So good. It makes me feel so good inside. Please daddy give us more
HiI like their concept, still not 100% sure on what I like of their music if anything.
And now we know the title of the new album: "Humanz". And they released for more music videos:
It sounds like they're going for a more upbeat, inspirational tone this time around. And no story arc either, which I think is for the best.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Yes, a Gorillaz thread!
I like pretty much all I've heard of the new album so far. It definitely seems more synth-y while still keeping some of that alt rock/alt hip hop goodness. I can't wait for it to come out.
Well dang, the pre-orders for both of the Humanz 'Deluxe Vinyl' bundles have sold out twice in as much days. Can't really blame them, the super deluxe set looks sweet as hell.
When the songs first dropped I didn't care much for Ascension, but now it's tied for my favourite. The chorus is real catchy.
they/them || "Forgive me, regent of queer amphibians" - Lt.BGobWe've Got the Power is one I honestly can't stand. It's so in your face and flashy that it comes across as slightly shallow.
In other news, what the hell is up with those CGI designs? Uncanny Valley much?
"If you spend all your heart / On something that has died / You are not alive and that can't be a life"Pretty awesome that Damon and Noel Gallagher apparently buried the hatchet, at least enough for the latter to provide vocals for We Got The Power.
I think I'd go Andromeda> Ascension> We Got The Power> Saturnz Barz for now.
Anyone here interested in seeing the full tracklist/feature list?

"And kung fu is a terrible way to run a company" - alliteratorThey put another song on their You Tube channel.
That was okay, but it was a little bit weaker than the others.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Yeah, I wasn't overly fond of this one. I'm still holding out for more Andromeda/We Got the Power-esque songs. What do you guys think of the remixes? I don't like them all that much but I don't like House music either so I'm biased in that regard.
I liked the Andromeda remix.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.I loved Gorillaz when i watched this MV: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WXR-bCF5dbM 19-2000
http://nhacchoviet.vnI like their concept, but I'm still not 100% sure if I like their music. Even the two big ones (Feel Good Inc. and Clint Eastwood)
I like "Dirty Harry": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLnkQAeMbIM and "Feel Good Inc": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HyHNuVaZJ-k My favorite songs
https://nhacpro.vnI love Gorillaz' first two albums. The debut really got me puzzled as a kid, I didn't know what to think of a lot of those compositions which I sure couldn't call songs, like the singles I heard on TV. Stuff like "5/4" (probably the first uncommon meter song I ever heard), "Re-Hash", "Mic Check (Gravity)" - they all seemed like really spontaneous ideas and yet fell perfectly into place somewhere in the back of my head. And the singles were just awesome, obviously, especially the melancholic "Tomorrow Comes Today". Demon Days has been probably talked about countless times already, we all know exactly how good it is, so I'll only add that "DARE" is forever my favourite dance song, and "Fire Coming Out Of A Monkey's Head" is my favourite song with narration instead of singing (which is very difficult to pull off, if you ask me). It got all of the debut's weirdness structured and put to good use.
Plastic Beach is a very good one as well, not better than the first two, but I don't think it deserved all the flak it caught upon release. The general theme of polluted ocean fits well with that melancholy Gorillaz have always had, it just goes from the city to the ocean. If anything, there's more variety here: there's old Gorillaz soundalikes like "Stylo", electric thumpers like "Glitter Freeze" (and the thump is exactly what The Fall lacked severely), the deceptively happy single "Superfast Jellyfish", a couple of soothing Little Dragon collabs and that one song with Lou Reed which I didn't expect to grow on me.
As for Humanz, I don't really know if it'll grow on me at all. It feels more like some indie rap label's mixtape than something of its own. Just on the whole, there's too much talking on this one, too many words that don't come from 2D's mouth. And as good as some of these rappers may be, we all know, that the main strength of most rappers is personality. Now I gotta get used to their style and manner and not something that Gorillaz would offer me. With all the guest spots on Demon Days you could always feel an atmosphere permeating the record like a complete story. With Humanz, I feel like there's no place left at this VIP party for the hosts themselves.
I did like "Saturnz Barz" though.
Nonsense is better than no sense at all. They made a music video out of my favorite song on the album!
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.
Oh gosh, I am in love with this song.
Apparently Ace from the Gangreen Gang has replaced Murdoc, which is weird.
Never trust anyone who uses "degenerate" as an insult.Ace from the Gangrene Gang.
Now a guitarrist for Gorillaz.
Albarn. You got to teach me the licensing trick.
Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...Me so hype
HiSo I watched the video after being out of the loop for a while, and thought this was just a joke about Murdoc getting a weird re-design that unintentionally made him look like Ace... Looking things up, it is officially Ace in the video, as well as other official promo images etc (the current storyline has Murdoc in jail, so the band was in need of a temporary replacement bassist). I guess his appearance fits into the Gorillaz aesthetic well enough, and it sounds like it's something they did just because they could. I don't remember anything in Powerpuff Girls canon about Ace being musically inclined, but I guess there also isn't anything in canon contradicting that idea either.

One scene on the episode where Buttercup hangs with him shows them listening to lots of Thrash Metal. Does it count?

Growing up, it's like a civil war, don't turn away, it's something you can't ignore...I've been super into Humility since it launched. None of my friends seem to like it, which has been a real bummer, but I really like its fun, chill vibe. Best track since Plastic Beach, IMO.
I recently found the fan animated music video for Rhinestone Eyes, based on the official animatic. I was super into Gorillaz in high school, and I got into the music video lore and stuff - so I was really bummed when I learned about Rhinestone Eyes and that the video wasn't being produced. The animatic was fun though - and now it's been fully animated.
It's a bit janky at points, of course, but the guy spent 6 years making the video on and off and it's honestly such a blast to see the whole video in motion. It was like magic when I stumbled upon it. And the 3D animation for Cyborg Noodle is spot-on.
The complete album has debuted at a live show in Japan.
Tranz may be my favorite Gorillaz song since Feel Good.
This song needs more love.I remember hearing a sneak peek of Idaho on their humanz tour. Damon made everyone stop halfway through and then start over becuase his mic kept making a weird clicking noise. Good times. Damon was blackout drunk.
From the cherry, to the apple, to the peach, to the plum
New album is coming out, and they've released their first video for it.
About time we had a thread to discuss Gorillaz.
