Also the IDEA of doing Steel and Catwoman (WITH SELINA KYLE that is) films isn't bad actually. It's just that the execution of both was godawful.
About that last update...?
Tom Holland may not be appearing as Spidey, but rather as Peter Parker.
Reminds me of what they did in a Fantastic Four cartoon, where Johnny hires a photographer that’s clearly Peter Parker, but he never gets to say his name or change into costume on-screen.
Apparently some of the writers from Spider-Man Homecoming have been tapped to write a solo Flash film.
I bring this up because I totally misinterpreted "Flash" and got excited thinking they were doing a movie about Flash Thompson's enlistment and service in the United States Army, inspired by Spider-Man to do good.
I was like, "Dude. They're doing a Venom movie and a Flash movie; this can only be leading up to AGENT VENOM!!!"
Nope. DC's Flash. Honest mistake.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.A superhero war film focusing on the character before they became the superhero?
That sounds unique and thus a terrible idea for modern day film.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!First trailer is coming with Black Panther later this month.

Reposting from the MCU thread:
Somewhat related:
And cue the rumors that Disney will buy the entirety of Sony's entertainment division in 3...2...—
(narrowly dodges a spear)
Ah, I see, this is the part where you guys are like "HA HA HA—No."
...Shutting up now.

Mileena MadnessI'm not sure what if anything this has to do with the Venom movie. Like the Fox merger, even if this happens it would take several years to be finalized and go through.
EDIT: oops

It look pretty... generic? Like, we don't even have a shot of Brock in the costume and there's not a whole lot in the teaser that really screams "This is a Venom movie". Granted, they probably don't have a lot of finished effects shots of Venom to work with, but I'm not particularly hyped right now.
I'd argue that maybe it's like how the trailer for Jaws didn't really show the shark to build anticipation for the shark...
...but then again, this isn't made by anyone from the MCU, so my hype level for this film isn't particularly high as of now either. Perhaps if the next trailer actually had Venom or at least a Tom Holland cameo as rumored, it might be a little higher.
It's not a trailer, guys. It's a teaser, because Hollywood. Teasers are basically trailers for trailers. They exist to say, "This is a concept that's being made. There will be a trailer for it later. GET HYPED FOR THE TRAILER TO COME."
As teasers go, this actually has a lot more than we usually get. Like, there was actually a shot of the symbiote. Half the time, teasers are just some badass music with a title card.

My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.This thing is not going over well on the internet. A lot of unfavorable Fan4stic comparisons. They really should've waited to show something more substantial.
I get that but even beyond not showing Venom, I don't feel teased at all. Especially when you compare it to the Deadpool 2 one that just came out.
I guess my problem is that if you're not going to show off anything unique about the movie, why not wait and blow everyone away?

This song needs more love. That's my view as well. It's not like people were demanding a Venom trailer right now and they didn't even need to have it ready for the Super Bowl.
The Deadpool 2 thing that just came out was a full trailer. This was their teaser:
They later followed it up with a second teaser:
And only after that did they release the awesome trailer we have now.
My Tumblr. Currently liveblogging Haruhi Suzumiya and revisiting Danganronpa V3.Okay I was wrong about that but I think you may have just proven my point regardless. Those teasers are both way better than the Venom one.
This song needs more love. Those teasers have an actual personality and are entertaining in and of themselves.
All I get from this Venom teaser is "generic Hollywood action movie that has Venom in it".
They also actually had Deadpool in them. Seriously. Even a Jump Scare at the end with Brock in the Venom suit. Something.

It's not 1996 anymore. I'm not sure anybody really wants a Venom movie at all, but I'm almost positive that they don't want a supernatural/psychological In Name Only thriller adaptation of the property that doesn't even have the symbiote in it. That might not be what the final movie is going to be, but that's sure what it looks and sounds like right now.

For it to be Catwoman Tom's character would be called something stupid like Morally Gray.
