Super Smash Bros Ultimate (SPOILER Thread)

Uhhh something about a bunch of characters not being the 5th fighter, I think?

Looked like there was some drama with leakers, going through a list of companies NOT possible as number 5, then retracting some of those companies, then all, then back again.

Currently, no one character or company has confidently been confirmed as character 5.

The plot thickens...

Really though, I got a gnawing feeling it might be a Namco character. We're at a point where third-party companies with the biggest ties to Nintendo are getting more than one representative:

• Sega: Sonic, Bayonetta (since Sega published the first game), Joker (since Sega owns Atlus)
• Capcom: Mega Man, Ryu, Ken
• Square-Enix: Cloud, Dragon Quest Hero

Up to now, Namco (who helped develop Smash 4 and Ultimate) has only had the one rep: Pac-Man.

Meanwhile, we got word of how Namco trademarked "Klonoa of the Wind Encore" back in September last year, similarly to how they trademarked Katamari Damacy Reroll and Katamari Damacy Encore leading up to a proper announcement in the Nintendo Direct for September 2018 and released on December 2018.

I recently hypothesized that if Klonoa Encore got trademarked on September 2019, we could hear something about it or any of the other Namco Encore titles on an upcoming Nintendo Direct. And if it's Klonoa, it could be a perfect segue to announce him as Fighter #5...

Of course, there's always the possibility that Nintendo will reveal someone no else expected and I'll have looked like a complete dunderhead.

Man, I walked headlong into that one, didn't I?

It wasn't even drama. In Vergeben's case, he was given vague information and misunderstood the company thing. Though with the proper information released, some companies were still listed as "not having a character for fighter pass 5" regardless. And then his source, the one who is the inbetween to another source, seems just awful at communicating at this point. Which is part of where the company confusion came from. So it's just telephone at this point.

One of the leaks posited that KOS-MOS was going to be revealed as fighter 5, but I don’t remember the specifics of it.

I remember reading a list of who Fighter 5 WASN'T going to be. I don't remember all of the people, but I think Doomguy and Klonoa were in it?

But I don't think anything came of that?

I actually like the King of Fighters stage and honestly most walk-offs should follow its "knockback wall" rule unless it's say, a scrolling stage.

KOF stage is specifically designed for stamina battles so Sakurai can play Real Bout Fatal Fury HD for his own leisure.

I have my heart set on Bandana Waddle Dee or Klonoa, but I'd be lying if this didn't make me want Master Chief in Smash:

I'm partial to the same user's Hat Kid one myself.

Well there are rumors of a direct this week but really, i'm pretty sure there is always rumors about a direct in a given week so who cares.

The direct this week is for Pokemon.

So what are the chances that the final fighter is a Pokemon character?

Low, unless Pokemon becomes third party.

Imma watch it and then complain to Nintendo that there is no smash news.

Don't question my flawless logic.

If I had to guess, I'd wager that the fifth fighter will still be third-party like all of the other Fighter Pass characters have been and if we got a Gen 8 Pokémon rep, it'd be one of the post-FP "Victory Lap" characters.
