Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
- Why did we do this? This update has been in development for over a year. It replaces a vast amount of messy code on the back-end, gives us a new modernized design, updates us to https, and creates a platform that we can more easily build on for future updates.
- Can we go back to the old design? This isn't happening. We'll make the new one work.
- Why are there so many bugs? As with any major overhaul, some problems will occur. The developers are working full-time on fixing stuff.

- Can't search specifically by thread title, making results unhelpful.
- Pagination doesn't work correctly — the last page displays as if there were no search results.
- Line breaks don't work in some areas. (Ask The Tropers, Trope Launch Pad, forum previews) [Patched]
- ATT, TLP, forum previews fixed. Some more line breaking issues were identified and are being worked on.
- The Cut List does not work.
- Cannot approve or deny requests. [FIXED]

- Note, subscript, and superscript formatting are broken in various places. [FIXED]

- Articles may become locked when edited, or when backing out of editing without clicking Cancel. Moderators can remove the locks but can't fix the underlying problem. [Patched]
- Remaining issue: the lock system still doesn't distinguish between an article that's locked and one that's checked out for editing.
- Edits won't save when "<" or ">" characters are present in the markup. [Patched]
- HTML detection was disabled for the time being. We're working on a more robust system.

- In-line icons for Flame Bait, Trivia, and YMMV wicks are intended, but sometimes overlap preceding text. [Patched]
- Trivia icons should not appear in-line. (Design issue, logged)
- In second-level bullets, icons overlap preceding text. [Logged]
- The [invoked] tag no longer suppresses the aforementioned icons. [Logged]
- [quoteblock] markup causes everything inside to appear italic and squashed together. [FIXED]

- Post numbering is no longer visible, although you can retrieve it from the hard-link. [Logged]
- "Delete all posts by user" mod feature now causes posts to be completely hidden instead of replaced with "Troll Post". [Logged]

The code for linking to a URL seems to not work on different parts of the website. For example, I can link a URL
◊ just fine in this forum post (according to the preview option, at least), but trying to do the same exact thing in a crowner just produces broken links.
Unfortunately, I must echo other commenters when I ask why so many websites are determined to fix things that aren't broken. The previous TV Tropes layout was just fine. Why go through all this trouble?

I thought I was hacked for a minute...geez I was so scared. This layout is really, REALLY buggy.
I tried to change my avatar, and I discovered that I can't upload a new profile image. When I can actually get through the white box to upload the image, I can't confirm it. It just says "Error updating remote server".
Am I the only one this is happening to? I have a feeling this is related to the update.

Also dunno if it's on purpose, but the blue "This is the last post you read" overwrites the red "Moderator speaking in Mod-voice" post color.
Sorry if I already mentioned this, but whenever I try to log in on Safari, the login box doesn't show up.
What happened to the turn spoilers on/off button? I mostly use this site on a tablet, so I cant just highlight the spoiler text.

The final action/crowner icons are now put at the end of thread titles instead of the start, making them hard to pick out at a glance.
I suspect the "private discussion" errors are caused by people being logged out after clicking the "new post" button.

The Wide Load function doesn't seem to change anything.
Also, the new color scheme is pretty ugly compared to the previous one.
To clarify on the login issue I experienced a while ago, I wasn't even logged in at the time. I entered the thread logged out and every time I refreshed, I had unrestricted access to the account of a random person who had posted in the thread. Seemed to change users with every refresh.
It was only after leaving the thread that I was able to login to my account, at which point the issue SEEMED to end. Also looks like the post I attempted to make while "logged in" as someone else to demonstrate the issue didn't go through until I logged into my own account, and it posted as me, so...

Also not a fan of how signature markup doesn't work, not sure if intentional or a bug but I, and several others, would love to have this feature back (especially for the avatar-based forum games, with matching signatures ect.)

Okay, memes aside, this is an awful change. I thankfully haven't ran into the logging in as someone else problem, but I do have this issue where despite having my settings switched to automatically open all folders, they're still closed. The fact that the show spoilers option is also in settings instead of the sidebar is really annoying. And as many people have stated, I don't see why the layout was changed in the first place. Especially since it's so buggy and filled with features no one seems to like. The on;y good thing I can say about it is that I like the colors in the Nightmare Fuel and Sugar Wiki pages. I feel like this should have been tested much more thoroughly before implementing. I don't even want to try and edit pages since people are mentioning how there's now an edit limit of some kind? And it also doesn't work? I really hope these changes get fixed ASAP, because I'm not using a buggy site.

Can someone please resolve the post number issue? As someone who has multiple forum posts bookmarked for easier access, this unnecessary change is just preventing me from accessing them, and it is driving me nuts.
I'd also love for them to be visible again, as opposed to having to keep clicking on dates and counting by hand.
Also, no desktop option access now? That's really frustrating, since I do that on my phone to check out the format.

My avatar seems to be having problems - it shows up fine in the top bar, but on my profile it's a broken image.
I can't figure out how to switch to desktop.
All hidden spoiler text causes your mouse to change to an arrow instead of cursor when hovering over it, something that only used to happen when you were hovering over a link in the spoiler (which would send you to the link instead of un-hide the spoiler) — now we don't know if we're about to click a potentially-unwanted link or not.

I think my post was missed. On mobile, there is no formatting. It's literally black-on-white text and images if I'm lucky. No sidebars, no test boxes, nothing. I would upload an image, but that's just showing a blank popup with nothing to click on.

I can't edit pages and other people are having the same problem. Every time we try we get the message "you're trying to change too much of this Wiki page", despite just trying to add a single trope.

Yeah....I can't handle the editing of this overhual. My edits are impossible to confirm because the page has to lag and not load back to itself properly (otherwise I have to resend info and either way when I go back to the page I was editing it somehow ends up as locked), as well as everything feeling far too compressed whenever it's separated by bullet points.

I really, really dislike this new format. Along with the stuff that got fucked up like the notes and the indentation on mobile format, the 1.8 version has little color. I would really like if there was the option to go back to the previous format.
