ITT: We Are All Pirates

"Yarr. I will also join, as long as I keep 50% of the plunder!"

The treasure chest moves awkwardly as the chain with the cannon ball extends and retracts to move the cannon ball in a circular motion, as if its rolling its eyes at the mention of how to open it. The chain on the treasure chest's right side moves around, as if to hint at the skeleton key at the end of it. The key is long and knobby, like finger bones.

Another patron of the tavern walks over to the group, inspecting the box. He has tied back black hair and a scar across his right eye. His left hand is near a long cutlass, his right near a pouch.

"What is the box trying to tell us?" says Boreas. "Does it want us to open it? Is something bad gonna happen? ...I volunteer," he adds with a dark, hollow look in his eyes.

"Also hey" he says to the pirate who just entered.

"No need to volunteer!" Saltine trots over to the chest, grabbing the key on the side and slamming it into the hole, opening it.

The treasure chest opens, the skull lock sliding inside before it falls on top of the horde of treasure inside the chest. One can see gold artifacts, coins, and jewelry from various cultures among them, such a gold figurine from one of the Central or South American ancient civilizations, some Spanish gold coins, a regal golden crown, pearl necklaces trimmed with gold and silver, a large pink diamond, a gold goblet, and various other gold coins and gems.

Curiously, the chest stopped moving.

(Mona and her crew exchange glances at the odd sight.)

I dunno about you, but it sure sounded like something was in that besides treasure. (Beckett remarks.)

You sure there isn't still anything else hiding in it, though? (Roberto asks, coiling up defensively.)

Captain Bronze greedily dived to the chest like a synchronized swimmer.

Boreas is shocked by Captain Bronze's reaction. He isn't sure what to expect from the treasure chest, but just in case, he stands in front of Saltine defensively.

"... Hm?" She looks to Boreas. "What's up? It's just some treasure. It's not even that much..."

That clearly isn't stopping him... (Mona says to Roberto as Captain Bronze dives for the treasure, shaking her head.)

Suddenly, hidden circular panels on the edges of both the top and bottom halves of the lid area slide back and sharp metal teeth pop out of the holes as the lid closes. The wood on top of the chest shifts to form mischievous black eyes with red irises.

"It's... actually kinda cute," says Boreas, with a goofy little smile.

"A MIMIC!" Saltine jumps from Boreas's back and in front of the box. "You're hired!!"

"I'm going to need some help. KAT!"

"The heck do you want? I was trying to take a nap!'

"I need you to kill this monster for me."

Uh...I did not expect that... (Mona says, rather surprised.)

I knew it! (Roberto says.)

What even is that? (Hilo asks.)

The living treasure box rolls its hidden metal tongue around the pirate that rudely jumped inside it before spitting the pirate out, a look of disgust on its face.

Evil Treasure Chest:   BLECH! You taste horrible!   

The treasure chest then turns to the one who gave it a job offer.

Evil Treasure Chest:   Uhh....what's a Mimic?   

"... I see!" Saltine takes a step back. "Nevermind!"

She turns to her new gang. "What shall we do? Our first challenge!"

   "Well, I don't recognize that as any creature I've seen."    Kuro approaches the chest cautiously. "   Well, what are you?''   

Tuva turns to Saltine. So, you're a pirate. Do you have a ship yet? My friend and I could use a lift"

The living chest turns towards Kuro, his deep voice beaming with pride.

Evil Treasure Chest:   Oh, I'm just a treasure assembled by magic. I'm not even a year old yet!   

A pirate wearing a tattered gray cloak enters the bar. His face is covered up by a scarf and a monocle. A variety of mysterious knick-knacks can be spotted poking out of the many pockets in his purple coat. His hat is made of a patchwork of various other hats. He is wearing a set of leather gloves, and not a single part of his skin can be seen through his clothes.

The living treasure chest turns to him.

Evil Treasure Chest:   So you finally arrived, master! Must've been a long tarot card reading you had, huh?   

Monocle Pirate: Yep. Would've been here earlier if it weren't for a troublesome customer I had. So is the cursed treasure still intact while I was gone?

Evil Treasure Chest:   All treasure is accounted for as far as I'm aware of. I spied on the customers of this place looking for anyone who would be wealthy enough to be worth your time, but I'm afraid that they seem to be more or less pirate peasants.   

“What the actual hell...” the patron mumbles under his breath. He watches as the monocled stranger walks in, keeping a hand on his sword hilt.

"Wow, so many people. I hope my social anxiety doesn't set in. I can't go back to jail, not again..."

"Well, aren't we supposed to be hunting for treasure or something?" Boreas says to Saltine.

Just when I thought I had seen everything... (Mona says, shaking her head at the sight of the talking treasure chest.)

Hey, I think it's pretty neat! You don't see a talking treasure chest every day! (Charlotte says to Mona, shrugging.)

Well...let's discuss our next plans, all right? (Mona says.)

(Mona and her crew begin discussing their next move. Mona is noticeably keeping an eye on Saltine's crew. Charlotte keeps glancing over at the treasure chest.)

"Oh, hey new person." says Boreas to the hooded figure.

"This tavern is getting pretty crowded..."
