Seen it, so what is the plot?
"We be we baby!"well it's about guy who's the first human to became the trollhunter. that's all i got really.
MIAYeah, no matter where I go, the info is very low.
"We be we baby!"It sucks really.
MIAWhat sucks? The lack of info or the show itself?
Because I've seen the first 2 episodes of the show itself and it seems to be quite fun so far.
I guess I'm not alone on this one. So what did you think of it so far? For me, although it was cilched, it was pretty good so far and finally some action.
MIAAs I said, I'm finding it to be quite fun, even if I'm only on the third episode so far.
Wheres it on?
Bide your time, and Hold out Hope — GANKUTSUOU Just because it's irrational, doesn't mean it's not real.Netflix i believe
MIAWith netflix original shows, its always bit hard to find discussion
With the huge exception of Voltron, of course.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).And how much of that was complaints?
It does take a few weeks for people to finish a season sometimes, debuting it at Christmastime may not have been the best move (even if ads for the show have decorated Madison Square Garden billboards for months) and it's not a hugely hyped show. That said, I saw the first three episodes back at NYCC and enjoyed them, Kelsey Grammer is great as the mentor troll, the voice work is top notch and the action is pretty good. It elevates your standard Henshin Hero past a generic premise.

Shows seems pretty okay-goodish, but I'm annoyed by reliance on old cringe/misunderstanding/embarrassment cliches involving hiding stuff .-.
The episodes that stray away from the cliches are good, but the ones that revolve around them are just awkward. Like the babysitting episode, or the "Jim's really overconfident and becomes a jerk" episode.
Like, I get that they had to add a ton of stuff relative to the book to make it last long enough and to make it at least somewhat episodic, but maybe they could have strayed away from the cliches a bit more than they did.
Not Three Laws compliant.that's one gripe that i had for it, it's a bit too different from the books. if followed it a bit closely than maybe it might come off as more or less good but then again tropes and cliches aren't bad, except you can do away cliches while you can't with most tropes. as they always said, there is no such thing as a tropless tale.
MIAFinally finished watching the season. I have to say it's a very pretty show. The designs really pop, in particular with the trolls and other creatures, and the animation is probably some of the best I've seen for TV-budged CGI.
The story and characters...yeah. The cliches and genericness really brings down the first half of the series. The second half is a bit better, but it still relies on some contrivances to move the plot along, mainly how Jim deals with Angor Rot and his decision in the season finale. It also bugs me how late it takes to move Claire from being Jim's "prize" to being into the fold. By the time that happens, she never gets a character flaw like Jim or Toby do, and thus never goes beyond being a generic, hyper-competent female lead. At least she gets a goal not involving him and progresses her relationship with him.
To avoid sounding like a downer, I really liked the troll main characters and supporting cast. They were delightful. I warmed up to Blinky really quickly and ARRRGH ended up being a more interesting character than I thought he'd be. I will miss him. The worldbuilding in general is also well-done, but that's no surprise from a Del Toro project.
I also found the villains interesting. I liked that they all had some relatable qualities. Even Bular, who is the most blatantly evil character in the season, also wants to see his father again, and Ancient Evil Awakens Gunmar ends up becoming a grieving father looking for revenge after Bular's death.
I'll watch the next season since the positives outweighed the negatives, but I hope there's tighter, less cliche writing by then.

Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Yeah bad guys were pretty cool and I do like the show even thought it does flaws
BTW, has anyone read the book? I wonder what are differences
Like, does book tell the whole story that show will probably take multiple seasons to tell
from glancing at it, it's kinda different.
MIAI haven't, but from the little I've heard, apparently the book is a bit more violent and ARRRGH! is actually female.
Also, in more spoiler-ish details, they touch more on Jim's dad, Jim's uncle, and how they're all tied to trolls.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).So almost finished watching season, noticed that the amulet has slots for like six stones? So what are going to be rest after triumbic stones? Well I guess Angor Rot's eye is fone of rest of three unless something changes before this beside is over
I had a feeling there would be more, but here's a season two confirmation and an interview with Del Toro.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).SHAKA WAKA *draws Dastardly Whiplash moustache*
When I saw Del Toro's name in the credits, I thought, "this is so him... I hope he doesn't go the way of Tim Burton and start repeating himself too much...:("
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.I don't think we need to worry about that too much. Del Toro is the guy who did both Crimson Peak and Pacific Rim and, regardless of how good you think those movies are, they have basically nothing in common. Del Toro has obvious influences and interests, but I think he can vary them up enough that he'll be fine.
Not Three Laws compliant.Mark Hamill, Lena Headey, and David Bradley are joining season two. It is also revealed who they're playing.
