But yeah, this was suprising. I never played Streets of Rage (kind of want to try it via the App Store), but I remember it as one of the SEGA franchises of olden times. The guys who made this made the very visually-pleasing Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap remake, so I've confidence they can revitalize another SEGA classic just fine.
So after this, can we get a Ristar 2 next?

That's what I'm hoping for too. I'm thinking maybe we'll get at least more than 10 characters (Like maybe 15 at the most), with Adam Hunter, Skate, Max Thunder, Dr. Gilbert Zan, and Roo all returning. Maybe even include more characters via DLC if the developers want to, though part of me doubts that.

Didn't know about him. He wasn't included in the "Playable Characters" folder under the Streets of Rage 3 section even though Roo was for some reason. But sure, him too. In fact, just bring all of the old playable characters back and give us a ton of new ones too.

Ash wasn't playable in the western release, at least not without a game genie. (He didn't appear at all, in fact.)
He's still one of gaming's first openly LGBT characters, I guess. I doubt his career will take off like Poison's though.

The core old guys are back but I want to see 4's new batch of baddies, too. Axel having a new design and there being some new evil lady with a snake is kind of interesting, and suggest it's not just gonna be 100% nostalgia pandering without bringing anything new to the table.
As far as Ash being LGBT representation
yeah, I suppose he is. Not really the best case of any, given he's a villain and mostly a joke in all capacities, but. He's there, I guess.

Ash is LGBT? I feel he is a bit too campy that would make others feel uncomfortable. But i'm LGBT so i don't how actual LGBT people would feel about Ash.

Almost a quarter century, yes.
Don't know why beat'em'ups have become so rare. It's not like belt scroll games suddenly stopped being fun.
In-game I don't think much time has passed, Blaze is still smoking hot so Axel must have just let himself go really really bad.

Not really. As I said, Anime Females tend to age far more gracefully than their male counterparts, often still looking hot well past the point where they should.

Maybe, although none of the mooks seem to have aged much either and it's being made by a western dev. I wonder what Axel's story is here. Somehow I doubt he'll have the same personality as his PXZ 2 counterpart...

Ash is flaming gay, but hardly uhhh progressive lol. He's Camp Gay played totally straight.
Crossdressers as street gangsters to add flamboyancy and character to the gangs' rosters happened in games quite a bit. Shenmue did the same thing with Yuan(who's canonically partners with Dou Niu) and of course Poison/Roxy from Final Fight applies.
Admittedly I do find Ash pretty hilarious, though I can see how he's problematic. He's a lot of fun in Remake.
