Wouldn’t the proper way of threatening someone be a church abstinence videos?

I found the second epiosde of Musical Splainin a lot more chaotic and unstructured, with everyone talking over each other and constantly switching subjects. I hope they get a little better at that.

I mean, episode 1 was mostly Lindsay trying (and failing) not to laugh.

Honestly, I kinda hope that Jenny becomes a regular rather than just a special guest. She has good chemistry with the other two.

From my understanding it's because she sees it as a movie created purely out of spite, rather than the Affectionate Parody types she prefers. I think Shrek has it's own themes and story that do more than just mock Disney, but it's easy to see how she can take that away from the movie.

One issue I always had with Shrek (the first one anyway) was it enforced the impression that adult animation has to have vulgar humor to be enjoyable.

With all the memes about women choosing a bear over a man, Hollywood might wanna get on an 'East of the Sun and West of the Moon' adaptation

[up][up] I kind agree with her tbh after reading DisneyWar and about the strains between Michael Eisner, Disney's Chairman/CEO at the time, and Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chairman of Walt Disney Studios - they did not leave amicably, and a matter of payment that had been promised to Katzenberg was dragged through the courts for years while Eisner stubbornly refused to give in, even though it was an open and shut case in favour of Katzenberg. There are many obvious digs towards classic Disney in Shrek, and given the history of how Dreamworks was established and the deep antipathy Katzenberg no doubt felt towards his previous company, it's hard to see the digs in a charitable light. The rumour is that Lord Farquaad was modelled after Eisner, and made so short because Eisner at 6'3" was much taller than Katzenberg at 5'0", and reportedly once said "I think I hate that little midget". And Katzenberg is totally the type to hold a grudge.

I don't like Shrek either. I don't have fancy reasons for not liking it, I just don't think it's all that funny. I also don't think it has aged well at all. By now, it feels more like a relic of the early 2000s than the classic people hail it as.

It's super dated, that's the drawback of putting an absolute ton of pop culture references into it. It worked well at the time, but the further away you move away from it, the more solidly set in the early 2000s it becomes.

Well, Shrek 2 is a pretty clear case of Even Better Sequel in almost every way. It's still dated by its pop culture references, and it's still Katzenberg, but he might have vented out some of his toxins by then or something...

Shrek was popular in part because it was both a proper challenger to the Pixar/Disney CGI revolution and because it was also incredibly "hip" with the fractured fairy tale angle, celebrity cast and heavy use of pop music. It's also a pretty decent movie and quite funny. But being so hip also exaggerated how quickly dated it became (the more realistic CG could hit the Uncanny Valley, not to mention being the start of the Dreamworks Face), in addition to Seinfeld Is Unfunny as it had trouble keeping up with its own formula in later movies.

Huh so that Mortal Instruments series was originally Draco Malfoy fan-fics.

Oh shit man I just realized I did serial numbers filed off fan-fiction. When I was a kid & teen I was constantly coming up with stories & drawings for these characters I made up that were straight up rip-offs of the Justice League. The main character was even a Deathstroke/Deadpool lite called Deadzone & another character is literally Hawkgirl only in full armor & sword instead of a mace.

I’m now I’m sad because all the stuff I wrote became unreachable because the files were both trapped on my old computer that stopped working & got lost forever after I lost the hard drive they were on. sad

Years of work gone & I had made a pretty expansive mythos at that point. Sure it was most likely mostly crap but still I devoted time throughout middle to high school to working on it.
