Unfamiliar Ceiling, is more you pass out and wake up in a strange place to find out you were receiving medical care by a stranger or something like that.
Unexpected but not unwelcome.
Commonly happens when the protag loses mid game/mid movie and have the story flipped on them.
You Wake Up in a Room is the simple and horror version of an Ontological Mystery, you have no idea where you are let alone when or why you got there. Occasionally you dont even know who you are. Many times you are locked in or walking out into the unknown.
A common Horror Movie/game premise. But I am not sure that it needs to be a different trope than Ontological Mystery.

Gah, I meant Waking Up Elsewhere, not You Wake Up in a Room. Edited initial post.
Title corrected.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportOh, then uhh... Yes I would agree that they are essentially the same trope and should be merged.
Difference between Unfamiliar Ceiling and Waking Up Elsewhere? The former says it’s a sub trope of the latter, but I’m not clear on what the distinguishing features are supposed to be.
