Cobra Kai is getting a beat 'em up style video game for PS4, XBox One, and Switch on October 27th.

Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, voiced by original actors Ralph Macchio and William Zabka, will lead playable fighters from their respective dojos through Cobra Kai’s multiple levels, as the trailer below shows. Newcomers Robby, Miguel, and Hawk are also on the eight-character roster. Each fighter will have a skill tree to upgrade, and building out either Miyagi-Do or Cobra Kai is part of the story progression.

Cobra Kai will have more than 28 story missions, with boss fights included (a showdown with the psychopath John Kreese seems inevitable). Players will have to complete both dojos’ story arcs to get to the game’s true conclusion.

Additionally, there's an upcoming mobile game Cobra Kai: Card Fighter on the way as well. Presumingly, this would tie into the Netflix release of the first two seasons coming on August 28th.

First week on Netflix and Cobra Kai is their most viewed show of the week.

I get a lot of people didn’t get Youtube Red (hence it being dissolved) but that’s still very impressive.

There was a list of the all-time most demanded streaming shows and Cobra Kai was on it.

Oddly, so was Star Trek: Discovery and Doom Patrol.

Been watching the first three Karate Kid movies to prepare for this (finding Cobra Kai on Netflix helped but I do wish to watch The Next Karate Kid before proceeding to Cobra Kai) and I do have to ask: think we ought to establish a thread in Live-Action Films for the first four movies given we have for the 2008 remake?

So thanks to my bro, I've ended up bingeing the first season. Currently watching the last ep.

I've looked up how things go for season 2: So Danny and Johnny are both fuck ups who have destroyed both their own lives and the lives of people around them. This is what happens when High School doesn't stay in High School.

[up][up]The writers have said the The Next Karate Kid is canon and rumors are circling of Hilary Swank showing up next season, but nothing in that film is really referenced.

As for a thread, yeah, could make sense.

And now I've finished the second season.

No one's gonna be casting stones in this crowd, because everyone sinned....

That is, unless you want to rename Miguel Stone.

Thread for the first four films established here.

Also, having finished the first two seasons, my takeaways:

1. Johnny having Miguel imagine his enemy (Kyler) as the training dummy, leading to the latter finally increasing the power in his punches being a nod to The Karate Kid Part III (Silver teaching Daniel to do so).

2. Would being accused of theft serve as a Berserk Button for Tory? There's her past involving her mother losing her job for stealing food that was to be disposed off and how her rivalry with Sam started because of how the latter chided the former for stealing vodka, then her mother's wallet...

3. A Freeze-Frame Bonus in the form of Eli/Hawk being surprised that Tory hijacked West Valley High's PA system just to declare that she'll be gunning for Sam in No Mercy.

[up] Though too bad he took Cobra Kai's side instead of diffusing the fight between it and the Miyago-do students as a security guard should have and sticking with Kreese in the end.

Whelp, I just started watching this. Watched season 1 in a single binge. I went in with pretty much zero expectations beyond "lul, 80s nostalgia", and came out out absolutely loving it. This show had absolutely no right to be this good, and yet here it is.

I've checked my country's Netflix and it claims Season 3 will come Friday (generally Jan. 7). What's that about?

[up][up] Thanks. Just finished it.

[up] And I already went through it. The only insight I can provide is on Kreese's mentality, which stemmed from not only being held prisoner by North Vietnamese troops and forced to watch those from his unit forced into fighting each other with the loser fed to snakes in a pitch. And that prior to the mission, his CO hearing that the Betsy Kreese dated prior to joining the US Army had died and kept it from Kreese. All of which led to Kreese adapting the CO's "No Mercy" creed when forced to fight him to prevent another comrade - Terry Silver - from doing so and actually fragging him because the CO finally decided to tell Kreese by claiming he didn't tell him sooner to make him focus on the mission. Which is why he can't move on from the past: with a dead lover and obvious PTSD from Vietnam, Cobra Kai was what Kreese can do and the dojo closing in the original Karate Kid films hurt him.

Much better use of drama compared to season 2. I felt like Daniel's trip to Japan was a bit longer than it needed to be though. Also, having more Miyagi-do magic techniques (pressure points) is groanworthy.

Honestly I think the cast use is the best it's ever been right now. Unlike in season 2, I don't feel like any character is overused.

Also, I'm not sure how to feel about the retcon they did concerning the second movie.Ali crashing the car and dumping him for a UCLA guy wasn't what happened. She just met a friend and Danny got insanely jealous, and she didn't crash the car.One one hand, the breakup was really dumb, but on the other, putting it all on Daniel kind of feels wrong.

Eh, I think it's all right. everyone basically admits they all kinda messed up there. Anyway, finished the season. Man, how many all out karate gang fights is this series going to have. Also, are we still seeing Tory as the good guy in her rivalry with Sam due to Unintentionally Unsympathetic, or have we switched, cause Tory has arguably escalated things well beyond their initial beef.

Funny thing, I actually get why Robby is where he is. He showed mercy to Miguel, and got hurt for it. He tried to break up the school fight and got jumped by the same dude who sucker punched him before. His girlfriend seemingly dumped him for that same guy, his dad and teacher have failed him time and time again....he's made his own mistakes (only working with Daniel to get back at Johnny, and not admitting that Miguel was the one who brought back the medal), but still...

Kreese jumped on all of that....but even he has his own issues, as his own flashbacks show. But hopefully Johnny and Daniel can finally work together and truly break the cycle.

*looks back to the top of Page 2 and reads all my comments.* Wow, this happened with Tory? Who would've predicted that following Cobra Kai's mindset would lead to this? ...Man, literally everything I wrote about throughout that translated into season 2 and 3.

I admit, I'm surprised that Kreese really does have the background of an 80s action movie character. I fully expected him to be a liar about everything and just a sadistic bully from the get go.
