So, the Yuffie episode is DLC for the PS 5 version of VIIR?

Well, that was an enjoyable presentation. Nothing there that blew my socks off, but games like Returnal, Sifu, Solar Ash, and Deathloop all look intriguing enough that I'll keep an eye on them.

Also glad that they finally added graphics to the PS5 :p

Returnal looks cool. I dig the fluidity and speed of the movement, really getting the sense of a 3D Bullet Hell. The surreal horror elements are quite intriguing too.

Aside from that, can’t say I cared much for anything else. Will probably play Kena and Deathloop on PC. To their credit though, those two games look gorgeous. But their new trailers didn’t show off anything particularly new. I’ll also have to muster the strength to finish FF7R one of these days.

Oddworld is kind of sketchy for me, like they just threw all the mechanics they could think of into a 2D action platformer. For example, what even is the point of the scavenging and crafting? Seems like busywork.

I kinda wish I liked Solar Ash more, but it’s somewhat unmemorable visually. The movement looks smooth and clean but also kind of weightless? And the designs for everything are generic.

The new Five Nights at Freddie’s game is significantly less scary with the lights on.

EDIT: SIFU is apparently by the devs who made Absolver, in which case I’m a lot more hyped for it.

In not-great news, PlayStation's Japan Studio as we know it is kind of sort of gone forever and ever.

So stuff like external production, software localization, and IP management of Japan Studio titles (stuff like Everybody's Golf, Ape Escape, Gravity Rush, and Knack) will be done elsewhere within PlayStation Studios.

Furthermore, it's probably safe to say any future Japan Studio stuff will be moved to ASOBI Team, recently known for the pack-in PS5 game Astro's Playroom. So we can probably call them "New Japan Studio".

SIGH. sad

Biden admin plans executive order to address chip-shortage woes: Semiconductor demand isn't going to drop, but supply has proven a problem.

The White House is launching an effort today to ease the global semiconductor supply crunch affecting a wide array of other industries, but any boost the administration can provide is likely to be on the far side of many more months of shortages.

President Joe Biden plans to sign an executive order this afternoon aimed at "securing America's critical supply chains." The order will address several challenges in the US supply chain, according to a fact sheet from the White House, with a particular focus on pharmaceuticals, mineral resources, semiconductors, and large-capacity batteries.

The silicon chip shortage is indeed tied to the pandemic, according to industry group research. Automotive demand dropped early in the pandemic, as people stopped going anywhere, but demand for other uses—such as devices used for virtual learning or telemedicine—went up. As every demand pattern around the world went topsy-turvy, the industry has struggled to keep up.

The shortages are beginning to affect all kinds of products. PC graphics cards are legendarily in short supply, and wafer shortages are a contributing factor. Companies are also expressing concern that shortages will affect the availability of gaming consoles and smartphones in the near future.

In both the US and worldwide, the auto industry is hit particularly hard at the moment. Several automakers have had to slow or halt production at their factories due to a lack of chips to put into new cars.

Okay I have a question since I don’t know where else to put this:

What PS1 games are incompatible with PS3’s? I want to know to determine if I still need to keep my old PS1 or simply use a PS2.

I think the list is on Wikipedia somewhere.

I’ve tried to find it but all I can find is a list regarding the games that have issues on PS2.

Think I might just keep my PS1.

The only three I know of for certain, from personal experience, are Rebel Assault II: The Hidden Empire, The X-Files Game, and Silent Hill, and the latter two are just graphical issues, they technically still work, but it is annoying enough to drag down the experience.

There may be more, but I never encountered any others, all the major titles that I played (Crash, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear, Ape Escape, and Spyro) all worked fine.

Even the games that work have emulation issues, I think. I'd just stick with the original hardware.

I want to be interested in it too, I was based on the strength of Hyper Light Drifter, but yeah, I dunno what it is, I'm just not super intrigued by Solar Ash. At least part of it is that that fast-paced exploration/platforming thing just doesn't look interesting to me.

I feel kinda bad about it, because I want studios to do new things... I just kinda wish they'd made another combat game

Report: PS5 storage expansion will be available by summer: Users should be able to load-in their own PCIe 4.0-rated M.2 drives.

Bloomberg cites unnamed "people briefed on the matter" in reporting that PS 5 owners will finally be able to expand the system's built-in storage by this coming summer. The planned firmware update that will unlock this feature will also allow for higher cooling-fan speeds on the system to prevent overheating, Bloomberg reports.

If it's PCIe 4.0 only that's going to suck. Those are expensive, even more than 3.0 NVME drives (and definitely more than SATA drives).

I'm not sure this is exactly the thread for this, but this seems to be the 'general' Playstation thread at the moment and I don't know where else to find out; Does anyone know, in March's PS+ games, is Remnant: From The Ashes the Complete Edition or just the base game?

Denuvo is coming to PS5.

It's the anti-cheat tech and not the shitty anti-piracy stuff but that doesn't instill a lot of confidence.

I know Denuvo is a type of DRM. I remember it being used on the steam version of Sonic Mania, where it required an internet connection on that game.

DRM and Anti-cheat are different things.

Anti-cheat is only about preventing people from cheating in games. There are a lot of cheaters in online games, even on consoles.
