OK, here's where this thread is standing, with the unlocking:

Given the widespread backlash and complaining about certain aspects of the work (i.e. Dexit), we wanted to communicate very clearly what we are not willing to put up with: prolonged, circular complaining (or wonking).

Of course, with a controversial subject that has a large impact on the gameplay, Dexit is in one of those areas where there it may be on-topic to discuss it, but the nature of that discussion can wildly vary. As has been said elsewhere, we ix-nayed discussion of Dexit entirely because it never seemed to happen without devolving into that kind of complaining.

However, we're willing to unlock the thread after this 3-day cooldown period because the Pokemon General thread has been stable enough. And -

Can I discuss Dexit?

Yes. But if there is prolonged wonking on it, the thread just becomes an echo chamber of complaints and we do not like that. No one likes that. The same rules as ever apply. Be a constructive, healthy space. Have conversations about what you like, and what you don't like, but the thread should not get locked into a series of bitter complaints.

If you have questions or concerns about mod implementation or action, we have a thread for that here.

Alright? Thank you all for waiting this out. I hope we're all good now.

I just want to add all those jokes about sneaking Pokemon throughout the Galar Region border are hilarious and deserve to be in memetic mutation

I'll teach you a lesson about just how cruel the world can be. That's my job, as an adult.

Sorry, I’m busy laughing at the idea that Zubat was somehow damaging to Pokémon.

"The damage Zubat did"? You make it sound like it's a big, traumatic disaster or something, not an annoying Pokémon that can be warded off with Repel.

I accidentally posted this in the Smash Bros thread before, but how dare you all insult Golbat, it is a precious friend (I’ve never actually used it, but that’s beside the point).

Again, being present in every regional dex is a huge slap to the face, no matter how downplayed its encounter rates have been recently (and I'm absolutely sure it wasn't in Gen VII). If you're going to solve the Zubat problem, just make it absent for once in a generation! Zubat is a huge factor in why Repels are so popular. If they weren't so prevalent in every cave, people would have gone through the caves and gave the wild pokemon there a chance. And in places like Unova and Kalos where they appeared in only a few select areas, they really shouldn't have appeared at all if they really wanted to emphasize diversity.

It’s not a slap in the face that a Pokémon you don’t like happens to be in every region. Not even every game. Just every region.

Completely Missing The Point, much?

And I'm almost sure Zubat has appeared in literally every game. Tell me one that it hasn't. It's a full on Creator's Pet at this point.

In all seriousness, while the way Zubats are included in the game can be very annoying, I feel like you’re be rather hyperbolic, what with acting like they were some crippling setback to the games.

I probably have no room to talk since I personally don't mind the Zubat line and like Crobat, but I really feel like you're taking Zubat's presence in the games waaaay too personally, like GF keeps having the line in the games just to spite you and only you.

[up][up][up]Ah right. Sorry. My bad. Although I don't consider that to count given that the whole game's premise is "No previous pokemon in the regional dex."

My point still stands that having Zubat absent would actually be a considerable innovation. Hell, it'll make Zubat even more special to those certain Zubat fans. Although with the whole You know what topic, that's not possible. This time.

Magikarp has appeared in every game. Pikachu appears goddamn everywhere. Charizard appears just about everywhere, has two Mega Evolutions, and is presumably about to get a Dynamax form.

How is Zubat any worse than those?

Also, Repels are liked because not everybody wants to see every Pokémon in every patch of grass. And because Gens 4 and 5 had ridiculous encounter rates. Zubat has barely anything to do with any of that.

[up]Magikarp: Absent from Unova's dex (though purchasable in the postgame). Pikachu: Absent from Unova's dex and can only be obtained via trade. Charizard: As a starter pokemon, usually absent from most foreign regional dexes aside from Kalos. And say what you want about those species, they aren't Goddamn Bats incarnate. They'll leave you well enough alone in the wild.

Yes, I know it's hypocritical, but I too appreciate the availability of Repels. But Zubat is a whole other monster. With its capacity to poison, confuse, and outspeed you constantly, it gives Wobuffet a run for its money, and those are relatively rare.

So it counts when Magikarp and Pikachu are left out of Black and White, but not Zubat?

Zubat is certainly more annoying than the average wild encounter, that much is true. But to act like its inclusion is some personal affront...don’t you think that’s taking it a bit far?

...I take it you don't use Surf a lot, then? Or go fishing? Magikarp is everywhere, man. Also, it can be purchased in Black and White, which means it's in more games than Zubat. And it doesn't even give you anything. Zubat at least can be good for exp farming in the early game.

As for Pikachu, sure, it's not in every game, but it is in everything else Pokémon related, no matter how little people might like the thing.

And Charizard is a clear case of favoritism, constantly being the Pokémon Gamefreak gives new toys to (and I actually like it, so I shouldn't really be complaining).

My point is, you seem to be singling out Zubat, but there's way worse stuff in the franchise, man. And you can't use Repels to get rid of some of those, since they're marketing problems.

In fairness, Magikarp are common, but are pathetically easy to deal with, whereas Zubat are common and really annoying to fight. The latter point seems to be the primary point of contention here. I actually agree that Zubat is more of a pain than these other examples, I just think it’s being blown way out of proportion.

Golbat was in BW's post game.

So, bizarrely, Zubat in some form actually has been wild in more main games than any other Pokemon

dead ass though just buy repels

Yeah, I know about the water encounters too. I don't usually run into Magikarp, funnily enough. And when I fish, it's not usually with the Old Rod.

Oh well, guess people aren't as dedicated to change as I am, so we'll end this discussion here. Though I won't lie; I wouldn't mind seeing another Poison/Flying type, just for the sake of curiosity.

...I hope Morpeko can evolve. Won't count on it though.

[up][up] I do suppose that Repels wouldn’t be much use if your aim is to catch a certain Pokémon in a cave that’s filled to the brim with Zubats...

Sure, but then there are things you can use to counter them in that specific case. Pokémon faster than Zubat, Pokémon immune to poison and confusion... it's not a massive issue. Certainly nothing that harms the franchise as a whole.
