RE 6's problem is that they clearly had way too many ideas and couldn't develop them all. The story is fine. The Illuminati, Incel Dude, Evil Ada Wong as Sexy Blow Up Doll for Incel Dude, and Ada being framed for it. But you have to play the game like 5 times to understand it.
I love Sherry as a secret agent and her romance.
But the game really should have just been a Leon and Ada game.

Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters. It was too over the top, which is why 7 had to go back to a more intimate setting with a new cast.
Mileena MadnessIt still ended up over the top and hammy though.
- Ethan is a normal human with no combat experience
- Ethan loses a hand
- Ethan manages to beat her mold-powered wife
Much more grounded sure
Uni catI mean they ruined that well before 8 but at least Ethan was just some guy and no secret agent.
Mileena MadnessTBF, most of the RE protagonists don't start out super badass secret agents. Chris, Jill, Rebecca, and Barry were all just regular cops. Okay, cops who were supposed to be part of some special new division but still.
Leon was just a rookie cop on his first day.
Claire was a college student.

Disgusted, but not surprisedI mean, Resident Evil is still B movie horror.
But it's the difference between, "Fright Night is about a vampire in the suburbs"
vs
"Vampires take over Hong Kong in a globe trotting vampire filled adventure."
Author of The Rules of Supervillainy, Cthulhu Armageddon, and United States of Monsters.Man did Dead Island just lifted the models/renders from the games? Jill is so out of place in her R E3make look compared to the others who are in the later games' designs. Rebecca also being awkwardly just touched up from her last CG movie appearance.
And in Resident Evil 7 at least, he was the single most boring protagonist the series has ever had.
I mean Jill and Chris where basically wet bricks with bad voices in the first game. They took awhile to grow. XD
Chris was pretty silly int he original game. There's that awful pun he makes after the Plant 42 setpiece ("So much for him! We got to the ROOT of the problem! Saved again!") and its also the most relatable that Rebecca is in that bit. She only has silence to offer to that pun.
Leon was just a rookie cop on his first day.
Claire was a college student.
Pretty much this. The Resident Evil protag trajectory is that you get to be an Action Survivor for one game. Then, forged in fire, you are a veteran Action Hero in all subsequent appearances.
What made Ethan stand out is that it's been a while since a game's featured a newbie Action Survivor without partnering them with a veteran Action Hero.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Well, you become an Action Hero if they survive the plot for longer than one outbreak at least.
The cast of RE: Outbreak for example have only gotten one cameo in the form of one character getting mentioned in RE 7 and that's pretty much it.
Of course, after having gone through which includes a zoo full of zombified animals, a hospital turned into a hive and NYX, those poor people deserves to never ever get involved with another outbreak ever again. Especially considering how none of them are immune to any of the biohazards like the main cast of this franchise is.
"If there's problems, there's simple solutions."Well, they're immune except when they're not.
Resident Evil is really back and forth about whether virus immunity is a thing. Like. It doesn't talk about it as a plot point. You don't get briefings on how Chris or Leon happens to have the special anti-Tyrant blood-type or whatever that makes them impossible to infect. They just walk around covered in zombie guts and aren't affected by it.
Except when they are, because characters who walk around covered in zombie guts suddenly contracting something and needing to be cured has been a plot point a few different times. So they aren't really immune. They just. Aren't affected by being bit by zombies or covered in zombie gore like you'd think they would be. They can only be infected by plot; Never by gameplay.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.It would be a cool explanation that Jill was immune but the nemesis strain was a lot stronger so she got infected but her immune system is such a badass that she can tank the nemesis t-virus for a while
Uni catOn some level it makes sense. The easiest way to contract the T virus is to get bit and like, nobody is going to be well if a zombie got a munch on their neck or slashed by a claw. So canonically every character manages to do a No-Damage Run through their respective journeys.
#IceBearForPresidentEthan otoh seems like he's got this kind of luck too. Except no, he's not only infected but he's a zombie animated by Mold.
Disgusted, but not surprisedno he got it even worse
He's effectively maimed by Mia and then Jack kills him... on accident
Evelyn: Daddy didn't know his strength
Ethan being infected was the only reason he survived to begin with XD
though Ethan already being infected makes the scene with Jack giving you the first aid make alot more sense

I wonder if Jack was also dead at that point. Jack was an even more impressive specimen than Ethan.
Hell, i'll say Jack is more impressive than Dimitrescu durability wise. Once she's hit with her weakness she just becomes a big dragon that dies from a tiny fall and a couple bullets.
Jack was cured and he still kept going. He had to be put down by someone who's more badass than the average RE protagonist. (his brother lol)

Uni catYeah Joe Baker might be my favorite RE character. He just casts Fist at any and all threats, lol.
He's def a level 20 Barbarian.
To be fair you could argue Evelyn's strain of the mold was modified for military purposes
Hence why she can effectively use a variation of the lords powers minus Not Magneto
Jack and Ethan just happen to have ridiculous reactions to it though Jack unlike Ethan wasn't able to keep his mind since Swamp Man could effectively be called Jack's corpse operating on the only primal desire it has left... Protect Zoey
Margaret and Lucas however don't show the same level of resilience... and Lucas turns into what looks to be the mold take on a Tyrant.
Zoe was clearly having a strange transformation herself.
With Resident Evil's various bioweapons being bioweapons, I want to see a Resident Evil game show us Resident Evil at war.
Like. A full-on action game set in a war-torn region where a Virus faction, Plagas faction, and Mold faction are all bitterly competing for control. Ganados fighting zombies and Mold people throwing down with Tyrants. With BSAA/Blue Umbrella/Whatever sending the protagonists in to try and make this stop being a thing that is happening.
As the game progresses, the factions' monsters begin infecting each other and you start running into shit like Mold Hunters and Plagas Werewolves and shit.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.My fave Resi movie was Damnation specifically because it was an actual Bioweapon-fueled conflict, the thing the games keep telling us everything is leading up to.
And it was Cool vs. Awesome.
Yup. Its not exactly anything new, CERO's been pretty strict on gore and even nonviolent dismemberment on humans for years now (its why Future Gohan's always had both arms up until DBZ Kakarot) but they usually left Resi Evil alone up until the RE engine made things that much more realistic.
To give an example, in the RE 2 make's censored Japanese release, that jaw guy's jaw isn't barely hanging on and Elliot doesn't get outright torn in half.
