"I take back everything I said about Sonic." Good point. Do they look better or worse than movie Sonic's initial design?
It's been 3000 years…My favorite reaction though is probably this one:
It just completely breaks him.

The funny thing is that this movie cost about $300 million to make.
You could flush that money into a septic tank and get better entertainment value.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI still wonder who in the world thought this was a good idea. I spose it sounded decent in idea...
Everything that lives is designed to end.I mean, we technically don't know if it'll be terrible yet.
Correct. But we are very good predictors when it comes to potential bombs, especially with a film that has a budget passed $200 million up against Star Wars.
That reminds me of another cat musical.
"And when they fall, they'll really fall! And they're gonna fall big... and they're gonna fall loud..."
I noticed that generally, when the trailer gets middling or bad reception, it usually ends up being middling or bad. Reactions to the announcement of new Terminator movie wasn't that great and it's a box-office bomb. Dark Phoenix did not gather up much excitement... and it did not surprise people that much. Men in Black International was pretty much the same. It's not concrete of course, but it's a trend I've noticed recently.
Still, I believe that sheer Uncanny Valleyness will overshadow merits of this movie.

Everything that lives is designed to end.And don’t forget Emoji Movie and how the trailer and movie are equally abysmal.
It's been 3000 years…And then there's Venom...

At the same time, though, I feel like it has to have some merit to pull in people like Dench and McKellan - who, if you didn't know, despises CGI; he actually cried when told how little he'd be working with actual actors in the Hobbit movies.
The theatre is certainly not what it was...
They're doing it because of the paycheck I imagine
New theme music also a boxEh, that's not entirely what happened with The Hobbit. (EDIT: He definitely had issues with it and does not like CGI at all. Just not that he broke immediately at the CGI being used in the Hobbit)
What happened is that the original first plan was to use the visual tricks they used in LOTR with CGI only being needed for specific things. This failed as soon as they tried to use 3D with the viewing since the 3D caught that the two people were actually at different ends of the table from each other. They then came to the conclusion that they should instead use CGI to composite in the other people and basically film the scenes in the Bilbo's house twice: Once with Martin Freeman and the dwarves and once with Sir Ian Mckellen opposite a bunch of tennis balls. He tried to soldier through it only to have a breakdown on set as well as consider quitting acting. Jackson's response was to do everything he and the crew could to raise Mckellen's morale up and do their level best to avoid making him act without anyone near by for the rest of the film (They hired several dwarf extras to play the dwarves and Bilbo for the rest of the shoot and used them when they needed to film him.)
He has, in years since, opened up about how he also really doesn't like working with green screens too much and greatly prefers working on actual sets or mountainous vistas like LOTR did (In fairness to Jackson and crew, The Hobbit had some positively massive behind the scenes issues to the point where the film trilogy coming out in even a logical fashion was a success. When you make a duology into a trilogy in order to SAVE the production, you had a fucked up production.)
As for Cats... My brain just sees the uncanny valley here and just starts screaming. I will probably avoid this film as a result. I enjoy seeing everyone's horrified reactions though.

Start of match* I did not come here to be Queen of the Ashes. Five minutes later* I AM FIRE I AM DEATHWhen I was looking the movie up, I learned that Dench was actually going to be in the original stage production of Cats before having to pull out from injuries, so I'm guessing that might've played a factor into casting her for the movie.
Yes, Dench is most likely the only one in this movie who applied for the role specifically because it's Cats.
Mc Kellen did start out as a stage actor of course so the idea of performing without any kind of response or other actor to physically and emotionally react TO is probably harder for someone with that background. It can be done of course and many actors are perfectly comfortable with both but it's a bigger deal for some than others.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."This.
Stepping back from Green Screen acting with CGI is probably stuff like Voice Acting. Acting on Green Screen against CGI, at least you can possibly work out some physicality to it. You are actually walking from some place and can emote things to work through to the right intonation of lines and etc.
Voice acting... it's just the line. And you're in a booth. No set. Directors and Crew are all behind a window and not with you. There's rarely someone to act against. You might not even be able to see the animation or scene that these lines will go with, oft not even the context based on some VA strike accusations.
All I took from the trailer was that Idris Elba looked like a pretty good Victor Creed...
He's the only one that doesn't give me the creeps for the wrong reasons. Like I don't know about Cats at all, but he seems like a villain, so the creepy appearance works for him.
It's been 3000 years…At least he actually looks like a criminal mastermind that is described in the song as opposed to the stage musical where he looks and acts more like a wild beast.
Hey, so this movie's also premiering. Remember it?
Well then.
I would so watch Cats in the interest of watching a bad movie if I didn't want to watch a good movie for my birthday instead.
It's been 3000 years…
Watch Andre the Black Nerd's reaction videos to these trailers. They're hilarious.
