Skypeia has a lot going for it. It technically introduced Blackbeard. It was also the first appearance of the poneglyphs and the introduction of Dials and IIRC it was the start of Merry's eventual destruction. But Enel is totally unconnected to the story's myth arc and is removed from the story with little fanfare after he's defeated, only appearing in side stories where he gets everything he ever wanted, so I can see how he might not be as popular as other villains.

On Skypeia, my own personal problem was that it drags in the fights. There are highlights, but then there's also the ball man and the fat guy who fights by being fat. The anime exacerbated this with its drawn out pacing.

Something that sticks out in my mind particularly well was Luffy getting stuck in the snake. Luffy always gets stuck in the Luffy box. It happens every story. But the anime mafe it so much worse. And I swear the anime had him stumbling around in or trying to escape from the snake's belly multiple times every episode. So the show felt like it was spinning its wheels quite a bit.

@Eagal The first appearance of Poneglyphs was during Arabasta, not Skypiea.

Ha. Emily Rudd did a short Q&A on her Instagram. Most of it was just standard questions about season one, or how much she's looking forward to a certain character we'll be meeting in season two. But one of her answers was such a One of Us answer.

"What was your favorite moment in the Alabasta arc?"

"Gum Gum No Way."

That is to say, the gag where Luffy is playing keep away from Usopp with the mug of Yuba water.

Taz did an interview where he talked about season 2:

"I know they’re working on it," he said. "I know we have general dates so as to when we are going back to South Africa, which isn’t too long from now."

The actor further teased that the stories for season 2 are "really cool", elaborating: "I love the way that they’re adapting it, I love what they’re doing with each one of our characters.

"We all as a cast, as a team, as a crew, we are so excited to get back together, because the first time was such a great experience and we made so many great friends.

"And we love South Africa, so we all can’t wait to go back there this year and hopefully knock it out of the park again."

I have a minor concern about a certain character in Season 2.

I hope they don't change Mr. 2 Bon Clay too much. I get they're probably going to tone them down a bit, but I really hope they don't do to them what they did to Gren in Live-Action Cowboy Bebop. That is, take a queer character with a well-established unique personality and replace it with the stock Hollywood "sassy Gay Best Friend" archetype. Please let Mr. 2 Bon Clay be themself, let them be a flamboyant, eccentric, annoying, loud weirdo who is kinda off-putting at first but grows on you over time.

I think even more than just "Listen to Oda's criticism" the series bible has this as their biggest rule: "DO NOT under ANY circumstance do what Cowboy Bebop did in its remake."

...But alas, its April Fools Day.

Except its a double fool, because the Little Garden arc is confirmed by the joke drawing at the end.

More specifically, dinosaurs are confirmed. They could have just done Little Garden with Dorry and Broggy but cut out the dinosaurs. Glad they're keeping them. Even if Little Garden is probably only going to be 1 episode, those dinosaurs will make up 50% of the CGI budget for the whole season by themselves.

[up][up] I am surprised by you saying this. I am not a EW NO CHANGES PLZ fan but the whole point of Little Garden is that creatures that have been extinct for a LONG TIME live there as in Dinosaurs and other readily able to tell they are currently extinct creatures. I think what I would have expected is to have all the dinosaurs minimized and just Coconut Powers, as in have the cheapest tricks to include them.

I know the REAL point of the arc IS Dorry and Broggy but still.

This season is gonna be a test for the show, really. Once you enter the Grand Line, things just start getting progressively weirder, so if they can't get Little Garden right, might as well give up now.

Wake me up at your own risk.

Considering how much places they jump into the Alabasta saga, I would say this season will probably the most difficult to produce until you know… the disc one finale.

I wonder if Buggy will be involved in the main story this season outside of what is likely the Loguetown opener. Risk of overcrowding but they set Buggy up in the season one finale.

Wonder if Ace will tag along for a portion of Alabasta too like the anime to know him better

I don't see Ace's screentime in Alabasta extending past one episode. The question is, will he leave Alabasta shortly after showing up, or will he leave at the end of the episode?

South Africa has jungles, icy mountains and deserts, so it is perfectly possible for them to find locations for all the islands that should be in season 2 there. Probably a big reason why they chose South Africa as their filming location in the first place.

I think the biggest challange will come in season 3, a propper adaptation of Skypia would require a shitload of special effects for large parts of it.

Considering how massive the fighting in the final part of Alabasta is, I think the logistics alone will be more difficult than Skypeia. At least in Skypeia, the VX doesnt have to consider a massive war

Also, I hope Robin joining at the end is moved before them raising the X in their arms. Perfect image to go out of the season with otherwise

There is nothing Robin being there would add to Vivis farewell since she would have no personal connection to her whatsoever.
