Erm, that didn't happen for me, one tab was Right Through His Pants and the other was The Web Always Existed.

The destination for the random trope and media buttons are fixed when the page is loaded. If you reload the page or go to a different one, the trope will change.

Tried it myself; couldn't reproduce. The destination for the "random trope" button is picked when a page loads, though, so it could be that you weren't actually doing this with separate tabs.

It really isn't! Try opening up a particular trope in two tabs. Click the "Random Trope" button on both of them. They will both direct you to the same trope.
My guess is that each trope is supposed to take you to a particular page when you click the "Random Trope" button. If you were to write out the results of each "Random Trope" click, you probably could calculate how many click it would take to get to a particular trope.
