That's what I said too.
I am really enjoying the dub.
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"Hey folks, just bopping in from having finished... uh, I guess 1.5 episodes. Asking as someone who doesn't mind spoilers, does Akane start getting any more character exploration or so on, or hints that she'll join the Alliance against evil computer dude? I fully acknowledge that tokusatsu isn't my usual wheelhouse, so if this is me coming in and complaining about dumb stuff, I'll cop to that. I just like Akane and think I'd enjoy her more as a Sixth Ranger than a bad guy.
It's been fun.I don't see how she can, She erased volleyball girl from existence.
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"Akane is like, the worst and also the source of kaijuu so I can't see her chainging sides.
Akane's sorta one of the main characters, but the show's been really slow at doing much of anything past episode 3. I think she'll probably get some sort sympathetic backstory towards the end
Well, her OG counterpart switched sides eventually, so I can see Akane doing the same. Whether she'll be redeemed is another matter entirely.
"I'll show you fear, there is no hell, only darkness." My twitterThat's all very fair. It's just that so far, the kaiju fights aren't interesting enough to stick around for on their own, and waiting ten episodes for the kids to realize that hey, maybe the only other person in the school who knows about the kaiju is evil or at least weird in some way, doesn't sound like my cup of tea.
Thanks for answering my questions, folks.
It's been fun.x2 I'm not sure how she can be sympathetic from what we've seen So far.
"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"Whether you find her sympathetic is entirely isn't necessarily related to whether the show tries to portray her as such. To me it looks like things are building up to getting Akane's backstory and her reconciling with Rikka, the latter of which is unlikely to involve portraying her as a pure villain
On the other side of the spectrum, I kind of like Akane to be a Pure Evil villain *brickd*

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."I'll probably keep checking in every now and again to see how things are shaping up, I guess. If they're not going to redeem her (which by definition would involve repenting for the whole retgonning people thing, which doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility for the forces involved), then they would need some other kind of overarching character plan, since I don't know if pure Monster of the Week works anymore.
It's been fun.x3
Getting her backstory doesn't necessarily mean she's going to repent or be sympathetic.
And being sympathetic wouldn't really excuse what she has done anyway.
And to be clear, i like her as is.
×2
Same.

"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"If they're planning to redeem her, they should probably give her some redeeming qualities beforehand, because as it stands she's just the worst.
Yeah. She has retgone or try to retgone people for very minor things.
Volleyball girl even apologize for accidentally hitting the lunch Akane was going to give to Yuta, but that didn't save Volleyball girl from Akane.

"They truly were a Aqua Teen Hunger Force"@Shlugo @Cortez Yea... I just hope Akane doesn't get an Orochimaru/Madara treatment in the future (A heinous villain who got a redeeming qualities out of nowhere in the last moments). That's just p****s me off a bit unless if she developed some redeeming quality in the middle of the arc.

"Making screw-ups and mistakes was I ever really good at. Because everything I touch went to hell."Yeah, the thing about Akane is she doesn’t seem to need any prodding. Takeshi and Malcolm both had to be egged on for their schemes to go beyond “make the kid from Boy Meets World look bad.” Even if one of those schemes involved putting him on the FBI’s Most Wanted List, it’s not the wanton murder Akane revels in.
One thing this video highlighted to me was how Trigger deliberately framed and directed the cuts and transitions and closeups to make the scenes with the kids all awkward, invasive, and off-center, then made sure the action scenes where Gridman starts wrangling kaiju are always perfectly framed and dynamic shots.
Do we have tropes for that, or is it covered under Uncanny Valley?
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls! That video is really interesting, and it kind of makes me want to keep watching even though I didn't really find the characters all that engaging. As the narrator says, if it's going to end up a mess like Franxx, at least it's a well-shot mess.
It's been fun. It’s much more tightly plotted than Franxx, which had several middle episodes interrupted with the B plot that felt like Shinzo Abe telling everyone to have kids.

That Kilo Kahn voice is awesomely fitting.
The three finest things in life are to splat your enemies, drive them from their turf, and hear their lamentations as their rank falls!New episode:
We're at the halfway point, and we got some interesting revelations...but more mysteries.
Yuta's new friend gives a lot of truths, but there's still so much we don't know that taking her at her word may not be such good move. Time will tell. Meanwhile I wonder if Yuta will tell the team what he just learned, or if he'll try to confirm things himself before hand.
One Strip! One Strip!Regarding Akane's redemption, remember that there's good odds this is some kind of VR sim she's locked herself into and everyone else (with the possible exception of Rikka) is an NPC. In which case, we're not dealing with a capricious megalomaniac, we're dealing with a severely depressed person in a self-destructive downward spiral. In other words, imagine Evangelion if we weren't following Shinji, but a team of therapists sent to free him from the godawful world he's created.
What's precedent ever done for us?
DouMoko did a great job with this LEGO Gridman

With a "0", not an "O".
