Cole - Squad 3 (57)

Not even gonna fuck around with this. We got better things to be doing.

The air thrummed as Cole's power fired up again, as soon as he so much as felt that sensation over his foot. Biting his lip he decided to go ahead and fire off sooner rather than later. In a rush, he psychically struck and went to pin the tentacle he felt on his foot to the ceiling hard, coming just short of smashing it flat.

Cole then put a hand up and formed a glowing bright ball of energy in front of him, grimacing.

We've had our time to sneak around - now was the time to kick some ass and do it fast. He started charging up energy on one arm. This was important - so they didn't have time to fuck around with some random ass trash demon.

Gloria, Squad 1 – Outside Base (with Nariko)

The room filled with a heavenly glow as a winged silhouette suddenly entered the room. It was like staring into the blazing sun – but mercifully, the light eventually dissipated. The form revealed to Nariko was that of a beautiful woman with some distinct features that marked her as inhuman. For one, she was huge – about 8 feet tallif one were to eyeball her. She also had feathered wings and a glowing halo. Even one totally ignorant of religion and myth would have to conclude she was an angel.

Gloria wasn’t sure of a lot of things at the moment. She didn’t know who Nariko or the various other people in the team she had joined were. She wasn’t entirely certain if her venture into superheroics was an entirely good idea. She wasn’t even sure what the current fighting was over, exactly. But she was certain of one thing thing – someone was injured, and they needed her help.

“Fear not,” she stated to Nariko with a voice that sounded strangely ethereal but reassuring at the same time. “I have come to tend to the wounded.”

Gloria put her hands on Sachiko, which began glowing and filling her with divine energy that slowly healed some of her injuries.

“She will need more assistance than I’m capable of providing before she can truly be well again, but I pledge to keep her safe until the medics arrive.”

Zach - Squad 1

Ow. Ow. Ow. Hot. Hot. Hot.

The chant of pain echoed in his head to the point of him almost missing Sam's commands and looked up through his wincing eyes, looking around for a moment. He didn't see Nariko and her mom anywhere and everyone else was ready in a position, so he looked down at his bubbling ink-

-Oh, it was bubbling, that wasn't a very good sign.-

-and with a soundless shout of pain, released the fiery villain in a massive plume of smoke and pulled his hands back to their regular sizes, still black and bubbling. It felt less like the skin was scalding and more like his blood got super heater, coursing up through his hands and up his arms for a moment.

Well, FUCK, that hurt.

Mason - Squad 3

"What, what's going on? Cole looks ready to fight! Are we gonna fight!? Do I get to fight?!" The Dark clad Mason chirped excitedly, voice a barely contained whispered.

"I have ultimately rescinded making decisions due to your incredibly brash decision makings and the makings of a forming concussion in my head. I'm so pleased to see you're not as bogged down as such." The Light Mason snarked and turned to Cole and Rebecca. "The decision is yours. Shall we give it our all?"

Is it selfish that I'm happy as we pass the setting sun?

Lily – Nazi Base (Squad 1)

Well, Zach had done the unthinkable and managed to burn himself. Somehow. Concentrating on taking the opportunity as Sam had suggested she do (she really didn't want to let him down), she briefly formed a mist of condensation in Zach's general direction in hopes it'd somewhat lessen his pain. Though she might've shoved it over there a bit too hard. For all she knew, she could've just instead made a very soggy and very miserable pile of ink instead.

Nonetheless, she rushed forward, using her Divine Form in conjunction with her Riptide technique to skate and weave towards Burner in an attempt to catch him off-guard with her ethereal and biologically impossible movements. To further confuse him, she ‘fractured’ the air around her just as she leapt up—shifting the position of the water molecules in the air to bend the light in her direction into a bizarrely splintered state. And as a final precaution, she fell back on classic misdirection for her actual, aerial strike: initially feinting a palm strike only to retract her arm out of the way at the last minute into her own torso and instead perform a sweeping kick aimed at the villain's ribs.

It was difficult to tell whether Lily was absolutely paranoid or just had exceptional foresight.

Iris - Squad 2

"Can do." Iris replied to Holiday and sharpened her focus as she moved into the building. Considering the amount of booby traps up to this point, it was probably wise to expect even more up ahead.

With her vision telescoping in focus and unhindered by darkness, it was likely she'd notice any triggers or tripwires on the path ahead before they got there.

Rebecca - Squad 3

And then there were two. Two Masons, that was. It was a stupid decision, but Cole berated them enough for it that Becca felt no need to interject.

And then they were in a dark room where something was moving and they were asking her what to do. She pointed to the Mason with the book who talked like he had consumed a dictionary.

"You're the light one, right? Light this place up so we can see what we're fighting!"

Nazi Base

"GET THE HELL OFFA' ME! FUCKING SON OF A BITCH! YOU'RE ALL GONNA BURN, YA HEAR ME?! ALL OF YA!" Burner ranted and raved at the top of his lungs as Zach smothered his flames, doing his best to burn everything around him to ash as he attempted to break free. At last, Zach finally let go, only for Burner to be met with a swift kick to the ribcage. Normally such an act would result in whoever performed the kick lunging straight through and suffering a horrible fiery death, but thanks to Lily's watery state, she was able to go all out, knocking the wind out of Burner and severely dampening the intensity of his flames.

"SHIT!" He held his side, his flames flickering on and off as he started to vaguely resemble a more human shape, the sheer amount of smothering together with Lily's well placed watery blow taking its' toll. But he wasn't out of the game just yet. He flew toward the exit but stopped for a brief moment as if to gloat. "Okay, you wanna get nuts? LET'S GET NUTS!" He held up his arms is if getting ready for one last-ditch blast, but threw them down at the last second. "3RLF! GESTAPO BOT GO-GO, BABY!"

As if on cue, the humongous robot that had been sitting in the corner of the base for the last few years sprung to life, it's eyes slowly lighting up and its' gears gradually beginning to whir as it rose to attention. It was designed like an archetypical Gestapo officer, painted black and wearing a Nazi cap and gasmask. It carried a large rifle on its' back and a pistol at its' side, with its' compartments no doubt containing various other weaponry.

"HIMMEL! INTRUDERS SPOTTED! SCHNELL, SCHNELL!" It spoke in a ridiculously thick German accent as it pulled out its' rifle, unleashing heavy blasts of laser fire throughout the complex in quick succession. All while singing the praises of its' Fuhrer. "WHEN THE FUHRER SAYS WE ARE THE MASTER RACE, WE HEIL! HEIL! RIGHT IN THE FUHRER'S FACE! HEIL! HEIL! RIGHT IN THE FUHRER'S FACE! SPRINGTIIIIME FOR HITLEEEEER AND GEEEEERMANY!"

Squad 2

Curiously, there didn't seem to be any more traps or tripwires lying in wait for the group. At least not as far as Iris could see. What she could see was Orthus, right at the end of the hall. He was lying face down in the lobby, his body splayed out on the floor like a discarded doll. And yet there was something off. He was wearing a metal collar, it's design a bit too hi-tech for what was essentially a doggy id-card. And as far as anyone who knew him was aware, he had never worn a collar in his life. So why was he wearing one now?

Still, that could wait. For now, all they knew for sure was that their friend and Perry's father was theirs for the taking. All they had to do was grab him and get out, and they would be home free.

God forbid it was that easy.

Squad 2-Paragon

Martin had learned a lot over his years at both the academy and university, how to fight smarter, how to prepare to deal with dangerous situations. But at his heart very little had changed, when you put someone in pain before him there was very little that he could do without betraying his most basic self. "Cover me," Martin braced himself for a moment and rushed forward into the hallway. He was going to be attacked, he would be put on the back foot by rushing in. But that didn't matter, a hero had to react to the threat when the pieces were down.

Time to put himself to the test.

Squad 3-Vivian-The Temple!

Well, this is another fine mess you've gotten us into, Cole Vivian snarked. She didn't know exactly what he was getting ready to fight, but clearly his tactical plans had split alongside Mason's body.

She jumped slightly off to the side so that they weren't all clumped together. Becca's idea to light up the area before fighting seemed sound. Once the situation was made clear, she decided to keep moving and either attack whatever it was from another side or perhaps find another way out. They weren't there looking for a battle, after all.

Sam slid next to Zach, to check his condition, using an ice made gas mask for the moment. The issue of not knowing what that ink was made of.

"Need some cooling?" He asked, honestly, before sending a veritable barrage of snowballs, that looked more like he was stoning the retreating Burner given the speed they were shot at.

"You suck!" He jeered, like it was a bad comedy act.

But a giant robot coming their way stopped that dead on its tracks.

Instinctively making a barrier to keep himself from being turned into dust, but it wasn't enough and could barely get out of the way.

Making sure things are safe, he sent a pterodactyl to crash against the laser, if nothing else, throwing off the aiming could help them survive.

"Careful" He said "Machines like these tend to carry a lot of things that blow up. If someone can shut it up, it'd be awesome"

I hope the other team is on alert He thought They might have an incoming flaming douche

Ryuu looked around, as tense as a bowstring. This situation was dangerous, and pretty much everything screamed "TRAP".

"What do you think of that collar?" He asked to Mahvash and Holiday. If nothing else, they seemed like the ones that'd be able to tell what the trick is now.

Aaand there goes Martin

Squad 1 - Outside Forest Base - Nariko

Nariko had set her mother down gently on the grass, though she kept her tail entwined with Sachiko's. She reached two fingers to her mother's neck, taking a quick pulse. Nariko was no medical expert, but she could tell it was too faint.

She contemplated just running her mother to the nearest hospital herself - it would probably be faster than an ambulance, at least - when a woman approached her. A statuesque, beautiful woman. A radiant woman with wings and a halo. Nariko was stunned, mouth opening and closing silently. She faintly remembered something about a new teammate, but in the chaos of the day she hadn't recalled any details.

"Ah, thank you." Nariko replied. A treacherous part of her mind suggested that, given Lily was rather clearly attracted to Sam, it would be nice to have another beautiful woman on the team. But given the severity of the current situation, Nariko was rather easily able to dismiss that kneejerk thought.

As the angel pressed her hands to Sachiko's wounds, the older ratfolk coughed, and Nariko could feel her pulse and breath grow stronger. Then Sachiko's eyes, beady and red like her daughter's, slowly opened.

"...Nari?" She rasped. "It really is you."

"Mama." Nariko breathed, taking one of Sachiko's hands and pressing it to her cheek. "You're okay. I- I was so worried, seeing you there, seeing you burnt... I..." She sniffled, tears glistening in her eyes. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay, Nari." Sachiko smiled, gently pulling her daughter down. Nariko lay next to her, sobbing into her mother's neck. "It wasn't your fault."

"But-" Nariko choked out, "They kidnapped you to get at me. Because I became a hero, you got hurt! I- I should never have..."

Sachiko's tail unraveled from hers, and gently tapped Nariko on the nose. A familiar, scolding motion. "Nariko. You can do things that no one else in our family can. And you chose to use your power for good. It's not your fault that some stupid fire guy kidnapped me." She smiled. "Besides, you saved me. Like I knew you would. So I was never in any danger."

Nariko sniffled again, and Sachiko ran a hand through her hair. "But I almost didn't save you. I needed help from... my team." They were still fighting, she realized, and her ears caught the sound of moving machinery in the distance. Very large moving machinery. Slowly, she began to rise. "My team. They're still..."

"Help them." Sachiko said. Before Nariko could protest, she weakly waved an arm. "I'm fine, now. Thanks to miss Angel. So go help your friends." She smiled. "And kick that fire guy's ass."

Nariko giggled, and leaped to her feet, blinking the last of her tears out of her eyes. "Can do." Turning to Gloria, she bowed deeply. "Thank you for healing my mother. I apologize, but we'll have to get acquainted later. My friends are still fighting in there. Please make sure mom gets medical attention. I'll repay you however I can when all this is over."

That said, Nariko was gone in a blink.

"Thanks, by the way." Sachiko smiled up at Gloria. "I do feel better, thanks to you. Though I think I'm going to..." Her eyes fluttered and closed. "Rest, for a bit."

Squad 1 - Inside Forest Base Hangar - Nariko

Giant Nazi robot. That was certainly a surprise.

Nonetheless, a potential threat. Lasers moved at lightspeed, meaning even Nariko couldn't actually dodge them, not after they fired. Fortunately, she was fast enough to prevent it from ever drawing a bead on her in the first place.

Also, she doubted it would shoot at itself. Which was relevant, as Nariko had almost immediately ran at the robot and began sprinting up its body, blades drawn and stabbing at any point on its body that she thought might be a weakpoint - primarily joints, though she also tried to attack and dismantle its weapons - flitting up and down the machine rapidly, never staying in one spot lest the thing try to swat at her.

Gloria, Outside the Base (Squad 1)

“It’s fine,” she reassured Sachiko. “Rest as long as you need to.”

Eventually an ambulance came for Sachiko, leaving Gloria without a patient to look after. She could simply wait until the rest of the squad returned from their venture, but that didn’t sit right with her. She flew to the base after Nariko and joined her new comrades.

Gloria, Inside Forest Base Hangar (Squad 1)

No one would see Gloria enter the base at first. She had used her power over light to become invisible so that she could safely assess the situation before jumping into the fray. It seemed their foe was some kind of robotic weapon, but the looks of it. Well, at least that meant there was no need to hold back against it.

There were a lot of faces to keep track of, but the most important variable right now was Nariko. She was climbing along the metal colossus, and a single miscalculation on the angel's part could lead to friendly fire. Since the rat ninja seemed to be targeting the robot’s joints, Gloria decided she’d go for the core. Now visible, she appeared like a thief in the night and began hacking and slashing at the robot’s center with a huge, flaming sword.

Demon Temple

With the Squad's respective efforts, the room was lit up in a flash, revealing the creature for all to see. In the middle of a dungeon made of stone bricks sat a writhing mass of slimy purple tentacles, all connected to a throng of large eyes in the center. The eyes closed shut as the light blinded them, somehow screaming in agony as it thrashed around its' tentacles in pain. However, it was still able to sense anyone who was still biologically functioning. As such, it lashed out at anyone it could get its' mitts on, desperate to end the source of its' torment.

Cole - Squad 3 (45)

"You know, we've got no time for some Japanese porno reject. Get lost, tentacle face!"

With his psionically generated light seeming to be causing the creature pain, Cole reacted to the tentacles coming in at them. He moved - shooting a large blast of concussive blue force right at the central mass of eyes even as he walled off a couple of strikes from the creature's tendrils.

Not as big as he'd like, but he worked with what he had. And they had to get through this shit as fast as possible so they could go and rescue the hostage.

If Mason could be less chatty it would be very much appreciated.

Cole got ready to move in, creating a psychic energy sword in one hand, which flashed blue as it came into existence.

Nazi Base

While the Gestapo-Bot wasn't letting up, neither were the heroes. The pterodactyl managed to smash spectacularly into its' chest, sending it crashing towards the nearest wall as Nariko stabbed at its' weak points. Unfortunately, ordinary metal wasn't enough to harm it, causing her blades to break off like toothpicks.

Fortunately, swords made of sheer blazing fire were considerably more effective. The robot didn't scream in agony, apparently not having been programmed for it, but it was still aware of its' predicament. Its eyes suddenly began to glow before releasing two dual blasts of energy straight at Gloria, just short of point-blank. At that range, they were enough to vaporize any mere mortal, and would still be enough to damage a servant of God. Assuming they didn't have any last-minute tricks up their sleeves.

Gaea HQ, Front Desk

Martin soon reached the front desk unscathed. He hadn't run into any traps or pitfalls along the way. Not even an ominous message warning him to continue on at his peril. It would be a relief if it weren't so unnerving in its' absence. Still, there was Orthus. He was still splayed out on the floor, apparently just as unconscious as he appeared. And yet there was something off.

For one thing, he was still wearing that collar. It was made of metal and was composed of multiple parts. For a mere collar, it seemed awfully meticulate. But on top of that, it was almost as if whoever was responsible wanted everyone to make it through in one piece. Still, they had what they came for. All they had to do was grab Orthus, head out the door, and they'd be home free.

Assuming it was that easy.

Demon Temple

The creature writhed in pain from Cole's blast, pulling back its' tentacles out of instinct. Still, by this point it had managed to recover from the sudden blast of light, and with its' eyelids having been closed, they were protected from the full brunt of Cole's attack. As such, the creature still had enough juice left for one last salvo. It opened its' eyes wide, unleashing a powerful beam of energy devasting enough to decimate anything in sight. Unless the heroes were able to produce sufficient defenses, they were in all likelihood screwed.

Lily – Nazi Base (Squad 1)

Okay. This was almost comical.

Almost. It was still twisted, wrong, and most definitely trying to kill them. But in any other situation, Lily might've found this whole thing ridiculous.

As it stood, though, she only narrowed her eyes and waited for an opportunity. Most of the others were front line attackers, whereas she preferred to react instead. Better to know what you were facing than rush in without a clue. Though the obvious drawback was that it'd put her friends in danger.

...

She should probably try attacking, now...

The increasing glow in the robot's eyes didn't give her much time to act, but Lily held onto the hope that the angelic newcomer was either resilient or fast enough to withstand it. In the split-second of time she got, she aimed in the machine's rough direction before launching a barrage of crystallized needles—bending them around any obstacles or comrades in the way and aiming to liquefy them into the robot's insides once they'd pierced its outer shell.

Assuming they pierced it in the first place.

Holiday – Gaea HQ (Squad 2)

“Careful. It may be a bomb,” Holiday warned, scanning the room with her eyes as she discreetly deployed Adam above her to act as an extra set of eyes. Still, she directed him to linger near the edge of the room—he would be quick enough to swoop in if she needed him anyway.

The collar looked... intricate. Which put her on edge. Shock collar, explosive collar, maybe even something more visceral than that. There looked to be a lot of parts. Holiday was almost afraid to take it off even if there was nothing waiting for them.

But there was.

Human instinct told her.

Human instinct she'd learned, and one still in its infancy.

But yet, she chose to trust it.

“If it's all the same to you, I think it'll be best if I go first,” she said quietly, glancing back for the briefest of moments to the others. “I have the tools necessary to free him if need be, and if something goes wrong... well, at least I'm disposable. I'm sorry if this ends badly, but... at least you'd make it out...”

I hope. Fish in a barrel.

“Actually, perhaps some of you can go and check back where we came from. Just in case. They might want to funnel us in. Just a thought,” she added, beginning to deploy several instruments as she carefully stepped towards the prone werewolf. “Not too far, if you do! We might need you in a flash!”

And here's the fun part...

Holiday was by no means a lightweight machine. It made sneaking ten times more difficult than it should have been. But she was a versatile robot, built for these kinds of potentially fragile and uncertain situations. So even though her steps were heavy, they were calculated—stopping on occasion to check everything was still idle before continuing slowly.

Please don't explode please don't explode please don't explode...

She was nearing him now.

Or behead him.

She had a horrible thought that she'd gone about this all wrong.

Do nothing, actually. Please? Just don't do anything. Come on, Holiday... you're built for this...

True to her thoughts, Vib immediately ran to another side of the room in order to hopefully divide the monster's attention. If it IS even a bad guy. It would be just like some of those villains to put some beastie in our way to fight and we find out later that it's as trapped as we are.

She shrugged and resolved to try and stop Cole from killing it without reason. Picking up some rocks and small pieces of stone, Vivian began flinging them at the huge creature with considerable force. At the same time, she kept an eye open for other threats or a way around the monster.

Cole for his part however was already taking action related to the power blast emitted by the monstrosity coming their way. Usually this kind of thing would make for a hasty temporary retreat, trying to hide and take a more advantageous ambush...but Cole was not in the mood for the time needed to work around this foe.

So instead he set up an impossibly varied wall of barriers in front of him Rebecca and anyone else right behind. Probably Mason considering he hadn't done any shouting.

The barriers instead of just dispersing the attack gathered and directed it around Cole and into a circuit, coursing the energy around faster, manipulating it and getting ready for the counterattack...!

And then Cole fired off the creature's own devastating blast right back into it at faster speeds than what it managed on them. He felt the air crackling with power around him. It was more than time to find Tyulla and get out of this hell temple.

Squad 1, Gloria – Nazi Base

As the machine prepared to make its attack, Gloria quickly moved her heavenly shield in front of herself. It managed to block one of the blasts, but the second ended up hitting her abdomen. This left a visible burn wound, but Gloria’s only reaction as the heat seared through her body was an understanded grimace. Even the gentlest angels had nerves of steel and never really cried out in pain as most beings were wont do in situations like this.

Gloria quickly flew away from the robot, back to where Lily was attacking the machine from range. The angel was durable enough that she could take plenty of punishment if she needed too, but there was no point in putting herself in more danger than necessary. She fired holy lasers at the robot’s guns, making them bend and bounce around to avoid Nariko.

It was always like that for them, things just get insane around here. While that first hit felt satisfying, there was still much to do, and someone new arrives. Well, Sam never gave much thought to these events if they worked for them.

"Hey, scrap pile!" He yelled, making sure to get their attention as he sent the pterodactyl to slam as hard as it could, before using its broken to try and shove them into whatever hole the new girl made, hoping to do some damage to the insides.

Making sure to make some distance from the others, he turned into his catman form.

Squad 1 - Inside Forest Base Hangar - Nariko

One of her arm blades snapped, and she quickly realized that her attacks would do nothing to the machine. It had no weak points, or at least, no points weak enough for her to harm. So she retreated, putting distance between herself and the robot, which had become the center of her team's assault.

Fortunately, their newest addition proved to be quite powerful, and tough. Between an angel, a mini-Saint, and two powerful elemental manipulators, it seemed they had things well in hand.

Then she remembered Burner, and shifted priorities, heading back outside after him. Her whiskers twitched, heightened senses picking him up easily - being made of fire meant always emitting smoke - and charging after him.

Squad 1 - Outside Base - Nariko

She was in front of Burner in an instant. Her body was tensed, in a combat stance, and her tail was raised threateningly. Her tail-blade, the only one of her five blades that had remained intact (likely because it was the largest and thickest of the lot), pointed threateningly at him.

"Despite what you've done, I don't want to kill you." She said, calmly. "But if it comes down to it, I won't hesitate to use lethal force to prevent you from escaping. So surrender, villain. Without hiding behind hostages or machines, you stand no chance of beating me."

At Nariko's announcement, Burner tensed up for the briefest of moments before easing back up, powering back up to a higher intensity and creating two flaming balls of fire in his open palms. "Oh really now? Thought you heroes frowned on that sorta thing. Don't think the bigwigs would take too kindly to gunning me down just for escapin'. Or am I dealin' with somethin' else here?"

Squad 1 - Outside Base - Nariko

"Heroes generally avoid killing, yes." Nariko's tail twitched in annoyance, and her tone was that of someone talking to a child. "Hence why I said I didn't want to kill you. The thing is, I don't know if I can non-lethally stop you. Given you're, you know, made of fire. If you'd like to enlighten me how to tie up a sentient flambe, I'd be more than happy to do so."

Her legs bent, slightly, and her head fell. "But if you don't surrender, and if I can't find another way to prevent your escape... you will die. I'm merely giving you advance warning before-"

She cut herself off with her opening attack, running at him at a blink, then past him, her tail out with the blade leveled at his knees. The result was a side-swipe strike that, against a human, would have severed tendons in the back of their legs.

Nariko didn't know if he even had tendons, but it was worth testing. She sincerely hoped that this wouldn't end with his death; even though he'd caused her mother such pain, any thoughts of killing him were stifled by the further thought of the Saint's disapproving look.

What is so amusing about this? Why do you take lives? How can you forget?

Iris - Squad 2

At least the collar wasn't a proximity activated bomb or something, but this was only slightly better. Iris really didn't want to hurt Orthus, but she couldn't let him hurt Holiday either.

Protecting Holiday took priority. Nobody hurt her squadmates. Ryuu was blocking the werewolf for now, but who knew how long he'd be able to keep him at bay? Wordlessly, Iris used her freeze beams to attempt to freeze Orthus's feet to the floor. That shouldn't do any permanent damage. If it wasn't left too long.

Rebecca - Squad 3

Well, that thing was gross. Though she supposed she wasn't one to talk. Still, it was clearly bad news, as evidenced by the massive energy beam Cole was attempting to block.

"I've got your back." With those words, the dust and debris of the dilapidated temple gathered up to form a secondary barrier behind Cole's shields. If any of the beam managed to get through, hopefully that would stop it.

Holiday – Gaea HQ (Squad 2)

“Assistance appreciated!” Holiday exclaimed, taking the opportunity presented by Iris and Ryuu's defensive attacks to manoeuvre out of the way of the enraged werewolf for a second. Momentarily considering what to do, she eventually leapt in again and made to grab at his paws—aiming to clamp them together with her hands before melding them shut in the form of temporary restraints.

If she could even overpower him in the first place.

“Come on, Orthus. Think of Perry,” she grunted. “She's worried sick about you. She would've come if she wasn't needed. Damn near prepared to rip the whole place apart by herself. Come on. Fight it! I know you can!”

She didn't. But she didn't want to just rip the collar off. Or even try deactivating it yet. It might be intrinsically tied into his central nervous system. Removing it without proper preparation might lobotomize him. Of course, it could have just been using specific frequencies to assault his senses and drive him nuts, but she didn't know for certain yet. She'd need to scan him properly, and for that they'd need to subdue him. All her mental effort was being focused on keeping herself and her allies unharmed.

So as to better hold her stance, her feet split apart horizontally and clamped solidly into the ground via serrated metal claws. They were mainly used for traversing rough terrain or near-vertical surfaces, so she had faith that they could keep her in place.

Her and a bloodthirsty werewolf? That she wasn't sure about.
