And I say protagonist instead of singer as not all songs are about the person singing them (and could even be about a completely made up character.) Anyway Til Tuesday- Voices Carry is probably my biggest one.

Also not the protagonist but I always felt bad for the girl in "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye" by Soft Cell.

Oh man I can't believe I forgot about Everclear- Wonderful (and the protagonist is a kid which makes it seem even more cruel).
