"Legends. Stories scattered through time. Mankind has grown quite fond of recounting the exploits of heroes and villains, forgetting so easily that we are remnants, byproducts, of a forgotten past."

"Man, born from dust, was strong, wise, and resourceful, but he was born into an unforgiving world. An inevitable darkness - creatures of destruction; the creatures of Grimm - set their sights on man and all of his creations. These forces clashed, and it seemed the darkness was intent on returning man's brief existence to the void."

"However, even the smallest spark of hope is enough to ignite change, and in time, man's passion, resourcefulness, and ingenuity led them to the tools that would help even the odds. This power was appropriately named Dust."

"Nature's wrath in hand, man lit their way through the darkness, and in the shadow's absence came strength, civilization, and most importantly, life."

"But even the most brilliant lights eventually flicker and die, and when they are gone... darkness will return."

"So you may prepare your guardians, build your monuments to a so-called 'free world', but take heed... there will be no victory in strength."

No victory in strength? Clearly, you haven't seen ours!

Welcome to Atlas. Each and everyone of you has the potential to become a Huntsman or Huntress, guardians of peace and order in our world of Remnant.

However, no matter what your potential, it is completely useless if you do not have the discipline to handle it. And that is why you are here. Atlas will hone you, guide you and teach you. You will learn to harness your potential and turn it into strength. You will be provided with the best education, best tactics, the best weapons. And when your studies are complete, it will be the time to give back. To protect our world. The mission of every Huntsman and Huntress.

But be forewarned, this is not a regular combat school. Atlas is for the best of the best. You must prove yourself, better yourself every day. Do not grow complacent.

With that said, let the school year begin. I hope to see some of you as an Atlesian Specialist in the near future.

- General James Ironwood, headmaster of Atlas Academy.

Hello, there! This is a roleplay set in the world of Rooster Teeth's RWBY. As you can see up there, we're moving away from Beacon and Vale and up north to the mighty Kingdom of Atlas.

Here are a few things to take note of before we start.

  • This is an AU of sorts to canon RWBY, although the world and backstory itself is almost identical. That is to say, while the Schnee Dust Company and the White Fang exist, don't expect to see canon characters running around.
  • Worldbuilding is allowed, but only for small things. New Grimm is fine. Small villages outside the kingdoms are fine. Lesser combat schools are fine. Companies and corporations are fine. But try to turn Vale into a gladiator pit and you are out of luck. Try to keep things closer to canon. All worldbuilding will be posted in the Discussion Thread...and will need thorough GM approval.
  • This roleplay does not share any backstory, worldbuilding, or lore with the previous Welcome To Beacon roleplays. This is a clean slate. For anyone coming in from W 2 B, I am not stopping you from importing your characters but please keep that in mind. I am also requesting you to at least modify them slightly.

Okay! Character sheets!

  • Name:
  • Gender:
  • Age: Typically 17, maybe a bit older. Absolutely no early acceptances like Ruby.
  • Race: Human or Faunus.
  • Appearance:
  • Weapons and Equipment: Go wild. This is RWBY, after all! Make a lightsaber that turns into a cannon if you want to, I'm not limiting you!
  • Semblance: Please keep it balanced. Also, since Semblance is tied to Aura, you really should not have something that'll drain your soul the first time you use it...
  • Other skills: Cooking, cleaning, boxing, art etc...
  • Personality:
  • Bio:

One last thing, this RP has a flat slot count of at least 8 and at maximum 12.

Counting myself, I need 7-11 more players.

Alright, then, have fun~!

Since I'm an indecisive fellow and have to sheets waiting in the wings...I'm gonna let the GM decide on which one to use. It'll be a bit longer before the second one is ready though.

  • Name: J Lansel. No. The J isn't for James.
  • Gender: Male.
  • Age: 18
  • Race: Human.
  • Appearance: More or less.
  • Weapons and Equipment: Lohengrin - An ornamental longsword that faintly radiates light, there isn't much to say about it as the only real purposes it has are for fighting in melee range, resonating with Lansel's Aura (and as such, it's at least quite effective against Grimm) and...reflecting lasers.

    • Partition: A sleek, almost futuristic-looking handgun, the firearm doesn't use conventional ammo but energy. Depending on how much it's charged up results in two different firing modes, rapid-fire bolts at a rate you wouldn't expect from a handgun, with the rounds being a bit more inclined to aim towards a target if he rebounded off them with his semblance...or something more interesting and more effective against semblance/Aura using opponents as the alternate mode fires one concentrated blast that does very little damage, but disrupts the target's flow of Aura and ability to manipulate it. ...Or in simpler terms, makes it difficult for the foe to use their semblance effectively, although this feature is something he avoids if at all possible...and how it actually works is something he's keeping to himself. Apparently, there is one more firing mode, but Lansel claims he hasn't tested it much since arriving in Atlas.

    • L.I.L.I: Hiii...~! Master Ja- Lansel's Assistant at your service...! Specifications: Combat Assistant Drone, programmed with GPS, 400 Meter Radius Radar, no on-board weaponry, enchanced targeting systems to assist with aim... *pauses* ...Sub-Weapon Shift Systems are offline. Aw.

  • Semblance: Photon Rush/Kinetic Recharge - Having much less Aura compared to the average person along with a threshold to match on how much his body can handle at once, Lansel's ability to use his semblance is...complicated to say the least but has at least figured out how to make due with what he has. Temporarily making his body's density/state to photons of light, Lansel rockets forward like a laser, bouncing off surfaces to store kinetic energy and coming to a stop after two seconds or hitting his intended target...which does practically no damage and makes him vault of the target and hover in the air as his semblance wears off. How much kinetic energy he stored up during his charge is the amount of energy that's converted and loaded into Partition.

  • Other Skills: Terrifyingly intelligent, trained in swordplay and capable of programming machinery from the simplest AI to more complex devices, he's a bit of a tinkerer and good at drawing up design, but not so great at building it. He's an alright chef and brews a mean cup of tea. Or coffee, if need be.

  • Personality: Serious, sharp and somewhat snarky at his worst, Lansel isn't one to muck about, being...rather blunt and focused on the task of hand. Behind the focused and almost chilly exterior is a young man who's secretly happy to be at Atlas and acts like an aloof, but caring older brother. Acting...like an idiot is a good way to irritate him and making the young man go near fire is something he's considerably uncomfortable with. He's also inexplicably British.

  • Bio: There isn't much to say about Lansel that ISN'T classified. The most information that's common knowledge is having some connection to the authorities as some sort of detective and having the mannerisms of one belonging to the upper-class. His presence at Atlas is assumed to be more along the lines of 'officially sanctioned' training, but no-one's entirely sure.

  • Name: Irene "The Attacker" Blaze
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 17
  • Birthday: Tempestas 8th
  • Race: Panther Faunus
  • Appearance: Burning like her veins are filled with nothing but gasoline.
  • Weapons and Equipment: Ignis Noctis: Irene's weapon of choice, a most unusual hybrid of a guitar with a chainsaw and a Fire Dust-powered flamethrower. What it lacks in long range, it makes up for in devastating melee and close-range attack power, able to barbaque Grimm or rip and tear them as Irene sees fit. Her brother Cody helped in the construction of this weapon prior to his passing.
  • Semblance: Burning Blood Boost: Irene can use some of her Aura to temporarily give herself a massive speed and power boost while also covering her entire body in fire, with a time limit of roughly 15 seconds. She has to take a 5-minute cooldown in between each usage, and cannot use it too many times in a row or else it will drain her Aura like nobody's business.
  • Other Skills: Guitar-playing, bit of singing, some self-taught engineering and pyrotechnics knowledge, parkour, street-fighting, and cooking.
  • Personality: Hot-blooded, passionate, and bearing a will of solid steel, Irene Blaze is a young lady who's out to prove herself and stand as a fine Huntress in her own right. She's quite determined and refuses to take shit from anybody, and cannot stand being treated as lesser just for who she is. However, Irene does harbor a slight hero-worship of her brother, along with a minor inferiority complex compared to him, which in part stems from her desire to live up to his wish for her to succeed in her dreams.
  • Bio:
    • Fate has not always dealt the kindest hand to this feline fire-wielding Faunus. Growing up with only her older brother Cody to raise her after their parents died when they were young, the two could only rely on each other as they dealt with harsh life on the streets and the racism that came with being a pair of Faunus kids. That rough lifestyle though eventually gave rise to a desire in both of them to be something more, to be Hunters and pull themselves out of the gutter. So the two of them worked to make themselves combat-fit in the junkyard they called home, where they also crafted their weapons from the scraps they found. When the two were old enough to both go to Atlas Academy, however, they only had enough money to pay for one of them to take the entrance exam, and they agreed that Cody should be the one. He passed, and fortunes seemed to be turning around for the Blaze siblings.
    • Tragedy struck, however, when Cody ended up being shot and killed while his Aura was down, only two months before he was set to go to Atlas. With his dying breaths, he gave Irene his beloved sunglasses to remember him by, and told her to succeed in whatever she might do, as his dying wish. The grief-stricken Irene was then offered by the academy a chance to take the entrance exam herself to potentially take the enrollment spot her brother would have had (as she literally only just met the age cutoff date), and she ended up passing as well. With her weapon Ignis Noctis in hand and her brother's sunglasses on her head, she's not letting anything stand in the way of her becoming a Huntress, in loving memory of her dear brother.

  • Name: Flann Walsh
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 17
  • Race: Faunus (Stoat/Ermine)
  • Appearance: Fluffy. Flann is 5'2", with white hair. Her eye color is red. She typically wears a bulky, fur-lined white overcoat with red trims.
  • Weapons and Equipment:
    • Bolg: A rocket spear with a barb-shooting explosive tip. A complex mechanism keeps a roll of nearly invisible wire connected between Flann and the handle of the spear. The wires form a complicated network sewn into her clothes that supports her entire body. The spearhead unfolds into barbs, allowing it to clamp to a surface tightly or break free (sometimes explosively)—to both pull Flann to it or free itself and return to her side.
    • Duban: A shield also connected to Flann by a wire. One trigger detonates Bolg's barbs. The other causes Duban to give off a forcefield. Pressed at the right time before receiving a strike, Duban can throw an opponent off balance or disarm a lesser prepared one. By pressing the trigger down with her foot, Flann can ride a frictionless Duban a few inches from the ground like a hoverboard—useful for snowboarding down (and up) the Atlesian alps.
  • Semblance: Flann's Semblance allows her to change her own personal gravitational direction. The force of gravity cannot change, so Flann falls up or sideways with the same acceleration and terminal velocity as she does normally. Flann uses her weapon to compensate for this weakness.
  • Other Skills: Very little. Flann can't cook beyond roasting what she hunts.
  • Personality: Flann has a low energy personality. She is obedient, prone to daydreaming, and has a strange sense of humor. Almost like a trance, Flann's personality changes in battle. She fights wordlessly and aggressively, not even breaking her characteristic dreamy expression, and her reflexes and reaction times increase dramatically. It was this quality that made her Umbra's favored pupil. Flann is a bit of a prodigy—but at the expense of nearly everything else.

  • Bio:
    • Flann is a feral child the famed Atlesian Huntress Umbra Walsh found in the alps, seemingly separated from her home village. Umbra had intended to hand Flann over to the foster system, but despite the initial impression that Flann had a lacking personality, Umbra saw a spark in Flann's eyes that she had a hunch would make a good Huntress some day, and so she adopted Flann.
    • Together with her foster-brother Lonan Walsh, Flann trained under Umbra's tutelage. Though both were highly talented and very easily trained, Flann showed a bit more promise than Lonan, which led to inevitable comparisons and a festering jealousy.
    • Umbra, known for her harsh training regimen, organized an exercise in which Lonan and Flann would strike out together in the alps to hunt down a Grimm of their choosing and record the results. Rather than adhere to the rules, though, Lonan lashed out at Flann and split up to hunt a Grimm on his own.
    • Flann wasn't ready for what she found that day, and neither was Lonan. Flann encountered an arctic Mountain Ursa—almost twice the size of Vale's Ursa Major—and barely survived. Lonan soon arrived to help, and in the struggle he and the Mountain Ursa fell off a cliff. Flann never saw Lonan again.
    • Years later, Umbra left to deal with business of her own and sent a listless Flann to Atlas Academy to continue her training without Umbra. To this day, both Umbra and Flann are looking for any sign that Lonan survived his encounter with the Mountain Ursa.

  • Name: Hope Diamant, prefers just Dia. Sometimes she writes it as DIA because it makes her seem more important and powerful.
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 17
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: With a single silver stripe on the left side of her head through her deep blue hair. (Change hair color in pictures to deep blue, obviously)
  • Weapons and Equipment: Aside from a pair of trusty and throwable combat knives that she knows her way around, Dia has but one weapon—
    • Sapphire Stand: Dia's pride and joy, a 6' high robot that's neurally linked to her via a cybernetic spinal implant, allowing her to see and hear through it. Now she has something that she believes can move as fast as her brain does, and it packs a mean metal punch, too. It's bizarrely powered by Ice and Wind Dust, and can utilize it in some ways without fully draining power aside from allowing the weapon to fly. Said uses include creating frozen constructs, selectively freezing objects by touch, firing thin but powerfully cutting beams, or sending out area-of-effect blasts of freezing power to incapacitate Dia's foes or blow them away with air. Sapphire Stand cannot be more than 40 feet away from its user.
  • Semblance: Subtle Hand of the Queen — Dia can affect nonliving objects without another's Aura channeled through them and make them invisible and/or intangible. For the most part, this is how she moves Sapphire Stand around, but it has plenty of utility while not being directly dangerous for anyone. The more mass she has to affect, the greater the effort she has to expend.
  • Skills: In accordance with her family's tradition, Dia is well-trained in combat of most conventional sorts and Dustcraft. Aside from that, she has the skills sufficient for living on her own and can play the piano with proficiency.
  • Personality:
    • Dia is quite a confident and self-assured young woman on first impression, and looking deeper into that...well, it's about the same. Dia is a proud member of the Diamant household and gladly takes up the tradition of becoming a superior warrior who will stand out as a cut above the rest. However, there is a part of her that acts the way she does because she wants to stand out in her own unique way compared to the rest of her family, and she loathes the notion of being "like" anyone else other than herself.
    • She absolutely hates imperfection and incompleteness, and she is quick to correct and berate to see it removed from others. And despite her usual prim and proper appearance, Dia is not afraid to get her hands dirty if she has to. After all, she made Sapphire Stand mostly by herself.
    • Dia is a proud Atlesian citizen, quick to call her kingdom the greatest of the four despite its relative youth due to its power, influence, and wealth, all things that she intends to have for herself as well. She may not be becoming a Huntress or a Specialist after graduating from Atlas for fully right reasons, but at least she intends to help people for now.
  • Bio: The Diamant family long distinguished themselves as warriors in every way even before the Great War. In its aftermath the clan moved to Atlas and became one of its prominent families, with connections to military technology and Dust research. Dia is the latest in a long line now, but she made a radical step forward with the creation of a weapon that seemed to do the fighting for her. Everyone disapproved, but a quick duel against her oldest brother without it and using only her twin daggers did plenty to convince her parents that she was working to perfect both body and mind, and so allowed her to enroll for Atlas.

  • Name: Dolores Gray

  • Gender: Female

  • Age: 17

  • Race: Hawk Faunus

  • Appearance: Here.

  • Weapons and Equipment: Focaccina is a shield formed when the tops of two rifles come together

    • Chocolate Chip is a silver rifle with dark brown accents, which fires kinetic Dust rounds with no elemental augments.

    • Blueberry is a golden rifle with blue accents. It shoots a beam that is triggered by combining various Dust crystals within the barrel for multiple effects.
      • Violet: Lightning Dust
      • Blue: Ice Dust
      • Red: Fire Dust

  • Semblance: Hawkeye is Dolores's Semblance. With this, she can scan the Aura and Biology of an opponent, and be able to know where she can hit them for the maximum amount of damage. Her eyes glow yellow while her semblance is active. This does not affect her own reaction time or reflexes. She must still manually aim and hit said target. If she manages to do a correct hit to the weak point, a trail of lighting will follow the bullet. This lightning doesn't do damage, but it could light a dark room briefly.

  • Other skills: Cooking

  • Personality: Ironically enough for the girl whose name means "Sorrow", Dolores is kind, sweet, and mellow, especially towards those she cares about. Usually, she is very clumsy, to the point her friends jokingly and affectionately call her "The Human Disaster". She can be a bit ditzy as well, often having her head in the clouds. In the battlefield, she seems to change, as she has natural and honed instincts for battle. In combat, she is efficient, calculating. She admires the grand legacy of Hunters and has made it her life's goal to be the best Huntress she can be, a goal she pursues with all her heart. As a side note, she loves muffins. Perhaps TOO much.

  • Bio: Her parents were distinguished hunters, but after an incident that had her eyes face different directions, they sheltered her, as they didn't want their little girl getting hurt. After helping a childhood friend evade a Grim long enough for the Hunters to destroy it, she decides she wants to become a hunter to help protect the innocent. She taught herself with twin rifles Chocolate Chip and Blueberry and enrolled herself into Lux Academy in secret to learn more about being a hunter. When her parents found out, she told her how much this meant to her, they begrudgingly agreed. Her natural affinity in hunting and high scores in class allowed her to be enrolled at 16, as her birthday was 2 weeks into the period.

  • Name: Garret King
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 18
  • Race: Human.
  • Appearance: Nothing up my sleeve
  • Weapons and Equipment:
    • Ace: Garret's bowler hat happens to have a razor sharp steel brim and works quite effectively as a chakram in a pinch. Has a tendency to return to Garret's hands through use of...
    • Sleight and Cold: Garret's gloves. Full of all sorts of surprises, Sleight (the right glove) contains a powerful electromagnet which is essentially tuned to only react to the brim of Ace. Sleight also contains a small fire dust flamethrower that can create small fireballs. Cold, on the other hand is for all intents and purposes a glorified knuckle duster and mostly allows for Garret to punch things really hard without fear of breaking his fist.
    • Though unnamed, Garret keeps two decks of cards on his person at all times, one is just a regular ol' set of 52 paper cards. The other is 52 razor sharp steel cards that effectively function as throwing stars.
  • Semblance: Prestidigitation allows Garret to create small two way portals on any flat surface after touching it. These are on average, just large enough for Garret to fit his arm through and (usually) pull something through them and can be kept a fair distance apart (no more than 20 feet or so on average. Garret can also create much larger portals, but they both take a large drain on his aura and can only be kept fairly close together (five feet or so)
  • Other skills: Fisticuffs, various forms of magic tricks (Garret's specialty is cards), trick shuffling, pickpocketing, various card games, counting cards and darts.
  • Personality: Garret is a fairly carefree individual who waltzes through life with focus on little more than how he's going to make his next big profit. While a bit of a loner, Garret isn't really much of one for keeping to himself constantly, seeing friends and allies as essential to staying alive and sane in any line of work, be it hunting or street magic. Though he doesn't take much in life seriously, cracking jokes and making snarky comments at horribly inopportune times, Garret can get serious when the situation demands, though those are mostly life and death situations.
  • Bio: A reformed street urchin, Garret used to live off of picking pockets whenever his folks were away on business, even if he and his family weren't exactly hurting for money, Garret just got a kick out of lifting people's wallets. Though Garret was more or less forced to change his ways after getting caught one too many times. Fortunately for Garret, the man who caught him was moderately impressed with his knack for sleight of hand and took him up as an apprentice of sorts. And from then on, Garret began learning the arts of street magic. After a few years of doing magic tricks for less money than he'd like to make, Garret came to realize that his current occupation just wasn't going to cut it if he wanted to actually make some decent cash. It was at this point that Garret discovered just how much money licensed Huntsmen made, leading to him deciding to try and enroll in Atlas.

  • Name: Suzu Krigsvart
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 3
  • Race: Gynoid
  • Appearance: Fairly natural
  • Weapons and Equipment:
    • Ryuho: Suzu's primary weapon is Ryuho, a jet-pack filled to the brim with micro-rockets that the gynoid is able to mentally guide, unique to the device is its ability to detach from its base, and function as a combat drone.
    • Shinden: In addition Suzu has Shinden, her katana, no fancy transformations or complex machinery adorn her personal weapon it is simply a solid electrified blade although a trigger in the tsuka allows it to cast the bolts for a bit more range.
  • Semblance: N/A, no robits with semblances yet, though she can remotly control machines she is synced too.
  • Other skills: decent cook, great mechanic, decent medic, and amazing at video-games.
  • Personality: Suzu is fairly friendly and energetic, she loves to meet new people
  • Bio: Created as part of the steel hunter project funded by Max after a particular nasty grim attacked Atlas, Suzu began life as Huntress Beta before she was adopted out to one of the project's staffers and given her name. While her sister focuses on her own physical prowess enhanced by drones, Suzu was created with a more dispersed power structure in mind, her body made to blend in better and her coms suite upgraded she is very adapt at the control of other machines but at the cost of her own strength. She currently attends Atlas with her brother Lucas both to further her training in combat, and ironically enough social development as well.

• Name: Celeste Alexandros

• Gender: Female

• Age: 5

• Race: Gynoid

• Appearance: Stands at about 5 foot even. Has short black hair framing her face, with metal disks not unlike headphones in place of her ears, with a band looping around the back of her head with a small amount of space between it and her head. Body is a bit ball jointed, and she has no actual feet, her legs instead tapering into a flat surface that she balances upon. She has two small cables coming out from the bottom half of the back of her head, each with a small red bow on them.

• Weapons and Equipment:

o Piercing Lightning: A large weapon in between a sword and a lance, with the long half of a polearm, and the blade of a sword the length of a bastard swords’. The blade has a variable width, with a thinner blade being used more for stabbing, and a wider blade used for more slashing and smashing. The blade also separates to attach to either the legs or the arms, and is charged with lightning dust.

o Corona: A circular drone based around coilgun/gauss rifle technology. High strength, and is used by Celeste to magnify the power of her physical attacks. Can be split in half. Full Circle is for thrusting attacks with spear, and half circle is for swinging strikes like kicks. Has a special overcharged state that Celeste will use in conjunction with with Piercing Lightning by throwing the polearm through Corona, which, due to its increased output due to safety parameters being turned off, will send the weapon shooting at a far more accelerated and devastating rate, often causing small craters on impact, as well as an electrical storm from the dust within the lance.

o Aegis: Two pseudo-drones that are connected to Celeste by the cables from her head. When not in use they connect to ports on her hips, and when in use, act as form of extra defense and offense. Made to take hits as well as be used as cutting weapons with the sharpened edges, Aegis is also able to be combined into a shield that attaches to Celeste’s left arm. The edges are heated with fire dust, and there is also a simple semi-automatic gun within each half of Aegis.

• Semblance: N/A

• Other skills: Like her sister, good at video games, she is also learning how to play the harp. Also likes to play chess.

• Personality: Fierce yet analytical, Celeste is a loyal, but anti-social friend. Preferring the company of computers and close friends and family, she can seem a bit bland at first, but those who get to know her are able to see just how cheery she can be and just how much she has accumulated in regards to her sentience within her lifespan. Still has trouble computing sarcasm though.

• Bio: Celeste was the first result of the Steel Hunter Project, founded by her father Max. Huntress Alpha was created with the idea of overwhelming force in mind, and was among the Alexandros family with her older sister Rosamia. After two years, Celeste was happy to see the project produce her younger sister Suzu, and she has interacted with her several times despite being raised in different families. She looks forward to spending time with both of her sisters at Atlas, as well as to ripping through Grimm.

Done!

  • Name: Lucas Krigsvart
  • Gender: Male
  • Age: 16 ½ (Only let in because he’s going to turn 17 in the winter anyways)
  • Race: Fox Faunus
  • Appearance: Sports a lean yet athletic build, and is also a bit on the tall side. Pale skin (almost white, in fact). Black hair that’s rather longish, with it down to a bit past his shoulder, and covering the right side of his face. Clear blue eyes, cold as ice and sharp as a hawk. His outfits are somewhat utilitarian – pants, shirt, jacket. He also has a fox’s tail – black, with white tips.
  • Weapons and Equipment: Svelluta, Lucas’ weapon, is typically a set of short swords that Lucas keeps in sheaths on his belt. However, the bottoms of the hilts have a gear somewhat sticking out at each end, as well as connectors. This is because when Lucas connects the two ends, he can use Svelluta as a bladed, stringless bow. In case you’re wondering, the gears are turned one way when Lucas is pulling back the arrow, storing potential energy in internal springs. When he releases the arrow, the springs, in an attempt to revert to a natural state, turns the gears in the opposite direction, launching the arrow.
  • Semblance: At its most basic, Lucas’s Phantom semblance seems to be a simple Aura vision ability, allowing him to see others’ Auras, and use them to determine emotions of the wielder. However, what sets it apart from that is that he can project his Aura with the intent of hiding himself. At first, it simply quiets the noise of his movements, but with concentration and lots of Aura he can make shadowy forms surround himself, making it harder to see his features or actions, and even results in people not noticing him as long as he doesn’t draw his attention to himself. However, this ability isn’t exactly perfect. Those who know of him and this ability have a better chance of finding him and seeing through this effect. In addition, this does not protect from Aura perception, infrared vision, or any form of perceiving other than sight and sound.
  • Other Skills: Lucas is often quite the bookworm, and performs as well in academic studies as he does in combat. He's also learned cooking over the years — Mia would probably starve if she wasn't fed, and besides, she really likes his strawberry parfaits and he also likes to make treats for himself. In addition, Lucas has a decent singing voice, though he'll deny it up and down.
  • Personality: On one hand, Lucas is devoted to being a Huntsman. He’s loyal to a fault, won’t back down from his duties and is willing to do whatever it takes to protect innocent lives. On the other hand… His attitude could use some work. He’s cocky, sure of his invincibility, not a team player, and has the sort of haughtiness you get when you’re the new kid who’s rising quickly through the ranks. He’s also fearful of what would happen if he fails to meet those high expectations and has had a tendency to push himself well beyond his limits as a result, but that’s buried deep, deep down, where no one’s going to find it. He hopes.
  • Bio:
    • Lucas grew up in Naudhiz, a town just to the east of Mantle – an area that is well known for harshly cold temperatures and even harsher Grimm. On his father’s side, he was descended from great warriors and huntsmen, and while his mother’s family had no such history of combat, she was a renowned roboticist working for Olympos Security and Medical Robotics. It was with this group that he met his best friend – Rosamia Alexadros, the only child of his mom’s bosses. With their parents often busy with Project Steel Huntress, they hung out together, stucking with each other through thick and thin – she defended him from bullies when they decided to cause him trouble due to his tail, he helped her with her homework. In the end, they both ending up going to Atlas Academy at the same year, along with his new sister, Suzu, and Mia's sister, Celeste. In Luke’s case, though, it was on technicalities – he was supposed to finish one more year in Lighthouse, but he score a perfect grade on the Atlas acceptance exam, and he would turn 17 during the school year, so the officials let it slide. With this, Lucas hopes to become one of the best huntsmen (or Specialist, he’s not too picky) in the world, and to help make Remnant a better place.

#11: Jan 25th 2017 at 11:47:33 PM

  • Name: Ashley Ebon

  • Gender: Female

  • Age: 18

  • Race: Human

  • Appearance:"Ashley Ebon, reporting for duty sir/ma'am!"

  • Weapons and Equipment:

    • Digitus Ex Deus: A grey assault rifle that can also be turned into a sniper rifle. Can load Elemental Dust rounds. It can also be connected to the Magnum Oculus for targeting purposes. The rifle form can switch between full-auto, burst fire and semi-auto, while the sniper rifle can switch between semi-auto and bolt action. Able to fit a variety of modifications such as silencers and scopes.

    • Seraphim: A pair of heavily customized Atlesian military handguns, used to belong to her parents. Match-grade triggers, customized grip, and most importantly, bayonets, among others. Can also fit more modifications such as silencers. They're stored in the lower leg armour.

    • Magnum Oculus: A high tech visor/pair of goggles with a variety of features. The Magnum Oculus' HUD comes with targeting assistance, rangefinder, high power zoom, night vision, thermal vision, Grimm and conventional weapon identification, the ability to see the Aura levels of others by wirelessly linking through their Scrolls and tactical analysis. It also works as a semi-replacement for a Scroll, usable through voice commands and eye movement tracking. If she has the right tools on hand, Ashley could modify the HUD even further to fit the situation.

  • Semblance: Chronos' Eye. Ashley can greatly slow her perception of time while also augmenting her vision greatly. This vision not only lets her have near perfect accuracy and see over longer distances, but also to focus on everything at once. She may then use more Aura to greatly speed up her own torso, arm and head movements to launch a barrage of high speed shots against any targets she's locked onto with Magnum Oculus and/pr Digitus Ex Deus.

  • Other skills:

    • Ashley's great at playing games of strategy.

    • Ashley's skills with digital objects such as computers and Scrolls are top-notch. After all, she made the Magnum Oculus' HUD herself.

    • Believe it or not, Ashley is great at sewing and tailoring. She tries to hide it from others though.

  • Personality: Ashley is serious, disciplined and severely lacking in the 'fun' department. She backs this up with a keen mind and a natural charisma. She is also obsessed with emulating her parents, and even idolizes Ironwood. The whole reason she pushes herself in anything is to be the best, to compare to her parents and others in the hopes of getting recognized. Despite all her attempts to seem confident and professional, she's actually quite the insecure goofball when no one is looking, wanting the approval of others, as well as hiding a soft heart beneath her hard exterior. Also, she's hardly the independent sort, and her sense of humour can be...strange, at best.

  • Bio: Born the only daughter to two Atlesian Specialists, Ashley grew up idolizing her parents' tales of bravery and heroism. She was enamoured with the idea of being an Atlesian Specialist, taking down Grimm and others things that threatened the world of Remnant, quickly and efficiently. And, of course, this comes with a admiration of Ironwood bordering on being a fangirl. So, she was sent to combat school by her parents (Not that she objected) where she often pulled all-nighters studying and working, doing her very best to get her grades high enough that Atlas Academy wouldn't think twice about letting her in, even if it did impact her social life and sleep schedule. All worth it in the end, passing as one of the best in the school and being accepted into Atlas. Finally, at the cusp of her dream being realized, Ashley looks forward to the chance to finally see some real action, and become even better through experience.

  • Name: Kaiyo Kawaguchi
  • Gender: F
  • Age: 18
  • Race: Stag Beetle Faunus, possesses a magnificent blue crest atop her head.
  • Appearance: Kaiyo dresses pretty plainly, actually, in order to stay comfortable and light under her armor. She's very built, with broad shoulders and hips, with rounded, powerful-looking hands and feet. She tries to keep her hair real short, but allows that sorta mandible-looking haircut in front that some girls have. Her face is big and round and friendly, her eyes in particular, suggestive of stag beetles even though her horn says what her actual Thing is. She wears a lot of different and very elaborately decorated gis, with all sorts of different fire effects and gear motifs and shit on them, but all of them with her symbol on the back, a big katana with a bunch of jagged shards flying towards it in a radial pattern. TsuruGi can sit over all of this comfortably.
  • Weapons and Equipment: TsuruGi is both a katana and a suit of armor. While it was once a massive sword, easily weighing about a hundred and fifty pounds and seven feet long, Kaiyo gradually shaved away at the metal of the blade in a very deliberate manner, shaping it into a katana on one end and a full suit of armor on the other. Special modules set in the armor remember its position, though; using the power of magnetism and a special sort of reassembling alloy not unlike shape-memory alloy, Kaiyo can pull a trigger on TsuruGi's handle and send her armor flying back to form the blade it once was. While normally this means that it just flies straight off her body, it will also work if TsuruGi is less than 20 feet away. The armor can also be called onto Kaiyo in a similar way via a set of bracelets, armlets, anklets, and a belt which together yank the armor onto her within that same radius.
  • Semblance: Fixin' Things lets Kaiyo mend objects with simple and clear damage; while this is probably an extension of a more complex Semblance that, like, "restores objects to their previous state" or whatever, she primarily uses it to fix things.
  • Other skills: Crafts. Handiwork. Kaiyo can fix the lights in your house then make you a sick engraving in some wood, her primary medium. Really into smithing.
  • Personality: Almost like kind of jockish in demeanor, or something, which is even weirder because she hoots and hollers about shit like DESIGN, TIIIIGHT! and DUUDE, THAT WAS A SICK QUICKSTEP! She believes fully in the premise of a powerful Kiai giving you a real tangible benefit, and as a result yelling and getting enthused about things other than fighting should have the same effect! Loves a hard day's work and that real chillness you get from genuine exhaustion.
  • Bio: Kaiyo's family were a bunch of super intense artisans out in Mistral. They think that humans and faunus are uniquely the only intelligent lives on this planet because they were intended to be stewards of the world. To use the world's resources in the crafts is to thank it, and to learn is to use the gift you were given well. Her early life was good, until like so many Huntsmen her border village was attacked by Grimm. Realizing that these, too, were the making of a world that she had thought was supposed to be good, and welcoming, she sort of... snapped, just a little bit. She started screaming herself raw and hacking away Grimm, dressed in ramshackle armor and wielding a blunt sword. She survived, somehow, mostly because a Huntsman showed up minutes later and saved her life. With her family lost, and definitely just missing for now, Kaiyo resolved to become a Huntress and make a name for herself so that someday she might find them, if not in a literal sense then maybe rediscover a lost part of her identity through the crafts.

  • Name: Belia Bunsen
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 17
  • Race: Faunus (Goat)
  • Appearance: Short white hair kept in a ponytail, pink eyes, of average height for her age and a pair of goat horns growing out of her head. Usually is sporting a labcoat and a pink set of goggles with striped socks underneath. Her right arm is mechanical.
  • Weapons and Equipment: Method. This is basically a raygun that can shoot both generic lasers and several varieties of dust. She uses the latter sparingly as she doesn't have unlimited funds for it. In melee barrel end can seal itself up and reveal a handle allowing it to work as a hammer.
  • Semblance: Reconstitution. Given a simple non-organic material of uniform chemical consistency she can reshape objects to whatever form she wishes. For example. If you gave her a enough rock she could turn it into a bowl or a knife. But if you gave her a computer or a gun it would to complicated for her to work with.
  • Other skills: Belia is a skilled researcher with plenty of lab experience as well as combat experience.
  • Personality: Belia has a deep passion for scientific research and study as well as a highly logical mind. She tends to focus deeply on what she loves and can be neglectful of everything else. She nonetheless tends to be polite and never goes out of her way to be mean or cruel to others. She is generally an independent person who will try to avoid burdening others by asking their assistance believing that she's been a burden for too much of her life.
  • Bio: Belia Bunsen was born of a poor Faunus family who worked for the Schnee Dust Company. Her family lived on the edge of a steep cliff, and as a toddler Belia fell off it. She ended up trapped at the bottom of a hill for hours and what's worse, debris from above had landed on her arm. By the time help arrived, her arm couldn't be saved. Her parents, already struggling to make ends meet were desperate to help their daughter. They demanded ludicrous hours to ensure that they would be able to afford the cybernetic limb that would allow Belia to live a more normal life.

  • Belia as a consequence was looked after by her Aunt Victoria, a teacher at at Refuge local combat school who had multiple books of science. Victoria would tutor Belia after school and as a result Belia excelled in academics. When Belia's parents scraped together enough for her a cybernetic arm, Victoria believed that Belia had what it took to excel in Refuge. She was able to pull some strings to reduce tuition. After graduating Refuge Belia was able to attend Atlas via a scholarship and the pressure is on her to keep the grades needed to maintain the scholarship up.

Ummm. I'm sorry, Rhyme, but as of now, signups are closed. There might be more slots in the future, but I'm not accepting any more people at this time.

Also, number 12.

  • Name: Rosamia Lynn Alexandros, usually "Rosie", but her best friend calls her "Mia".
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 17
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: I smell prey~!
  • Weapons and Equipment:
    • Rosie's main weapon is the Tauropolos. Tauropolos is a two part-weapon. Usually taking the form of a small buckler mounted on a gauntlet on her left arm, Tauropolos unfolds into a stringless white greatbow. It is stringless because a string would be irrelevant to its function. The second part of Tauropolos is a small rectangular pack on Rosie's back, connected to the gauntlet. This is the weapon's power supply. When activated, a string of white light appears and Tauropolos is able to shoot arrows of light made from Dust and Rosie's Aura. It can shoot arrows made of different kinds of Dust, depending on the cartridge inserted into the pack. Tauropolos can shoot far enough to rival sniper rifles, fast enough to shoot nine shots one after the other, or shoot three light arrows at the same time.
    • On her other hand is another gauntlet and matching arm guard. Contains a hidden blade superheated by Fire Dust.
    • A silver masquerade mask fitted with a lens that automatically gauge her team's Aura level and acts as coms. Handy that! Is a mask because Rosie is a Drama Queen.
  • Semblance: Asteria - Rosie's Semblance allows her to manipulate gravity...for one person or thing at a time. Rosamia needs to touch her target, and when something is touched she can make that target be affected more or less by gravity. Heavier or lighter, it doesn't matter. To switch targets, Rosie needs to touch the new target and focus. The affect of her Semblance then vanishes from the first target. Her Semblance is usually used on...herself, making her lighter and allowing her to jump great heights.
  • Other skills:
    • Fashion: Rosie has an eye for fashion and is always at the top when it comes to trends and fads. Likes dressing up her friends too.
    • Rudimentary knowledge of robotics: Just a bit. Hey, with a dad like hers, you learn these things.
    • Piano: Incredibly gifted. Out of practice, though.
    • Archery: Rosie is a good shot and specializes in aiming from long range. Her best friend is a better shot though, which annoys her to no end.
    • Inexplicable ability to drown in a foot deep puddle.
  • Personality: Rosamia Alexandros is a rather...strong....personality. Haughty, arrogant and spoiled. Intense, fiery and competitive. She's the type that if you give her cash, she'd spend it on useless things within a day. Rosamia follows her emotions and never second guesses herself. And yes, that extends to her romantic life as well. Still Rosamia loves much and gives much as well. She is loyal and protective to those she is close to and will literally move heaven and earth for them if she has to. Her "adorable baby sister" and her "best friend for eternity" are her world and heaven help you if you harm them. Lastly, because of her upbringing, Rosie thinks all life is precious and is staunchly against the killing of any human or faunus (or sentient robot, as it were.).
  • Bio: Rosamia Alexandros was born the only daughter of Maximillian and Marianne Alexandros: founders and owners of Olympos Security and Medical robotics, a company known for robot security guards and top class mechanical prosthetics. Her father Max doted on her and as a result, Rosie was spoiled rotten. Still, she didn't have much friends due to the isolation inherent in her life...which was where Lucas came in. Friends since childhood, their bond only grew stronger. It was a nasty Grimm attack seven years back that led to the creation of her mother's brainchild: Project Steel Hunter. This also led to the births of her sister Celeste and Lucas's sister Suzu. Watching the news reports of the Grimm attack changed young Rosamia. Seeing the pointless deaths of people...she wanted to stop it. And so she enrolled in combat school and headed to Atlas. Rosamia's goal: To protect everyone.

He also has red eyes, but is blind in the left one, so it is dull and glassed. He tends to wear a long black cape, and dresses like someone from the eighteenth century.
  • Weapons and Equipment: His weapon is known as the Garotte Lasso. It has two forms. It can either be a whip, which can be used to wrap around people and trip them up or strangle them, or a pair of guns connected by the rope. When in whip form, the guns will merge together to create the handle.

Just gonna put this here for the waiting list.

  • Name: Rangvald Olaffson of the Aeslings
  • Age: 17
  • Gender: Male
  • Race: Human
  • Appearance: One pretty viking.
  • Weapons and Equipment: Eschewing technology in favor of traditional melee weaponry and rigorous training of his peoples, Rangvald carries a couple of different weapons on his person. Reinforced with Grimmbone (see below), they are a versatile set though he usually doesn't take all of them at all on missions. He also goes to battle in a suit of armor and a winged helmet, strengthened with Dust and Grimmbone both, the ultimate testament to a contradiction that are the surviving Aeslings.
    • Kalpa - An elegant piece of blade and Rangvald's primary weapon of choice. Usually goes together with either Suoja or Keihäs.
    • Suoja - A wooden round shield reinforced with Power Dust which gives it a quasi-reactive effect; a strong enough blow is guaranteed to explode right into the offender's face. Its outline is metal and perfect for breaking someone's neck with it.
    • Karsia - A piece of bearded axe on a long handle. The beard of the axe allow Rangvald to disarm enemies with impunity or just pull them closer to have someone else deal the finishing blow.
    • Keihäs - A spear made entirely out of Grimmbone, giving it a rather eerie, askew look (and a couple of little barbs near the head, making it leave some gruesome wounds on men and Grimm both). Solid enough to block hits with it, though Rangvald rarely uses it on its own, more often pairing it either with Kalpa or Suoja.
    • Keula - Bow and Arrows, the former out of Grimmbone as well though its design has not deteriorated as badly as the spear's. A shortbow made for sneaky attacks or for prolonged combat; Rangvald often coats the arrowheads with various poisons (Grimm poisons are preferable).
    • He also carries a more modern combat knife as a back-up weapon.
  • Semblance: By the virtue of ancient magic predating Mantle, all Aeslings are capable of Preservation. What this means is that by coming into physical contact with a creature of Grimm - the contact must be done body-to-body, though some can extend the effect to the objects they hold - they can preserve the Grimm's body or a part of it, should it meet its demise. The longer the contact, the more of a Grimm can be preserved. This leaves the carcass for further exploitation and the Aeslings have thus survived thanks to that; the Grimm are their source of nourishment, furs, bones and trophies.
    • As a side-effect of this ancient magic from eons past, any additional Semblance an Aesling might have will only interact with Grimm. Rangvald's is The Grimmbreaker. He, the son of the most populous of Aesling enclaves' jarl, can break these creatures of despair with a look and force them to retreat. The effect is most evident on the youngest and dumbest of Grimm, but assuming he could keep a prolonged eye contact with one while keeping his body movement to the minimum - no small feat - bigger Grimm could also be cowed or at least discouraged from fighting.
  • Other Skills:
    • He can play the lute rather well.
    • An adept hunter; capable of handling not just the Grimm, but ordinary animals as well in ways that maximize the bounty of the hunt quite so.
    • His grasp of Atlesian is still a little lacking, so he sometimes misses articles, tenses or other such things.
    • Knows the basics of smithing and Dustweaving.
    • Can't get drunk, at least not on this Atlesian piss they call alcohol.
    • Traditional Aesling Wrestling. (think pankration)
    • Technology all but eludes him. He knows how to use a Scroll by now, but everything else is considered a mystery that he is taking a long, long time getting used to.
  • Personality: Rangvald is a man of a serious disposition who considers his mission - representing Atlesian Huntsmen as an Aesling - to be really super important. He is going to score the top score, the first mark, the first kill. If it is something within a degree of his competences, he will try his best to be the best at it among his peers. Treats any sort of technology - especially firearms - with disdain, but he grudgingly respects its power. That only makes him motivated to try and surpass it. Not the type to forgive himself for mistakes and while he is a little easier on his peers, he will expect them to perform as well as they can. Severely lacking in the sense of humor or in the art of recognizing sarcasm. Merciless to his enemies; the notion of killing another man has become natural by now. Has no particular hatred for Grimm, finding them more akin to prey than a mortal enemy of mankind.
  • Bio: Deep within the northern Solitas lie the remnants of an ancient kingdom. The descendants of these old figures of yore - known as Aeslings - have always been something of an oddball amongst the inhabitants of the cold continent. While various societies progressed in organization, technology and structure, Aeslings kept to the guns of their ancestors, living in small enclaves all over the north of Solitas. A group of tough and battle-hardened people, the ancient rites of times immemorial supposedly gave them an ability to feast upon Grimm like Grimm would feast upon ordinary men... but surely these rumors were nothing but that, right?
    • Some time before the Great War, Mantle nationalists funded an expedition into Northern Solitas with a mission of subjugating or wiping out Aeslings to finalize the integration of the continent. The "Grimm-eaters" met Mantle firearms and machines with their swords and shields... and to a shock of the entire world - or at least Mantle itself - they drove the 500-man battalion out of their land. Only 87 people have returned, speaking tales of Aeslings leading Grimm into battle, fighting in spite of mortal wounds and using weapons fashioned from what appeared to be the bone of Grimm. The jarl who drove the Mantle invasion back was Sigbrand the Ursa, Rangvald's great grandfather.
    • The second invasion was less fortunate for Aeslings; Mantle had sent a proper army this time. The Grimm-eaters fought bravely, but were being pushed back further and further. Luckily for them, it was at this time that The Great War rolled about and they were left to their own devices while Mantle was attending to more important things. Mantle's successor, Atlas, was luckily slightly more courteous to Aeslings, in no small thanks to one Nicholas Schnee. As it turned out, Aeslings sat upon massive piles of Dust that they themselves had only used in small amounts. Breaking out a deal was a matter of days and said deal stated as followed: Aeslings were to be left to their own devices, not to be peturbed by any military activity, and also would be supported by Atlesian forces in case of invasion (a sentiment that was to be reciprocated in case the opposite was true); in exchange they would share the Dust stockpiles with Atlas - on top of various other trades as Grimm-fashioned products had found some profit - and appoint a representative every few years that would join Atlas Academy as a Huntsman.
    • This is where the tale of Rangvald Olaffson begins. As a son of his enclave's jarl, great expectations were placed upon him. Having killed his first Beowulf at the tender age of 12 - a time-honored tradition of the Aesling - he was always a kid dedicated to the cause, giving it all of his heart and effort, no matter how small the contest would be. While he cannot say he likes the idea of venturing past the familiar snow and into "civilization" where machines did everything for their makers, this is his duty and he shall uphold it, help him the gods.

>has broken all the rules of the universe

Sorries. >.>

Ferg, my friend, as much as I like you and would love to see an honest to Dust viking...

No.

Just no.

First off, the connection to the Grimm. The preservation was iffy enough, but outright coercion?

That's not gonna fly with me.

Prototype Ieria just drew strength from the Grimm and I vetoed that right out.

The Grimm are supposed to be these terrifying out of context monsters to Remnant. Some guy using them as a hat just doesn't work with that.

Add that to the fact that this guy runs headlong into my golden rule of "No Instakill, no literal invincibility, no mind manipulation".

So yeah.

I love you, but that's rejected.

Right. I should have known that this wouldn't go.

I guess I just wanted to try and do something different, on top of the worldbuilding, but that's probably not the RP for that.

There's another character I had in mind, so I guess I will try my luck with that character instead. c:

I'm probably gonna submit a signup just because this sudden character concept won't leave me alone, in spite of the fact that I'm not sure I have time for another RP right now.

On that note, I'd like to know how much of the current canon lore applies to this AU. Did the Great War and Faunus Rights Rebellion still happen and end in the same way, for example? I realize the OP says many of the larger historical factors would remain the same, but I'm wondering how far that extends.

Okay. Make this a take two. >.>

  • Name: Kara Donaghy
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 17
  • Race: Frog Faunus - has a long, long tongue.
  • Appearance: Stands at 4'11. Has this light brown complexion, on top of a fit figure with abs and noticeable muscles. Her poncho is a little longer so it actually covers something when she's not fighting. For casual clothing, expect her to wear sweaters upon sweaters.
  • Weapons and Equipment:
    • Dead Man's Hands - Kara's two unassuming tonfas hold three weapons in each: small-caliber revolvers hidden inside the tonfa - the knob is opened to fire - the curved blade proper that has its internal part of the blade blunted to pull people closer for a mean kick or a small-scale pile bunker to the gut, the large blade of the tonfa (that can also be used as an ordinary dagger). Additionally, the curved blades can detach on small, thin chains that Kara can swing like a pair of impromptu kusarigamas.
    • Duneskimmers - A pair of rollerblades slash iceskates. They also have little rocket boosters to get Kara to the goal even faster or to move effectively through sandier or mushier surfaces, and you don't want to be kicked with one.
    • She herself puts on a thin layer of Fire Dust to protect herself from the absolute chilling climate of Atlas. All of her clothes are reinforced with it as well.
  • Semblance: Friction Ride - Kara can alter the friction of a surface she's currently riding on. It can be made more slippery or it can be made less slippery, with obvious applications for these. She can alter the friction of any unanimated object she comes in contact with, but the effects are best seen when she does it with her legs. She herself is unaffected by a change in friction unless she wishes to be, but the same cannot be said of... well, anyone else, friend or foe alike.
  • Other Skills:
    • Rollerblading and iceskating like a master
    • Greatly agile and flexible.
    • Knows some kick-based martial arts (think simplified savate)
    • Can play a mandoline rather well.
    • Her tongue can actually hold small objects.
  • Personality: Kara's a very casual character; she tends to not uphold standards of formal speech and addresses everyone on the same level of familiarity. She takes her life easy and one couldn't be faulted for thinking that her choice of weapons is just for show due to how often she just lazes about, a bit of grass in her mouth. Don't be fooled: she's a hero through and through, one that will strive her hardest to correct injustices and bring down evil (there's a reason why a Faunus purposefully went to Atlas). To that end, during battle she becomes truly focused, though not losing her flair as a "drifting cowboy" type of character. Loves sunbaths and could just lie under the sun forever (if they weren't on a fricking North Pole that Atlas is). She's not easily distressed and makes it a point to hold everyone together - even if it means slapping them a couple of times with her tongue.
  • Bio: Kara Donaghy could certainly go to any Huntsman academy if she so desired; with her results from earlier exams it would be nothing to apply to any of the four and get in there safely... so why choose the most hostile, unforgiving environment that is Atlas Academy? Mostly because there were people there who were weak and oppressed - and if she could, she would break their chains.
    • To understand this, one must go back to Kara's past several years back in the sun-caked Vacuo. She was weak, a vice that was frowned upon in this unforgiving climate. Small in stature, sickly and not too self-confident, she could trip over her tongue sometimes when walking. It didn't seem like there was much of a place for her in Vacuo and the environment knew that; thus, she was a frequent target of bullying and ridicule. Men and Fauni alike, nobody spared her the grief, not even her own siblings. Her parents - a busy official in the capital and an even busier nurse - tried their best to help their distressed daughter, but it... didn't really work out. It all reached a critical point when, upon yet another humiliating debt set upon on her by her vicious classmates, she went out into the wild. There, at the tender age of 11, she came into her first contact with the creatures of Grimm, a juvenile Deathstalker prowling the sands in search of prey. She has reported later that, despite everything, she didn't feel fear. Of course, there isn't much a child armed with only a knife she pouched from the kitchen can do against even the youngest of Grimm. Luckily a Huntsman had come to her rescue and at that moment, as she saw this man on rollerblades just cut the bear-sized scorpion into ribbons, then finish it off with a couple of shots from his shiny revolvers, Kara was awestruck. This was something she wanted to do, even in spite of her fragility. She would overcome it and become something better; a person who can one day too perform such feats for the good of the world and others.
    • Her parents were unable to provide her with much training beyond a good word and the funding of her weapons, but luckily her grandmother was a retired Huntress herself. Kara stayed her next few years there, getting in shape, fighting off her insecurities and perfecting the art of the one Huntsman who saved her. She became agile, strong, fast. She was ready to take on the world. Over time she became aware that other Fauni suffer from discrimination in other kingdoms, and only because they are Fauni. The first step in honoring the legacy of The Cowboy Huntsman and her own sense of justice was thus to set out to the heart of the problem; the frigid Solitas and the Atlas Academy that stood there.

I'll be back to refine this, I swear.

I'm aware the semblance could potentially be OP, so I tried pre-nerfing it, but anticipate it may need further adjustment.

  • Name: Aurelia Astrea
  • Gender: Female
  • Age: 18 (born Umbra 21)
  • Race: Bovid Faunus passing as Human
  • Appearance: "I'm pleased to make your acquaintance!"
  • Weapons and Equipment:
    • Stella Fulgentia: A rather gaudy, hot-pink scepter topped by a spherical gold cage containing a large, rhomboid crystal of Wind Dust. Holding down a hidden switch on the shaft causes the Dust's energies to be focused through the very tip and manifest a powerful cone of wind, the main function of which is as a defensive measure. Amazingly, it doesn't contain a gun, because she's a horrible shot and thus relies upon her semblance as a crutch when she needs to execute an attack from long range. The gold spike at the other end of the scepter, however, in addition to being good for stabbing things, can be detached to be used on its own as...
    • Stella Crinita: A gold colored spike adorned on the flat edge by the image of an eight-rayed star that can be detached from Stella Fulgentia's end and reveals itself to in fact be a short dagger... at first. In truth, Stella Crinita is a long, extendable razor-whip of many small, linked diamonds (♦) that can be decompressed from the long, pointy end with the flick of a switch on the hilt, and fully retracted by that same mechanism. Once retracted, it could be used as an actual dagger, but more devastating is the magnetically-contained blade of dust-fueled, super-heated plasma that extends when the weapon's star symbol is pressed.
  • Semblance: LozengeLuxLogos: Aurelia can transmute portions of her choosing from any nonliving, soulless object she has imbued with her Aura into glowing ♦lozenges♦ between 1 to 12 inches in width that appear to be made of various colors of light, though they are actually solid objects themselves. Each is only a single hue, though her strong personal preference is for purple. Imbuing an object with her aura for this purpose takes about five minutes of mostly unbroken concentration, and she cannot convert or otherwise manipulate a mass that is physically larger than her own body, though reducing it to rainbow rhombi afterward takes only a couple of seconds. The ♦lozenges♦ retain the precise density and physical properties of the object they were created from (e.g., no stabbing somebody with ♦lozenges♦ made of cloth). As long as she has concentration enough to focus on them, Aurelia can freely manipulate these converted bits of objects with her mind, and can even reform them into new objects composed of the same material they came from. The existence of such creations is illusory and transient, however, as they automatically disassemble themselves and revert — even if broken or otherwise destroyed — as closely as possible to their original form when:
    • Aurelia is more than fifty yards from the matter she originally took them from, or
    • Aurelia is unconscious, or
    • Aurelia is out of Aura to spare, or
    • Aurelia is distracted so thoroughly that she completely loses focus

Her main uses for her semblance are converting her antlers (dead bone that they are) into fashion accessories, changing her clothes the easy way out of sheer laziness, and freely manipulating Stella Crinita's whip portion. Having had her aura unlocked at a very young age, and having awakened to her semblance during a bout of deep depression following her father's death, Aurelia has been working on her skills for a long time, though she is still far from full mastery.
  • Other skills:
    • Aurelia is very well-read, and can produce some (subjectively) excellent poetry, prose, or academic writing when she puts her mind to it - not that she thinks her work is any good, of course.
    • Thanks to extensive private tutoring, she harbors a thorough repository of academic knowledge on a great many subjects that Atlas might teach in its general education curriculum, in addition to business-related knowledge necessary for the heiress to a family corporation.
    • As a scion of high society, Aurelia is also keenly aware of correct etiquette when among her 'peers', and has studiously memorized the names and basic histories of all the elite players in Atlas political and business circles.
    • The only food or drink she knows how to make is tea, and even then only because she pestered the family maids endlessly about it (as they thought it improper).
  • Personality: In public, Aurelia is a poster child for the supposed ideal Atlasian lady of good pedigree: in work, diligent and laser-focused; in friendship, warm, but not too warm; in battle, cold and calculating. Beneath the veneer of dignified, blue-blooded poise, however, lies a cheerful and optimistic young woman, enthusiastic about the duty of protecting the world as a Huntress, and harboring a deep, burning passion to root out injustices so prevalent in Atlasian society. Further shattering this petty illusion, Aurelia is prone to absent-minded meandering with her head in the clouds, very eager to make friends, and not very good at being ruthless in combat unless something specifically arouses her ire.

She is by no means stupid, but due to her sheltered childhood, she also can be rather naive about even simple matters of everyday life for those less well-off, in spite of her abstract dedication to her ideals. She firmly believes that everyone should be shown kindness and treated equally, regardless of the circumstances of their upbringing, and holds her own behavior to that same standard. That said, she is extremely anxious about the possible revelation of her Faunus heritage to the point of near-paranoia, and is rather quick to become meek in the presence of female authority figures.
  • Bio: Aurelia was born from the illicit affair of a Faunus maidservant immigrated from Vacuo and a scion of Old Money trapped in a loveless, political marriage. Though her mother died in childbirth, her doting father raised her with all the love and care he could muster — while he wasn't away hunting Grimm and other threats to the peace as an Atlas Specialist, that is. Young Aurelia would spend her days alternately chatting with the serving staff, studying with several private tutors, and listening with rapt attention to her father's tales of his heroism in the face of evil. In spite of his frequent absences, he instilled within his young daughter a rock-solid commitment to the principle of noblesse oblige, along with a strong sense of justice and a powerful drive to pursue her romantic vision of the Hunter and Huntress lifestyle. Then, of course, he died in a glorious last stand while protecting the lives of the innocent in a faraway land.

Left with her father's distant, jealous widow as her only living relative, Aurelia retreated into herself and preoccupied her time with her studies and attendance at the various ritzy parties her legal mother loved to go to. It was at one of her mother's parties, however, that General James Ironwood gave those assembled a speech, a speech that rekindled the fire in the young woman's chest and spurred her to redouble her efforts to become good enough to join the ranks of Atlas Academy. As luck, talent, and sheer persistence would have it, she scored quite well on the entrance exams, and got in on her first try. Though questions about her future and identity still loom large in the back of her mind every day, Aurelia is more than ready to meet new friends, explore the wider world, and give Huntress training her all.
