If it's an inherent trait of the character's family, then it does count. Examples that specifically refer to characters inheriting evil traits were moved to a new subtrope, Villainous Lineage, via a Trope Transplant.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
In the first example, many members of a family have issues with addiction, mental illness, etc, and the character hypothesized that it might be a family trait.
In the second example, a character's mischievous streak is attributed to him being descended from The Fair Folk.
SpaceBattles.com fanworks (unnoficial) index in my Sandbox.I would say that that first on is It Runs in the Family (which is when insanity, mental illness, or “quirkiness” is a trait that is passed down the family tree) and the second one is In the Blood.

Macron's notesRestarting the clock.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportI guess I should note that I've been hacking away at the wicks the last few days. I've put a pretty decent dent in the wicks; but I'm apparently the only one working on it after taking Macron Notes' place.
I'm using the Sandbox to keep track of what needs to be done, since I tend to jump around to prevent too much monotony. I just blitzed all the Pantheon and Recap pages a few mins ago.
I was burnt out and dealing with IRL stuff so I decided to step away from wick cleaning. I didn't do what I said I was going to do last time I posted here buut I finished the rest of Characters/ D today (updated the sandbox as well) and will try to do more later.
Macron's notesDealt with Characters E, F, and about half of G, as well as Series/ and Sandbox/
Webcomics, Web Original/ and Visual Novel/ are done.
Macron's notesVideo Games and Characters G-J and some of K are done.
OK, now all of the Characters/ are done up to the beginning of R, and all of the namespaces past Literature/ are dealt with.
The Characters/ namespace is FINALLY finished. the only major namespaces left are Comic Book, Fanfic, and Literature.
The wick cleaning is complete, so I think this is about ready to wrap up.
Good to hear. Time to close.

Vote up for yes, down for no.
So question, since I just found this TRS - would traits like psychological issues or mischief count for this trope? I have a few examples in mind that may be misused.
