The dark side is a pathway to many powers most would consider bullshit.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Okay that meme has gotten tired.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I mean, if the shoe fits...
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. The prequel memes are like Palpatine himself. They will never die.
It's been 3000 years…Helps that this film brought that one and Do It back. The classics are rolling back baby.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."It also made a lot of people reach for the brain bleach because of some implications.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen. The movie does address how Palpatine came back.
When the Resistance gets confirmation that he's alive again, someone asks how that's possible, and Dominic Monaghan's character spitballs some possibilities, such as cloning or arcane practices known only to the Sith, and everyone's just like, "Guess it's one those. Moving on."
I mean, that's not really adressing the issue - that's waving your hands and hoping the audience doesn't ask any further questions.
Welcome to Estalia, gentlemen.*mYsTeRy BoX*
A good question for another time ?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."No, it's saying, "Well, there are a few different ways he could have been brought back from the dead. The specific method used? Doesn't really matter."
It was spit-balled by some random no-name grunt.
Nothing he says is worth paying attention to.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."It's pretty recognizable as a cheap retcon. I remember Halo did the same thing when Halo 4 had a major character die in a very unmistakable way, and then Halo 5 had just one line of "oh uh they teleported and drank some space magic".
And that one also had a sudden super-fleet from nowhere that the prior games or EU didn't ever touch on, so the parallels do not stop!

No, it’s definitely a stupid retcon
I think there are enough handwave breadcrumbs in the movie for a viewer to put together how the dumb retcon supposedly happened but it’s still very very dumb and I’d have preferred it not happen

Forever liveblogging the AvengersIt's a transparent Hand Wave.
I'm thinking that what happened was, they dropped the cloning thing to hastily explain Snoke, and then decided to sort of imply it explained Palpatine as well, and (as usual) didn't want to actually give any information about it, ensuring that it failed to explain anything and just raised further questions.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. It's like this can only be answered two ways.
Palps was cloned but suffers from clone degeneration which is why he looks like shit & is seeking to body-jack.
Palps was never cloned, surviving as a half-alive corpse on life-support which is why he looks like shit & is seeking to body-jack.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."If it's the second how the fuck did he survive being blown up.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Technically more like disintegrated.
He apparently fell into the Death Star II's energy core which should have straight up vaporized him.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."They should've just said in the film he was cloned and was falling apart, all it takes is one line from Sidious and that's it.
C'mon why did Dark Empire of all things could do that easily but this film could not?
"Bingo! If two species hate each other, they will wipe each other out on their own."He must have had that Pokémon move that lets your survive anything with one hit point
Forever liveblogging the AvengersMaybe he used Protect instead.
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Palpatine moveset:
- Thunderbolt
- Rapid Spin
- Endure
- Leech Life
Palpatine has 1 hitpoint but his ability is Sturdy, but Rey forgot to bring Will o'Wisp or Toxic.

Inb4 someone posts that Sidious animation for the fiftieth time.
Seriously though, there's a lot of Sure, Why Not? and half-explanations in this movie which - while also something I tend to expect from Abrams - also speaks to how hastily they tried to rush trying to push a tidy explanation/conclusion for everything.

@miraculous: something something DARK SIDE.
