for her.

Halfway through the motion, she saw a woman run in and turn into a sword. A weird power, but convenient. Nariko swooped in and scooped up the sword, spinning and twirling the blade in her hand experimentally. She'd have been more comfortable with a katana than a xiphos, but at the very least the blade was expertly balanced.

"Right. Let's rock!" Nariko said, and moved.

Power surged through her veins, as Nariko casually swung the blade and split a laser shot in twain, causing it to harmlessly strike the barrier behind her.

The next instant she was across the room, once more disarming the floating weapons, this time with intense cuts that could shear steal.

Holyshitthisswordisamazing! Nariko's thoughts raced, almost failing to keep up with her enhanced speed. Outwardly, she laughed, enthralled by the rush.

Mason - Squad 3

Everything happened in a flash...far more of a flash than what Mason was currently experiencing.

One second he was butchering the concept of dancing.

The next, rednecks with various bits of technology.

so, you know, average Tuesday.

The scrapping had already begun and Mason, in his stupor, refused to be left behind. Still feeling the burn from the liquid he spun and held up his multicolored dial.

“Alright, whose ruining our night out?” He shouted and snapped it into his Genesis Driver. He spun the dial once.

“FIRE!”

He pressed the dial down, where it sunk in and he spun it again.

“AIR!”

“Hen...SHIN!” And he flipped the switch as, in a flash of light, a green and red arcane circle surrounded him and slammed into his person. There, he was covered in silver, red and green armor, a pair of flaming green wings bursting out of his back.

“Masked Fighter Alpha Revelations, FIRESTORM mode!” Boomed a voice from the wrist brace in question as he took up to the air and aimed a single finger at Bill.

“Bang.” Snd with his finger gun, fired a decently sized fireball at him.

Saori - squad 1

Oh for gods sake, it was their first night! Couldn’t they have a night out first before shit went sideways?!

Well not that she was complaining, she was itching for this sort of thing after all. But everything happened so fast she barely had time to register everyone getting separated.

But at least she was with people she recognized so that was good. And her brother giving her the okay gave way to an excited smirk as her right eye exploded into blue, flickering energy that came off her like fire.

As her aunt made the dash to their own opponent, she quickly “drew” several shapes in the air with the flickering foxfire she could make. While she wasn’t as overtly skilled at it like her brother, she could do SOMETHING.

And that something was foxfire knives.

She grabbed the little foxfire lines in the air, three in each hand, where they sharpened like steel. Then, she jumped into the air where she had a better vantage point-

And hurled them with surprising precision.

‘Don’t mess this up. You have only one shot to make a good impression as a hero...don’t you blow it!’

Nianzhen - Cat's Cradle (Squad 2)

The barriers split the air and Nianzhen can only groan in response. Did they think dividing and conquering would actually help? Even outnumbered and, well, outgunned—forgive him for that joke—as they were? He admired their...tenacity, though upon that it would seem they had about as much common sense as the gutter trash they acted like.

"Yes, that. Lovely," he deadpanned, voice bleached and dry as a rag. On a normal day, he'd have wanted to make a better remark before going ahead with the usual thrashing, but after forgetting to pay attention to the leader's speech he was kind of running short on material here.

Not that he had to say much, with literally everyone around him rubbing it in and all.

While the android set off her smokescreen, a round well of psychic energy began to collect in Nianzhen's palm, who bounced it up and down dispassionately—Marah's advance gets preceded by him firing it off finger gun-style with an apathetic exclamation of "Bam." The volley of spheres would hone in precisely on Krill's shotguns; if it went well, the energy would jam up their barrels and explode, destroying any semblance of function the weapons had left to let loose on the others before they landed their own attacks.

Léo - Cat's Cradle (Squad 3)

Seeing the walls leave him with no other choice but to face the grand hillbilly shitbag himself, Leo hissed under his breath in annoyance. A rush of volatile gas came with the action, and with that, the air was soon filled with flames; they eventually merged to form into what looked like a burning 10-foot lash in his right hand.

"Look, I don't want to do this, but..." He trailed off and decidedly didn't continue, distracting himself to focus on timing with the other heroes' movements.

At the same moment the hulking figure erupted from the ground, the whip shot out and attempted to latch onto the shotgun (or Bill himself—though he tried to avoid aiming there, it couldn't really be helped if Leo overshot it in his mix of hesitation and simple nerves), which would hopefully prevent him from ducking out of the summoned man's way and mess up any shots he could take.

If that succeeded, he'd try to drag this Buckshot guy into more of a melee range for the rest of the onslaught, then set to examining the barriers to crack down on how they might be deactivated.

Holiday – Cat's Cradle (Squad 2)

“...Charming. First of all, never call me that again...” Holiday began whilst giving Marah a teasing flick to the temple—made considerably more impactful by the solidity of the reinforced metal within her finger. “Second of all, I know that feeling well. Thirdly...” she paused, flicking back into her focused mode a moment as she ordered Tom to get in closer. “...I have nothing, scaring him sounds deserved. But call me ‘doll’ again and I'll have to find a trash compactor, and it's this whole process...”

Huh. Thank you, newbie. I never knew I could be even slightly annoyed by name-calling, she thought—though both her internal musings and her actual tone of speech seemed more entertained than insulted. Doll is demeaning, but also accurate in a way... so that makes it worse. Exceptional.

“Oi. You. Psychic... guy,” she pointed a moment to Nianzhen, brain clicking audibly through several configurations before she gave up with a simulated sigh. “Guy with the face. Never caught your name, sorry. You'll have to give me a rundown of how useful you are later. As of now... good job.”

Hey, she could dedicate a moment or two to morale. Admittedly not really while there were actual lasers flying about, but better late on a compliment than never.

Mikoto – Cat's Cradle (Squad 1)

It was Saori's time to shine. He couldn't help but feel proud of her. Still, even though he didn't want to interfere, it didn't mean he couldn't do anything.

She'd launched herself up in the air to give her a better angle, and Mikoto immediately set up a decently thick defensive bubble around her that would dissipate as soon as she made a sign that she was about to attack again. Making one-sided barriers was next to impossible, so it was the best he could do. With the direction of his other hand, however, he let his foxfire burrow into a portion of ground and split it apart—lifting up a section of the floor coated in a telling translucent blue aura. Electing to hold his next attack for the time being, he split the rock into considerably smaller and more numerous sections so as to pelt their opponent when the time came.

Once again, seeing her fight reminded him how much hard work she put in. And how this still didn't feel like next to any effort to him. Needless to say, it was unnerving. Holding back for her sake. He'd do it forever, if he had to, but...

His gaze lowered.

It still didn't feel right.

Vivian

Ok, so everyone is shouting our resume at the bad guys during the firefight. Good to see those old training instincts are kicking in today. Viv paused in reloading her sling. It didn't seem practical to keep whizzing bullets at the bad guys who were surrounded by her teammates.

Viv took a look around. Behind them was mostly a solid wall, but a reasonably-sized window was placed near the ceiling. She took in the remaining party-goers. Ok. Let's see...about ten people. That's six feet up..... The young woman darted forward and leaped, drawing back her fist and punching through the reinforced glass with one blow. She grabbed the edge of the windowsill for a moment before dropping down. When she landed, Viv took another look at the room to ensure the bad guys were busy, then began hustling terrified people out one at a time through the opening by boosting them up with both hands. Hey, free workout. As she worked, Vivian made a mental note to check out Redtech. Forcefields and floating guns seemed like a very niche item to sell.

Sometimes, things just happened too fast. But when chaos comes, the best one can do is to just react.

"Espejo!" He said, making several mirrors floating around and to stop them from having a good shot to the people.

"You know" He said, with a growl "I keep meeting people like you, some angry losers that keep lashing out, attacking others to prove how superior they are, but at the end, you are just some pathetic losers that should just be forgotten like the trash they are"

Focusing, he aimed to the inside of the forcefield and aimed to make a hammer to hit the shooter in the jaw.

"Who are the people?" He asked "In here, you are the only monsters"

Squad 1

Despite being faced with such a tremendous amount of firepower, lasers flying everywhere they could see, the heroes pushed forward and gave it everything they got. Nariko was slicing up the pistols and shotguns with wild abandon and dodging their shots with minimal effort. If she kept this up, she'd slice the rest to pieces in no time flat.

The others pounded Till's forcefield, smashing and shooting it with every tool at their disposal. It quivered and shaked, momentarily dissipating for brief moments before putting itself back up. "Dagnabit!" Till was fiddling with his forcefield, desperately trying to increase the power, but so far, nothing had worked.

But he still had one last trick up his sleeve.

"Eat this, ya varmints!" Suddenly the forcefield condensed into one massive circle, letting loose a tremendous blast of energy that could plow through solid steel with ease. And Marcus was right in the center. He took the blast point-blank. If it were anyone else, he'd be vaporized. But as it was, it blasted him back into the bar and left one hell of a bruise. Saori and Sam also got grazed by a couple stray bullets, but it was nothing a first aid kit wouldn't cure.

However, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. As destructive as the blast was, it also drained a considerable amount of power. Almost more than the wristwatch could take.

And certainly not enough to generate a forcefield.

"C'mon, you damned bucket of bolts!" He slapped his wristwatch, trying to get it functioning again, but to no avail. For all intents and purposes, he was wide open.

Squad 2

Killshot managed to bolster his forcefield just in time, shielding him from harm even as every single one of his guns was frozen or shattered.

However, despite being outgunned, outmanned, and threatened by a giant dragon man, he wasn't too fazed.

"Don't think so, pardner. Cause I got somethin' you don't." He pulled out a small device from his pocket, holding it up for everyone to see. "Now, see, this here's a 100 megaton detonator. All wrapped up in one little package. So, if ya all don't back off, then I'll just set this little baby off right here an' now. Ya' get me?"

Squad 3

"What the hell are you JEEZUS—!!" Before he could say another word, Iona's earthly monstrosity sprung out of the ground and tackled Bill to the floor. Subdued and helpless ("GET THE HELL OFFA' ME!"), Gita was able to aim their beam and break through his forcefield with ease. Rendering him defenceless.

Unfortunately, Iona's golem was still in the way. As such, it took the brunt of the assault. An assault so devasting that it promptly reduced the mighty titan to rubble.

But there was enough of it demolished for Leo's whip to tear through. It latched onto Bill's shotgun and pulled it forward, flinging Bill back through the blasted entryway and onto the pavement. The shotgun let out one last blast as it hit the ground, shooting Leo in the foot. Not that Bill cared. He groaned in pain, but he managed to stumble to his feet despite it all. "Fucking shit! He was right! He was fuckin' right!" He pressed another button on his watch. Suddenly the guns all turned on the heroes, unleashing one targeted volley with everything they had. "Suck it!" He turned tail and fled, hoping he could at least buy himself some cover.

Assuming his ass wasn't grass.

Marcus - Squad 1

Outright taking the shot with no complaint whatsoever, it left one hell of a bruise that was slowly seeming to pulsate. Odd veins starting to come off of the impact site, almost black in color. He didn't care how much he hurt - because as of now, the damned bastard responsible for all this destruction was unguarded.

Marcus stepped forward slowly as the forcefield keeping him away from the hick was taken down. He looked right through Till almost a thousand miles, cracking his neck once followed by slamming his fist into his open palm. He quickly moved toward Till, every step seeming to leave an imprint on the ground...and then he just as quickly accelerated and went to outright take Till by the throat.

It would be so easy to just smash his head to pieces.

But the easy path...is rarely if ever the right one.

Cole - Squad 3

That cowardly racist fuck.

Cole immediately extended his psychic shields to cover his team - it sucked that Iona's golem thing took all the punishment, but now it was a straight forward chase. Cole darted between shots, leaping and evading over fire from the guns and redirecting the few shots he couldn't get through right back into the barrels the gunfire emerged from.

Taking off after Bill, Cole tried to reach out with his telekinetic power and throw a rippling blast right at the redneck's leg, aiming to twist the leg around and make his escape less easy.

"You're not gettin' away that easy!"

Holiday – Cat's Cradle (Squad 2)

“Hey, idiot. Guess what I've got?”

With a prompt and apparently confident stride out of cover, Holiday retracted her torso casing and plunged her hand directly into her body; grasping a particular grey sphere and pulling it out of herself in clear view of Krill. Danger warnings were plastered all over it, and it was still connected by a mass of wiring—seeming to emanate an ominous low humming noise that implied it was on the cusp of bursting.

“Conculium. Dad made it in a toaster accident, don't even ask. Experimental energy. Too dangerous for common use,” she explained in short, before glaring at Krill and tightening her grip on the thing. The casing buckled slightly. “Any exposure to oxygen, and it'll explode. Vaporising me, everyone here, and the surrounding block or so. Stupid thing to put in a tin can, I know. And to give you an idea...”

She promptly struck herself in the side of the head. So quickly that it appeared her hand hadn't even moved. It sent a cutting breeze in her nearby area, such was the speed and force. Yet all she had to show for it was a dent in the side of her temple. The skin paneling had ruptured, but the base structure had held.

She was tough.

“How's that for an ultimatum, huh? Real Mexican standoff we have here.”

Yet there was a light. Behind Krill. A warning light. A dim light, but noticeable to those paying attention. At least, on the same side that Holiday was. Flicking on and off repeatedly. A signal. Her drone was hovering nearby, having been ordered to flank. Her robotic form didn't show it in the slightest, but she was sending messages.

Get him while I've got his attention.

Catch him off guard.

Flank him.

As much as she could simulate this kind of horrific ultimatum, Holiday would never dare follow through.

Plus if all else failed, Adam had a taser. But that wasn't her plan. She was trusting in them. She wouldn't fall back on only her own understanding anymore.

It was dangerous, and she'd learnt that since last time. She loved them. And for that to be the case, she had to let herself take the backseat once in a while.

IW - Holiday Night

Wow! Holiday was growing up before her eyes. Metaphorical eyes. And 100 megatons beat the Tsar Bomba. Maybe this wasn't so embarrassing. If he really was casually carrying around something that could destroy the Super City metropolitan area, Holiday would have a great story after this.
Iris?    Mahvash sent to the lady.    Mind dropping the device into a portal when I find it?    She appeared in her usual manner a tad below where Disposable Gunman #2 had stood, in a very unusual position laying on the beer stained nightclub floor. Or rather in it an precisely and quietly undone shape of floor. And snaking tentacles in multiple directions. One quietly ate through the forcefield when Adam approached, others scouting for the device, and still others squiggling under the floor to the others. A, B, and C.
Twas unusual—she could have done it from underground while scouting—but she was not going to let the others think she left them there alone. If Holiday's gambit didn't work what was he going to do? Kill himself right then? Even if he did, she could retrieve her IW and Vivian. Maybe Thomas and Selby. Or die but then she didn't have to plan for after that.

Squad 2-Martin

The moment the detonator came out Martin went cold, and his eyes tracked to the man with a small sense of sadness. "Is this seriously what you want?" his voice came out smaller then he might have meant it to, taking a step forward toward the man with his arms at his side. There wasn't a hint that he was intending to fight and he stopped the moment it seemed like Killshot started getting antsy. "If you press that you'll die. I don't care who sold you that forcefield, that much power is going to make most of this city a crater. Think about the innocent people out there, they aren't asking for this fight. If you don't care about them then think about the others you came here with. Think about yourself man."

Martin swallowed, knowing that his words probably meant nothing, but needing to say them. Maybe his older self would have had a better idea what to do in this moment, but all he had was instincts. "You can't want to die, I don't know what brought you all the way here but there has to be something you want more then to murder countless innocent people and die yourself. A friend, a new show on t.v., one of those funny cat videos. This isn't worth it, just put the bomb down and stop, please."

Saori - Squad 1

"Ow! Son of a bit-Ow!"

For all intents and purposes, being shot like that should have gathered a bit more of a reaction than that of "Annoyed because of a stubbed toe", but there she was. She landed back in her position in front of Mikoto's shield and looked at the now bleeding wound on her arm and hissed a bit, applying pressure to it and closing one eye in pain, her teeth grit and showing off her sharp canines, like that of a fox.

"Gonna need to dig that one out later...not gonna be fun." She bitterly grunted and quickly formed a loop of Foxfire, wrapping it around the wound and tying it like it was a wrap. Tying it with her teeth, she shot Mikoto a look - and then nodded in thanks. It was hard to ignore the constant flickering of his shield every time she went to throw a knife, and she had too admit, he'd gotten the timing down perfectly.

She would admit it, but she was proud. But he probably knew that.

Looking up, she saw their personal redneck in the hands of that...Marky guy, and he didn't look too happy.

"Should we stop him?" She asked, turning to the others. "He looks about ready to pop his head like a grape and me and Mikoto know that's a slippery step he doesn't wanna go down."

Mason - Squad 3

"Yeah! Come on folks, whoever catches the hillbilly gets drinks on the house!" Mason's laugh echoed out as he pulled the dial out, and quickly clicked it again.

"EARTH!"

And he snapped it into position and flipped the switch, as the red portions of his suit turned earth brown, but the wings remained, but more bird like and feathered.

"Alpha Revelations, Sandstorm Mode!" he took to the air quickly after Cole, close behind him and flew into the air to get a better vantage point.

"Now let's see, my grip on the ground ain't that good from up here but-" He pointed to the ground where Bill was running and quickly began to uproot the concrete and the earth in an attempt to trip him up, if not create a slab of street big enough for him to ram his face into and lose what little teeth he had left.

Mikoto – Cat's Cradle (Squad 1)

“I'll help heal it for you too,” Mikoto muttered back to Saori, not wanting to hurt her pride by saying it out loud. He cursed himself for letting a shot get past his shield, but he reluctantly acknowledged that it was a simple mistake. Nothing much he could've done. His defense wasn't perfect, despite his efforts. He doubted it'd ever be.

Still, he briefly let a restrained amount of his foxfire wash over her, in an attempt to speed up the healing of her more minor injuries and rejuvenate her somewhat. The actual shrapnel he avoided for now, since he could screw it up if it wasn't carefully removed. Mom had yet to teach him properly in that regard. Then again, she had literal centuries of experience...

“...Maybe we should, yeah...” he muttered awkwardly at her observation, turning his gaze towards Marcus and their opponent and outstretching two fingers towards them. The sheen of a new barrier flickered to life around Till, and he attempted to tug him away from the enraged Marcus' path somewhat using the shield—though not without keeping in mind a potential attack of his own.

It was a relatively fragile barrier, since it was designed to move instead of remain stalwart. With a burst of spiritual lightning Mikoto's right arm was engulfed in bluish flame, preparing a possible counter for the guy's next move—his stance neutral and preparatory more than anything else.

He honestly thinks he can do this and get away with it, he mused, eyes narrowing as he stared at the shooter. With all of us here... do they even have any idea...?

Maybe they did.

The sudden thought unnerved him.

...What if they wanted this?

Squad 1

Sam generally knew when a chance came, and in this case, he knew he had to take the chance.

Chains formed to wrap around his legs, and simply looked at Marcus. He had half a mind to remove him from the gene pool, but resisted the impulse, even if he was probably bleeding.

Guess scars are beginning to show He muttered to himself, walking in to place a hand on Marcus, to try and calm him down but a glare that could freeze hell remained in his face.

"He ain't worth it" He said, simply "Besides, we could do with some answers right now"

Squad 2

"Man, talk about cutting off your nose to spite your face" Ryuu muttered. At this point, he just didn't have it in himself to be scared for his own life, but he knew they better be careful. He still had a couple millions to keep in mind (thousands? These incidents make any census really difficult)

He looked at Holiday and Mahvash, and couldn't say much about Martin's speech.

Maybe He started to suck the air a bit, let's see if making him a bit lightheaded helps on this one.

Wake me up at your own risk.

Squad 1 - Nariko

Dodging the energy discharge, which was presumably the villain's last-ditch attack, was pitifully easy. Nariko would need to thank the sword-woman; this power was almost unreal.

As the villain fiddled with his watch, Nariko managed to slice apart the last of the guns in her Squad's section of the bar. But before she could celebrate, Marcus charged the now defenseless villain.

She was torn. On the one hand, she wanted to trust him. On the other, she didn't want him to lose himself. The latter worry won out, and she intercepted Marcus, grasping the sword with her tail to free up her arms, which she wrapped around him in a hug as she pushed against him. She wasn't strong enough to stop him, but hopefully he'd feel her and stop.

"It's okay, Marcus. We won." She said, pressing her face into his chest. "Don't lose yourself."

Squad 2 - Marah

Marah's hair came in a second too late to stop the robot's finger flick, and she grunted in annoyance. She was half tempted to erase the offending digit, but she bit back the urge along with any attempt at a comeback. She could banter later.

For now, the redneck pulled out a suicide weapon, and Marah's shadowy hands paused, before pulling back, raised up as if in surrender. Marah herself stepped back, letting the others take initiative.

Part of her wanted to call an obvious bluff, but on the other hand, these men had charged a room full of superhumans without blinking. So they were definitely stupid enough to blow themselves up.

Martin's speech was surprisingly heartfelt, if naive. Idealistic fool. She thought to herself, trying to ignore the faint rebuttal from somewhere in her mind that at least he had ideals. He also contrasted well with Holiday's response of threatening counter-suicide.

"'Toaster accident' is an interesting way of referring to one's own birth." Marah muttered, quietly. A petty response to the robot's earlier assault.

Shaking her head, she focused instead on the tendrils she could feel under where her hair lay on the floor. So that's where the Daeva got to. Marah repressed a smile, I wonder if she intends to simply erase him outright.

Unlikely. The creature was good at at least pretending to be a hero. Whatever it was scheming, at the moment they were at least nominal allies. That in mind, Marah allowed her hair to grow down into the floor, where it wrapped itself around the Daeva's exuded aura. Not to constrict, but to be pulled; Marah was allowing the Daeva to guide her hair-aura to aid whatever plan it had concocted.

The Daeva was undoubtedly more skilled at aura manipulation, after all. And Marah generally needed line-of-sight to effectively use her hair. But Mahvash would find that Marah held the edge in raw, overwhelming power. Not that it would help - an explosion was close enough to fire to burn Marah's hair away - but the self-proclaimed Queen could never pass up an opportunity to show off.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

Marcus - Squad 1

Marcus for a moment didn't even seem to hear them even as Nariko tried to hug him, Sam's chains straining on the young man as his hand seemed to waver, half seeming to trend toward pulling away, half seeming to want to tighten - but stopping himself before he could do any further damage to the villain. His eye was glowing particularly intensely - veins standing out across his body. The young hero's burn mark from the laser shot faded already.

Labrys was adrift in a sea of memories. Marcus remembered wrapping his hands around the Greek girl's throat as Marcus watched in horror at his actions from across the desolate township, looking directly at Marcus—-

Marcus suddenly let out a roar as he collapsed to his knees, letting go of the redneck's throat suddenly, gripping one of Sam's chains and shattering it suddenly as he gripped his head...followed by giving himself a harsh punch upside the head that seemed to jar himself awake.

"Yeah...yeah, you're right about him...not being worth it. We need—-we need answers. Sorry about that." Marcus shook his head, breathing. He took a moment to wipe his hand across his temples, and visibly shook in place.

Vivian-Squad 3

She was watching the ensuing battle with interest. So those are...Zach & Yoko's kids? Man, magic is weird. I wish I'd gotten to know the family a bit better before they left. Iona certainly seems to have a better handle on her magic, too. Good to know.

Glancing around, she saw that Mahvash had vanished and heard Martin's speech. Yeah, he's the same. It will be interesting to see how different this Martin is from last year. I wonder if Mahvash has any videos to compare when the end of the year comes. And who's the hairy lady? I hate it when I don't have intel on someone. Also, check on Iris. Getting shot like that has to have an effect on you no matter what.

Turning, Vivian studied Marcus and his GF, watched the concerted effort to pull him back. Geez, Laurie's going to have her work cut out there. Should he be in the field if he's going to lose control like that in a fight? Maybe I should have a word with Mahvash. And it's great that Noriko can get him under control, but that seems like a pretty narrow reed to carry our hopes if he snaps. I'll see if Mason has some ideas on a deterrent or containment for him. Ok, for all of us. Yes, I know that's a cliche rife for abuse, but it's still a good idea.

Squad 3 - Iona

Iona flinched as the barrage of lasers streaked towards them, only for Cole's psychic shield to save her from what could very well have been a near death situation. Gigas was destroyed, a pang of pain twisting into a knot in her stomach. He wasn't really dead, but still. That had been...less than coordinated.

"Gigas..."

No, there was no time for that now. Buckshot Bill was making a run for it, and Cole and Mason were giving chase. Cole's telekinetic power was only slightly less noticeable than the shifting of energy in the ground as Mason's suit harnessed the earth to rise out of the ground ever so slightly. Iona ducked down, placing one hand on the ground and closing her eyes. Her will snaked along through the ground to just in front of Mason's bump in the path, dark green vines poking out of the floor ready to tie up Buckshot Bill should he trip, or hold onto his leg as he passes by.
