I mean, it still is a mainline game. No amount of Go integration is gonna change that its still a Yellow Remake.
Right, but it's not the next generation, which is what I was implying with "next mainline game."
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Maybe I'll just get Ultra Sun.
I have a message from another time...I think ideally they'd look like good games on their own even if they were specifically targeting a younger audience, but from a business stand point the idea at least is very smart. Tossing out an underbaked product quickly to get something resembling a mainline game on the Switch so that they can market it to an audience that doesn't really care about the games, or even video games in general will really help Nintendo clean up this holiday season, since that way they can leverage one of their strongest IPs and get away with the games being relatively underwhelming. The crowd they want to buy it has no real stake or point of comparison to judge them by, anyway.
I just wish they looked like they had something of value to offer beyond that, but so far what I'm seeing is raising a bunch of red flags - the map appears to be lifted down to the tiles from the Red and Blue Gameboy games - a map that's notoriously barren and uninteresting by modern standards and widely regarded by fans as the least interesting in the franchise; the trainer models hardly look better than they did in Sun and Moon - I'd argue they look worse, despite this running on much stronger hardware; and they've been very quick to point to 2019 for more traditional games, something I don't think they'd be doing so hastily if there was much here for anyone who isn't part of that Pokemon Go demographic they're courting.
I'm thankful they're taking their time on the ostensibly Generation VIII game, though.

So they're main series games, but the next "core games" are to be launched next year.
What... does that mean? What is a main series game then? What separates a main series game from a core game? Do words mean things anymore?
Qui odoratus est qui fecit.I would assume main series means either anything with traditional Pokemon gameplay or anything made by Game Freak, while core just refers to "new region, new Pokemon, new mechanics" deals. If Let's Go's battle system deviates too much from what we're familiar with, then I guess my latter assumption of what mainline means is correct.
...but I want my former assumption to be correct because darn it I want the Orre games to be considered mainline.
>new region, new pokemon, new mechanics
So, would you say then that FRLG, HGSS, and ORAS would not be core games? They recycled old regions, with all Mons from that generation and no real new mechanics to speak of that didn't debut in the main core game set of that gen.
Also, goddammit, when are we going to see those mothatrucking Gen 4 remakes? I want to hear Cyrus' battle theme in glorious orchestration!

Qui odoratus est qui fecit."Core games" are the official term for what fans call the main series. Like how I Vs are officially "individual strengths", E Vs are "base stats", and what we call base stats have no official name because we're not supposed to know about them.
A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.I uh... have they been called core games before? Honestly I never would've considered there to be a difference between core and mainline if they didn't use those terms recently... Have they even said anything to indicate a difference between mainline and core titles besides using the two separate terms? Or did I miss something? Something tells me I'm missing something here...
I don't think the term "main series" has ever been used in official material, it's just a term that gamers imported from similar series with a core set of games and a bigger pile of spinoffs (Final Fantasy being the big example that comes to mind).
A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they will never sit in.I think these are comparable to Colosseum/XD. Mostly the same core gameplay with a few twists. It has a full campaign and multiplayer trading/battling. The real question is if Pokemon from this can be transferred to Bank and the gen 8 games.
Let's Go Eevee and Let's Go Pikachu are Main series games, but obviously has some stuff thats a bit different. It implies the next games will be the more traditional ones we're used to, but this game is also a main series game. This means that even with the lack of wild bttles, these remakes will be MOSTLY mainline mechnics, and the next game will have less of the more experimental changes.
EDIT: anyone got any hot takes to share? here's Arlo's.

I might have skimmed over stuff to confirm this, but according to IGN:
Easy - you make it so that leveling up works like in PoGo (spend candies, no EVs).
EDIT: Also, not quite sure why people (not necessarily here, but I've seen it in other places) are so sure that the surprise 'mon at the end of the trailer is going to be a new Mythical. It just says you'll meet a special Pokemon, not necessarily a new one. Watch it be that Celebi or Jirachi is only obtainable in PoGo via this connection.

Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Honestly it wouldn't surprise me if evolution was done like Go either.
This song needs more love.x2
Because it's been confirmed to be a new, never seen before, Pokemon.
Without wild battles, Pokemon have to gain exp from.trainer fights and catching. Simply increasing how much exp you get from catches would justify it. There's a large amount of options they could go for.
Daycare and other exp options would likely be available as well.

People are lining up the trainer battles shown with the ones in RB and FRLG. And it seems that they have fewer Pokemon at lower levels. May not be indicative of the final game, but I do suspect this is going to be even easier than XY was.
Boo.
Johto is how I came into the game franchise (I played Gold before I ever played a Gen 1 game), so I'm annoyed at this.
One Strip! One Strip!Yeah, Johto is best region, no question.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit.I extremely disagree, but opinions.
All these people are misspelling Sinnoh.
This song needs more love.
Based on my 5-year old's reaction to this, I think the target audience for this is the younger/casual market that was drawn in by Pokémon GO to build on the experience without necessarily weighing it all down by fully tying in with the mainline games. My kid in particular is looking forward to a Pokemon game where I can help her out along the way and we can catch things together (as opposed to now, where I sometimes let her use my phone to catch some of the easier things in the game).
I can see being disappointed if you were expecting the next mainline game, but I totally get what Nintendo is working towards here.
