Calling it now, she's the sixth ranger. No spoilers because obviously I don't know.
She is also extremely purple, to the point of almost gaudy. Interesting choice.

Optimism is a duty.a descendant of Twilight Sparkle perhaps?

...I would assume Opaline isn't the sixth ranger, but Misty is instead.
Well, if they seem to be hiding her cutie mark, it is going to be a major plot point at least.
Optimism is a duty.Sorry Luna, looks like the fanbase has a new waifu now.
Scar himself looks like foreign, weak, and with very female moves.Opaline's similar colors and such are probably to establish them as the Evil Counterpart of Twilight (who's going to appear in some capacity) as the powerful alicorn ruler with a student.
Likewise, I'm calling Misty as the G5 version of Starlight Glimmer as the student to the alicorn, magical prodigy (given her access to lost knowledge about it) who get redeemed.
> Sorry Luna, looks like the fanbase has a new waifu now.
Luna nods sadly
New theme music also a boxx2
Yeah. Misty seems the most obvious for being redeemed. Unless they pull a bait and switch and make her another Cozy Glow though you'd hope the backlash towards how Cozy Glow was handled would prevent that. Like the mane five as is are clearly adults but Misty seems younger than them all. I guess she could be older than she looks, but still...

&Don't worry, Luna, I still love you◊. ;) :)
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue. Some fans have speculated that Opaline was a student of Twilight who went rogue. Which would account for her remark of "taking back what is rightfully mine" - she may have played a part in creating the Unity Crystals. And if the comic is to be believed, she may also have played a part in creating the need for the Unity Crystals.
Though that still leaves the question of how she became an alicorn. Did she properly earn her upgrade before turning evil, or did she find some way to sidestep the "princess-worthy task" thing?

I'm expecting that it'll turn out that Opaline isn't a "true" alicorn and is just faking it somehow, perhaps with illusions or shapeshifting of some kind.
I mean, technically Sunny is a shapeshifting alicorn as well, so that distinction would seem rather academic right now.
It's not impossible to go with that angle, but I think that would make it a little too confusing for the smaller kids, so they probably won't go for that.

Optimism is a duty.I don't think "that alicorn is a fake!" would be too complicated for kids to understand.
Well, maybe not.
Optimism is a duty.Opaline could be a descendant of either Celestia, Luna, or Cadance. Hell, maybe even Twilight or Flurry. Alicorns are able to give birth to other Alicorns so it might not be a stretch. Or maybe Opaline is some kind of mutant.
Scar himself looks like foreign, weak, and with very female moves.Opaline has a LOT of physical similarities with Twilight. If I was unaware of the comics establishing otherwise, I'd go with the "she's Midnight Sparkle" theory.
With that pretty obviously debunked without like... Splitting Twilight's soul or something, Opaline being Twilight's daughter WOULD explain why she looks a lot like Twilight in general color scheme and mane patterns.
The Crystal Caverns A bird's gotta sing.Or she's unrelated and the creators just want to invoke Twilight's design. Remember that this franchise does that a lot, like how Sunny is basically Scootaloo etc.
Also, there seems to be little relation between colour and family relation. Just look at Pinkie and Maud.
Optimism is a duty.In issue 2 of the G5 comic, the pony who turned the tribes against each other was strongly hinted to be a unicorn version of Opaline. There's no guarantee that will remain canon, but with the effort Hasbro put into maintaining continuity between "Tell Your Tale" and the "Make Your Mark" special, it's not that unlikely that they've been working more closely with IDW as well.
That's an interesting change of tack, yes. It probably helps that the different series were conceived as a cohesive franchise rather than tie-ins into a running show.
Doesn't stop them from publishing things out of order, it seems, but it is neat.
Optimism is a duty.Heck, I just noticed that at the end of the "Make Your Mark" special, the detective glasses that Izzy made for Zipp back in the "Tell Your Tale" episode "The Game Is Ahoof" can be seen on Zipp's desk.
Yeah, I think the Youtube series was meant to be run alongside the main series, but for whatever reason, they dumped the whole thing ahead of it instead, probably in hopes of drumming up hype.
Going by this thread, the hype isn't going that well.
Optimism is a duty.So with the first couple episodes coming out tomorrow I've been meaning to ask. Friendship is Magic gets shortened to FiM. Does Make Your Mark have a fan shorthand yet?
Also I wonder if this thread will become more active once the show actually starts.
I hope so, it will depend if this show can find back its former audience and fire that same spark again that Fi M did.
Optimism is a duty.
Well, that did not take long, then.
