This show has like 0 resemblance to the original She ra,I remember how Younger Me felt that She ra was an inferior show to the main parent show He-man
New theme music also a boxIn Name Only. That's part of why there was so much heat directed towards this show when it first came out.
Oissu!Season 1 was pretty weak, and I'd argue Season 3 (as in second half of 2) is when it finally found its footing. But overall the show turned out pretty good, yeah.
That being said, I do hope fans of the old She-Ra get some bones thrown their way one day too. I know the pain of having the show you loved get adaptations that have nothing to do with the source after decades of waiting. Except Reboot The Guardian Code is a fucking atrocity.

Oissu!Eh, I'm not sure if I'd call it 100% In Name Only. I'd put in on the same level as Iron Man Armored Adventures: general characters and premise is there but all characters are heavily changed. Heck, many lesser-known MCU characters are on a similar level (Eternals, Some of Guardians, Pyms...) But like compared to Mega Man Fully Charged, Sonic Underground or Reboot Guardian Code it's not that insane.
Basically, it's She-Ra with all characters being relatable quirky teens/young adults, even villains (except few parental figures) with She-Ra no longer having a secret identity, there being some ongoing secret backstory with First Ones and Runestones, and generally, everyone is much more reformable and gay.

It's someone getting the toys from the original and telling their own story with it. And swapping out some of the shittier toys for better ones (the original planned version of Double Trouble is pretty lame. She never appeared in anything IIRC, but the design ain't great.)
Kevin Smith kinda did the same thing with his He-Man show where the point was like, how he would take the story, immediately breaking the status quo to do something more engaging with it. The main difference is that his show is explicitly a follow-up, She-Ra was a full reboot.

Not Three Laws compliant.but no dragons!
no doom berry pie,no She ra crying over Hordak so he does'nt vanish forever (Catra made the pie)
New theme music also a boxI mean, let's face it, can you expect in 2018 show that goes exactly like something from 1985?
Not exactly the same, no, but from what I remember He-Man fans really liked the 2002 show and thought it was a good adaptation. I doubt She-Ra fans would complain if they got something similar to that.
Oissu!Honestly, I've only seen screenshots of OG She-ra, and I can already safely say that SPOP is superior purely on the basis that each character actually looks unique instead of literally the exact same woman in a slightly different set of clothes.
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes.I think is intersting Shadow weaver did a sacrifice when she is by far the more petty and selfish person.
"There is a difference between self-sacrifice for a cause or a person you truly believe in and self-sacrifice for something that has been imposed on you. "
The diferent between one and the other often is dificult to see.
And about catra, I havent finish the whole thing but I can get why is a dificult subject, Catra can be....unpleasent at times.
The best way for me is someone fused Azula and Zuko into one being.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Reminder that the best way to think of Catra is that she's a housecat, with all the benefits and disadvantages that come with one. Very loving to the person she likes, an asshole to those she doesn't, never forgets a slight and carries that grudge forever.
The OG female characters had the exact same bodies so that Mattel didn't have to use a different body mold for different character dolls. They just changed the heads and accessories.
Exactly. At the end of the day, OG She-Ra was primarily trying to sell a toy line. SPOP, by contrast, actually wants to tell an actual story with depth and character.
Shamelessly plugging my comics, Oh yes.Just because the main goal is to sell toys doesn't necessarily mean a story will suck. Friendship is Magic was also supposed to sell toys. There were some very seasoned writers in the OG She-Ra cast.
Both He-Man and She-Ra having to not have a definitive conclusion I'd say hurt both shows more than the shows being there to sell merch.

Oissu!@Resileafs I've seen this comparison many times and while fitting it does jack squat to justify your actions. She's a person not a goddamn pet.
Also, Catra is also terrible to people she likes.
She's a person with some very pet-like traits and behaviors, though. That's not really something you can ignore.
Optimism is a duty. That sounds racist. Specist?
Maybe Scorpia should just betray everyone for no reason because she's a scorpion.
Very funny. But you know it is true. She behaves like a cat in many ways.
You bring up an interesting point, though: she seems to be the only animal cross who does so. It's probably because people are so familiar with the behavior of cats, while they wouldn't really know what a sentient lizard or scorpion would be like.
Also, I'm pretty sure Scorpia accidentally reflexively stung someone once.
Optimism is a duty.she seen very clumsy and very self away of her clumsiness so....yeah I can see it.
What she clearly dosent have is scorpion terrible eye sight.
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Well, ND Stevenson herself has noted that while Catra is complex character, she's also literally just a cat.
I assure you, I'm a completely trustworthy person.....Now I just imagine Adora resolving the whole plot by spraying catra with water saying "No catra, bad, stop hurting people".
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"Spraying cats doesn't actually teach them to behave better, just to fear getting caught.
So that is what shadow weaver did.....
"My Name is Bolt, Bolt Crank and I dont care if you believe or not"
So how does this incarnation compare to the original? Are there many parallels, or does this show basically do its own thing?
Optimism is a duty.
