I didn't see a thread for Lore Olympus so I thought I might make one.

So I guess I can start, I just finished reading the whole series so far recently, and overall I really like it. The only thing I kinda don't like is the whole Hera/Hades thing where Hades had feelings for Hera and she uses him to get back at Zeus, it just feels like a way to add more angst to Hades's back story and doesn't really add much, but that's just my opinion.

I'm somewhat surprised that this series wasn't given a thread sooner considering it's popular enough to be getting an animated adaptation from Jim Henson Studios.

Yeah I was surprised too? Maybe it's just not as popular among the kind of people who tend to use T Vtropes the most?

New episode will be officially released tomorrow. I've been trying my hardest not to use the fast pass, but some of what happens next has been spoiled for me (unless I've been misled).

So we learned that Demeter used to cover for Zeus and he burned down her garden(?) as retribution for finally putting her foot down with him. We also get too see even more of a connection between Zeus and Apollo (Zeus pushed around Demeter till she put her foot down, Apollo is pushing around Persephone), which has been built up since Apollo has been introduced. Perhaps the flashback is foreshadowing that, like Zeus, Apollo is going to last out at Persephone.

I love the art in this, though I wonder how it's going to translate to animation.

They'll def have to simplify it a little, but honestly it actually won't be as hard as it might seem initially. The characters can usually all be boiled down to simple shapes that are pretty standard for animation. It's mostly the watercolor, well, coloring that might be tricky to translate over. We have no idea what the budget they'll have will be, that will be a huge factor for the final look of the show.

I've been thinking more about who they might get to voice the characters. I really like the idea of Wendie Malick playing Hera, but since she's currently playing Eda on The Owl House and I think a couple of other roles right now, she might be all booked up. I also imagine Ares with like an angry cockney British punk sorta voice for some reason but maybe that's just me.

So Persephone is going to reveal that she stole Apollo's lyre and has been cutting it's strings

The reveal honestly felt a little....idk odd to me? Like I guess it's supposed to drive home how in denial Apollo is that Persephone doesn't like him, and then be the catalyst to reveal that he doesn't care if she likes him anyway. I'm wondering why Eros appeared, did he sense that he was there? How long was he watching them?

It's not just that he's in denial, but that he feels entitled to having her, if she likes it or not. Note how he explicitly compares them to Zeus and Hera, which is also a Call-Back to how Apollo has been described as being ''very similar'' to Zeus in the worst possible way.

I mean yeah that's all true, but I think his initial denial was a part of that entitlement. He couldn't understand why Persephone doesn't like him, and in fact seems not to understand how it's even possible for someone to dislike him unless they have been mislead or have some kind of agenda against him. That's generally how being entitled works for most people.

I do enjoy seeing the comparisons between Zeus and Apollo the series is building up, I kinda get the strong sense that Hera is, consciously or no, trying to prevent Persephone from making the same sort of mistakes she did. Fortunately, Persephone isn't taking any of Apollo's shit. Honestly, I kinda wonder how Zeus managed to convince Hera that marriage was a good idea. Did he just act charming enough to get her to give him a chance? Or did he force her (considering that 'stealing' one's bride has been brought up at least twice at this point)? All we really know so far is that Hades apparently didn't pursue Hera because she was 'Zeus's girl', was Zeus actually dating Hera or did he just tell Hades to back off, leaving Hera with fewer options?

[up] Judging by how Zeus basically had Hades Reassigned to Antarctica just for getting along with Hera, it seems pretty likely that Hera didn't have much of a choice. Zeus is the head honcho of the Olympians, so what he says goes. Though Lore Olympus does allow Hera to actually lash out against Zeus - the reason why she kept going after Zeus' "lovers" and extramarital children was because she was too damn terrified of Zeus.

I suspect she also goes after Zeus's lovers/illegitimate children as a weird way of saving face. She doesn't actually seem to care as much about the cheating as she does about the fact that other people mock her for his affairs. By persecuting nymphs, mortals, and demigods, she reasserts her authority as queen of Olympus. Going after Zeus could potentially destroy her own reputation, and on some level she seems to care about her status as a queen. I wonder if she stays less out of fear of Zeus getting violent or something (considering that she didn't seem scared at all the one time we've really seen him loose his temper during a fight and the one time she did get hurt by accident he did seem concerned about her), and more out of fear of loosing her coveted position as a queen and the honor that comes with it.

I can't remember, does this version of Hera go after Zeus's mistresses and illegitimate children like her original mythological counterpart?

[up] Actually you're right I don't think we've seen her do anything yet. Doesn't mean she hasn't of course, she may have and I'm either forgetting or it hasn't been shown yet. It has been shown that at one point Zeus blames Aphrodite and Eros for his affairs and she angrily confronting them, forcing them to never use their powers on other gods again. Ares also confirms that she's the angriest goddess out there, so who knows.

I'm not sure how I feel about Ares and Persephone apparently having had a make out sesh a long while ago. Like, we all kinda know how this is going to end, I feel like giving her more suitors won't really change much. IDK, maybe it'll help give us some more background on her character.

Im a month late, but I just binged through this and is it just my imagination or was the reveal of how she lost her name "Kore"...kind of abrupt. I know from Eros flashback gods being overwhelmed by their emotions and just going 0-100000 on humans is normal but it also just kind of felt odd to me

No the hints themselves were perfectly fine honestly and I was super curious on the secret but, I dunno, the reveal itself felt a bit underwhelming to me. I'm not even sure what i expected outside of her getting enraged and racking up a body count. Maybe I just didn't expect it all to just be laid out just like that
