ITT: We're Animals in a Post-Apocalyptic Town

Krista also follows, ready to fight...

The animals approach the crowd in front of the building. There are about a dozen people, appearing to be both professors and students. The group may also hear crashing and banging noises coming from inside the building.

"Wh-what's going on?" Peter asks them. "How did monsters get in here?!"

"We don't know!" says an otter. "Everything started out normal this morning. Then around nine, I heard a crash, and when I went outside my office to look..."

"Ah... wh-what do we do?" an alligator stutters. "Some of our colleagues and students are still in there! Not to mention all of my papers... Oh, my life's work..."

Let us as try to get through there. We might be able to handle whatsss happening in there.

Y-Yeah! (Wanda says, a bit nervous.) Let's get in there and try to help before anyone gets hurt!

"Yeah..." says Jack. He had had butterflies in his stomach at first, but he's feeling a little more confident now that he's back with his friends. "Let's go!"

"Right!"

Cameron started to walk towards the doors.

Krista slithers over to the doors, ready to fight but yet not knowing what could be waiting in there..

Peter rushes into the building with the others. They find themselves in a large lobby, with several staircases on either side leading to the upper floors. An exit in the back of the lobby leads to an inner courtyard.

As they enter the building, a loud noise is heard coming from above them. If they look up, they will see that the chandelier is swinging from side to side due to something hanging onto it, which appears to be moving.

Uh...what's up there...? (Wanda asks, a bit quieter and in a more high pitched voice than she anticipated.)

"Hey!" Jack shouts at the mysterious thing on the chandelier. "Wh-who goes there? Show yourself!"

Upon hearing Jack's voice, the thing on the chandelier turns its head towards the animals, then jumps off. It comes spinning down and lands on the floor in front of the group. They can now see that it's not animal-like like most of the monsters they are probably used to, but rather some sort of machine or automaton, with four legs, two mechanical claws, and a pair of glowing blue eyes.

"W-What in the world...?" says Peter.

Uh...thisss isss an...odd creation...who did thisss?

What the...? (Wanda gasps as the automaton shows itself. She shakes her head and tries to answer Krista's question and prepare to start spell-casting.) I-I wonder if it was that Gregory jerk from yesterday.

As the machine looks at the group, it emits a sort of beeping noise and its eyes change from blue to yellow. It stretches out its arms, and its claws detach from its body, being launched towards the animals at high speed.

"Look out!" Jack tries to push the others out of the claw's way.

Krista slithers out of the way. She bares her fangs, ready to dive in and attack.

Peter narrowly dodges one of the claws, while the other one may hit Jack if he does not move out of the way fast enough. The claws eventually turn around, like a boomerang, and begin to move back towards the robot.

Jack just narrowly avoids being hit by the claw. As a result, he can't help but freeze in shock for a few seconds.

"A-are you guys okay?" he says afterwards.

"Y-yeah," says Peter, as the claws reattach to the robot. It then begins to quickly spin around while slowly moving towards the group.

"Dang it..." says Peter, trying to think of how to attack. "We can't get close to it like this!"

"Yeah..." says Jack. "If only it wasn't attacking us, I could open it up and tinker around with it."

Cameron narrowly avoided the claws. He would take off his hoodie, leaving him in just his vest and jeans, and got ready to attack.

"How can we get it to stop spinning?" Jack wonders out loud. He looks around the room for anything that might be useful.

Why don't we have Wanda to usssse a ssspell and freeze it in place?

(If anyone looks at Wanda right now, they'll see that Wanda, in her haste to stop the machine, has accidentally used a spell on herself that appears to have resulted in her turning into a stone statue and has been stuck this way for a the past few moments as the encounter started. Fortunately, said spell is just now wearing off.)

Ugh, I hate it when that one backfires... (She groans as she shakes her head and stretches a bit once she's back to normal.) What were you guys saying again? What did you guys want me to do about this guy?

Krista rather awkwardly looks over at Wanda as she fades from the Stone Statue spell.

Do that, but on that machine.
