Okay so after spending way more time thinking about that "to be one with myself I must become two", which is about any amount of time at all, I believe the point they were going for that Justin shouldn't be afraid of Oozaru, for the monster or at least the power he gains from it isn't inherently evil, and can be harnessed and used for good.

Which, you know, is something the manga used with Gohan really well, and in general power up derived from emotional epiphany is a staple of Battle Shonen, problem, besides the awful dialogue, is that Justin just found out he's not!Oozaru like ten minutes ago, and spent most of that time fighting for his life.

It isn't enough time for him to develop a complex over it is me point.

Also this is technically the first use of the Wrathful state introduced in Super Broly, and for some reason that makes me incredibly depressed.

So I've watched some of Geoff's recent videos and is anyone weirded out by the way he talks about fanservice?

I mean at times he metions it with a tone of eye-rolling resignation, which is fair enough.

But other times he mentions how he enjoys it and makes videos of all the ecchi anime he likes, which would also be fine, but when put together with the above it makes him come off as a bit of a hypocrite.

Particularly when he does both in the same video, like he did when talking about One Piece.

But it gave it us Seychelle Gabriel as Asami, so that's cool.

No, Legend of Korra gave us Seychelle Gabriel as Asami. The Last Airbender gave us Seychelle Gabriel as phallic symbol meme.

[up][up]One can enjoy the occasional bit of fanservice while still being bothered by how much the industry overdoes it. For example, finding Scarlett Johansson beautiful doesn't preclude one from being bothered at how Marvel always puts her in Over The Shoulder Poses in every single trailer and promotional image.

There was that Winter Soldier poster that actually edited her waist to look thinner than it actually is.

In one of the art books. One of the creators — can't remember if it was DiMartino or Konietzko — recalled meeting her on the set of the movie and liked her performance enough to ask her to audition for the then-upcoming Legend of Korra.

She actually auditioned for Korra originally, but obviously didn't get that role.

Geoff is still the only major youtuber that talks about Trails Series.

I've heard great things about Trails for years and will probably give Trails in the Sky a proper chance sometime in the future, but Cold Steel is a pass for me on concept alone.

Ys is really good though. Still waiting for a sale to pick up Ys 8.

It's not the fact that it has dating sim elements, but rather the fact that everything I've seen and heard make it look a bit too much like a trashy battle school harem anime, aka a bunch of modern anime trends I'm not that fond of. Maybe that's off-base, and I'm not saying that it's as badly written as those because I haven't played it myself, and I doubt it is if that's been that well-received, just that the premise doesn't really make me want to play it.

I feel the same. Xenoblade 2 probably reaches my limit of modern anime cliches, but it's mixed with old-school anime cliches, so it balances out.

[up][up] Trails of Cold Steel is better played when you play Trails in the Sky first. all the games are interconnected in one big saga. And they are popular because they are subverting a lot of those cliche's you talk about, which aren't all that bad on their, as it all depends on execution.

I would recommend High School DXD for being one of those that does it right, and in an epic way.

[up] Old school anime cliches and new school ones aren't really all that different.

People just think they are because of Nostalgia blindness.

[up][up][up] I can get why you would say that, but I honestly don’t think it’s quite as bad as you might assume to be? For one thing, for all his power, the protagonist is actually something of a Failure Hero.

May I ask what sort of cliches you’re concerned about? Maybe I can offer some reassurance.

Yeah, as a fan of the first game, I lost interest in Xenoblade 2 for a lot of the same reasons. Not that I think the game is bad (again, I haven't played it to judge for myself), just that the more, erm, "otaku-focused" direction is a big turn-off.

[up]I mean, it's totally possible that it's not. I was just explaining why the premise doesn't really appeal to me in comparison to something like Trails in the Sky.

[up] Using surface level observations like that is precisely what the game wants you to think of it at first.

Its the same with almost all the Tales of Games, in that they do the same thing.

Nier did it too, and you love the fuck out of that game, so...

Hell, Trails of the Sky itself also does that, and like I said, it and Cold Steel are all connected in one big saga.

On a different note, has anyone here played Disco Elysium? It seems to be something of a sleeper hit, I haven't seen that many people talking about it either but everyone I have seen talking about it seems to think extremely highly of it.

Doesn't interest me, honestly.

Been Playing Nioh and Nioh 2 for a while. Very fun games, some of the best combat of the past decade, up there with DMC 5 or Bayo 2 for me despite being a souls like Action RPG.

God I love videogamedunkey's video on Xenoblade 2.

Some hilarious ass shit & helps reinforce my decision not to play it. And its not even just about the story or characters but I also just don't wanna deal with the gameplay either.

Using another's opinion to choose what to play will always be dumb, especially if its needlessly inflammatory and obviously biased against JRP Gs like dunkey.
