Okay, stat total for level 1 looks good, but you need to change your speed growth rate - HP is the only growth rate that can go to 4, all others cap at 3.

You'll be entering the game at 8th level, 1 behind the rest of the party, with opportunities to make up the difference on future maps. You don't get to choose your stats past 1st level yet, I need to roll them.

So I hadn't technically approved you to start posting yet, but alright, I'm choosing to appreciate your enthusiasm in this case. The party has already left the islands, and is now arriving back in the city of Murgavio. Murgavio is the trade capitol of the continent, and lots of mercenaries pass through it regularly. This is Damien's entry point.

Hi, I'm a little nervous about signing up since I'm not really sure how well I'll do, but I made a character:

Name: Milliana

Age: 16 (Or rather the equivalent Laguz age)

Gender: Female

Appearance: Long, straight, and light pink colored hair. She has red eyes and has a rather soft expression on her face. She wears a white colored gown in her humanoid form and is somewhat short and youthful looking. Her wings are an even lighter colored pink to the point they nearly look white.

As a bird she takes the form of a large bird similar to a dove. It looks less vicious than most Laguz, but she is perfectly capable of inflicting damage with her sharp talons.

Personality: She is somewhat shy, but she's got a sense of justice that burns in her heart. She's not about to leave people in trouble and tries her best to assist anyone that needs help. She's also very inexperienced and has not yet learned many things about the world due to her hometown being rather reclusive. She is also very prim and proper having been the leader of her village's daughter and having those expectations upon her.

Background: Milliana came from a reclusive town that tried to keep itself hidden from the war. She was the leader of the village's daughter and was trained by her father to understand and be able to harness her Laguz powers.

Despite their willingness to teach her how to use her powers they refused to get themselves involved with the war, instead preferring neutrality and pacifism. The only reason they taught her was to respect the natural abilities their kind had been blessed with.

They told Millie they never wanted her to ever actually USE her powers and that as the leader's daughter she has a responsibility to uphold the values of the village.

She was resigned to never using her powers and never truly minded due to not wanting to hurt others, but eventually their peaceful little village was attacked by the Vissean army as they were expanding their territory.

It was a struggle, but Milliana managed to get away from the troops and ran to get help... sadly she had no idea where she was going and got lost. This is how she ends up meeting the heroes. She finally got tired of being forced to run away and realized that she could prevent more people from getting hurt with her powers and decides to join the heroes.

Resistance (Growth Rate): 4 (1)

Well, can't say anything one way or the other about most of it, but as for the stats... well, honestly I'm not sure what kind of character you're trying to make here. I mean, at first glance it seems like you might be trying for a sort of "myrmidon" build, but then there's that random bit of magic which makes me think you might try some form of magic at some point... and then there's the complete inability to take a hit- which is fairly standard for high-speed characters, admittedly, but still.

Also, since you will presumably be joining at level 9, could you post what weapon skills you'll have by the time you actually show up, should you be accepted? Not that I see any particular reason you'd be rejected, but I'm not the GM.

I did not expect to have cause to use the line "STOP DROPPING YOUR ASSES!" but DQ 11 gave it to me.

Alright, so in order to facilitate your character concept, all I think I need to do first off is remove the requirement that laguz characters take Clips as their starting proficiency, allowing you to choose any weapon or magic proficiency in its place. I'll also add the following feat:

  • Anthropomorph (Requires level 10 and Laguz): Your humanoid form takes on more of the characteristics of your bestial form.
    • Beast Laguz: Your humanoid form gains claws, allowing you to attack with Clips in your humanoid form.
    • Bird Laguz: Your humanoid form gains wings and is unimpeded by difficult or impassible terrain other than interior walls.
    • Dragon Laguz: Your humanoid form gains tough scales which raise its Defense by 5.

Your starting stats as of the latest revision in Discord look good, although you may want to readjust your growth rates now that the allowed range has been clarified as 0-3 instead of 1-3.

Your backstory looks pretty good, although it'll have a couple slight tweaks. Bird Laguz are native to the country of Reginbor, at the far northern tip of Tropera, where in the past they were revered as messengers of the gods, and continue to enjoy positions of respect and admiration within Regin culture. Reginbor is not currently engaged in war with Vissan, but its former colony, Murinor, was conquered by them over a century ago. We can say that your village was hidden in the deep woods of Murinor, where it passed the decades in secret, until recently it was discovered. You seeking help from Calderia, but the ship you stowed away on brought you to Chamur instead.

If this all sounds good to you, then Milliana is approved pending any adjustments you want to make to her growth rates/weapon proficiencies, and leveling her up to 9th once your growth rates are confirmed.

Skill (Growth Rate): 4 (2)

Speed (Growth Rate): 6 (2)

Luck (Growth Rate): 7 (3)

Defense (Growth Rate): 5 (1)

Resistance (Growth Rate): 5 (3)

Are these growths good? Also she will use staves if that's all right. Thank you very much!

So basically I take four of the stats listed for each level up and add +1 the total of each stat? And what about the free points? The stats I'm choosing are:

Level 2: HP, Mag, Spd, Lck

Level 3: HP, Mag, Lck, Res

Level 4: Mag, Skl, Lck, Res, +1 Staff Rank

Level 5: Mag, Skl, Lck, Res, Free Point: Spd

Level 6: Mag, Spd, Lck, Res, Free Points: Skl, Def

Level 7: HP, Mag, Lck, Res

Level 8: Mag, Sped, Def, Res, +1 Staff Rank

Level 9: HP, Mag, Spd, Def, Free Point: Lck

I'm not entirely sure what the free points are... Do I just add them as well as the chosen stats? Sorry if I'm being dense.

Also may I ask how having more than one weapon type works?

Free point basically means that if Wryte rolls high enough, you get that stat and it doesn't count against your 4 per level. It's the entire reason Grendan (who exclusively uses physical weapons) has a point of Magic.

Somehow that doesn't feel as clearly-explained as I thought it would, but I'm not very good at explaining things.

I did not expect to have cause to use the line "STOP DROPPING YOUR ASSES!" but DQ 11 gave it to me.

So with the level ups and free points my stats end up as (If I did my math correctly):

Hit Points (Growth Rate): 17 (2)

Strength (Growth Rate): 0 (0)

Magic (Growth Rate): 13 (3)

Skill (Growth Rate): 7 (2)

Speed (Growth Rate): 11 (2)

Luck (Growth Rate): 14 (3)

Defense (Growth Rate): 8 (1)

Resistance (Growth Rate): 11 (3)

Staff Rank +2

... Or am I allowed to let her have another weapon type as well instead of giving her another rank in staves?

Hello; I notice that you have a signup spot available and, as somebody with a peripheral interest in Fire Emblem whose second roleplay on another website seems to have died an unceremonious death, I think I might get involved if that's alright with all of you!

I already have a character and backstory in mind and think that I grasp the basics of the mechanics of combat. I do, however, have a few questions regarding the latter:

  • Would a Laguz who equips a weapon in human form and then transforms into their animal form still have that weapon equipped upon transforming back into their human form?
  • Would a Laguz with Quick Draw transform automatically to equip either clips or a weapon if one is advantageous? It seems that one could interpret the feat that way but I'd prefer to be sure that it can be applied like that before taking it.
  • Can a Beast Laguz use Trample when not in their animal form? Same situation as the above.

Also, might I ask where the party currently is and its current objective? I think that it would be a good idea to make sure that the character that I'm thinking of would have a reason to both be in the vicinity of and want to stay with everyone else; if not, there wouldn't be much point in my attempting to sign up!

Speaking purely as a player, giving my expectations of the answers to your questions in the order they were asked...

1. I would expect so, yes. Using a staff doesn't remove whatever weapon you were using at the time, and (more relevantly) we have changed weapons mid-turn without issue, so it seems likely, and even if it doesn't I think you can specify what weapon you'll equip in the same turn.

2. Highly doubtful. If it DOES, I'd expect that you'd get one transformation that way, at most. After all, transforming is a once-per-turn kind of action, and I doubt doing it on the enemy phase would change that. In other words: No, because of the transformation speed.

3. If they qualify for a feat in human form, they can use it as normal; however, they presumably need the prerequisites to use any feats they have. Trampling on foot doesn't seem very likely to me.

Hope these speculative answers help you, and apologies in advance if it takes Wryte a while to get to you; he's having some personal problems right now.

edit: Kinda forgot to address the "current activities" thing. Anyway, we're currently between maps after clearing the Sowtland region (for the foreseeable future), and I'm pretty sure we're in the process of deciding where to go next. That enough of an answer for you to work with?

[up]Pretty much confirms which of the two options that I'd come up with I'll be going for, yes; thank you! Don't feel the need to apologise; I hope that Wryte's alright and will be back soon.

By the way, if you're still deciding where to go, from my point of view going to Reginbor would work rather well!

Edit: Oh, one more thing - how does one improve the Movement statistic? I'm going to be going for a skirmisher build, so this is rather important.

Edit 2: One more one more thing, apparently! To what degree are the players allowed to flesh out the world themselves, or is this done at Wryte's sole discretion?

[up]Hmm... My plan still works! Working on a profile now.

Edit: Here it is! I hope that everything's okay.

  • Name: Inuksuk/Ingolf

  • Age: 22

  • Appearance: In animal form, Inuksuk appears as a lithe grey wolf with a greyish-brown pelt and startling light grey-green eyes. In human form he retains the eyes and the fur colour translates to the colour of his hair, which he keeps to a utilitarian length, while his skin is pale to a degree that straddles the divide between human and inhuman; he typically wears a tunic and cloak similar in colour to his pelt as a wolf, including a hood and a strip of cloth that can be tied across the lower face like a bandana to conceal his identity, along with a simple rope belt which holds a knife (for utility rather than as a weapon), a quiver for arrows and a pouch for useful items such as flint and pyrite to create sparks and plants and fungi with medicinal properties.

  • Personality: Inuksuk used to be a driven, passionate individual, fascinated by the world around him and desiring nothing else but to exist within it with the people he loved. Now, he is a broken man; his passion is gone, his drive replaced with feelings of inadequacy, guilt and an aching hole in his heart that can never be filled and only briefly soothed. The only thing keeping him going at the moment is his fondness for Milliana, who he increasingly sees as something akin to a younger sister.

  • Background:

Inuksuk was born into a pack of grey wolf Laguz in the forested mountains of eastern Reginbor. His childhood was spent learning how to hunt, mastering the arts of tooth, claw, and bow, as well as how to survive in and understand the wilderness on a fundamentally instinctual level. Maturing more slowly than a wolf would but more rapidly than a normal human, he brought down his first caribou at six and was recognised as a full member of the pack by their custom at twelve.

Two years later, Inuksuk’s fate shifted irrevocably. The territory of Inuksuk’s pack ended at the river that divided Reginbor from east to west - and where water runs, there are people and settlements. Typically the pack left the human villages alone but, when the winter was particularly cold and food scarce, they would sometimes come down out of the forest to kill a few livestock. This, of course, did not leave them enamoured to the people living in these villages; thus, one could predict the potential for problems when Inuksuk set eyes on Runa, the daughter of a butcher in the village of Torpdalr, in the woods while out on a hunt, she having gone to explore out of simple adventurousness and a little youthful impetuousness. The two (after Inuksuk had taken human form) managed some basic communication despite the language barrier and Inuksuk, his own curiosity piqued, found himself going back to the same spot more and more often, gradually learning Runa’s speech and, through her, the customs of her people, while she learned his. As he grew more and more attached to the flaxen-haired, sharp-tongued young woman he started to visit Torpdalr itself, taking ‘Ingolf’ as an alias and selling spare kills to Runa’s father, all the while keeping his true identity under wraps. Eventually, three years after their chance meeting, he simply severed his ties to his pack, leaving them believing that he had betrayed his true kin for a cushier, more comfortable existence - which, in a way, he had - and, after working with the local stonemason to build a home for himself, asked Runa for her hand in marriage.

Their life for a while was comparatively blissful. Inuksuk, as Ingolf to all but Runa, continued his hunting - west of the river - and became known to the rest of the village for his seemingly supernatural ability to bring home kills, as well as his keen and focussed instincts and mind more generally, while Runa herself dabbled in herbalism and eventually elected to learn the skills of the local healer. On evenings when the former was not out in the wilderness the pair would often spend their time discussing and debating minute points surrounding the plant life around Torpdalr, as well as simply inquiring after the events of each other’s daily activities. The two were happy and, though Inuksuk had been told vague tales by the elders of his pack of the loss of his wolf form should the union of a human and one of their own bear fruit, both Runa and Ingolf hoped for children.

It was not to be. A member of the village, inquiring at the house, found a wolf curled up on the floor of Ingolf’s home, Runa stroking its fur and the man himself nowhere to be seen - and then, before his very eyes, that wolf transform into Ingolf. A wave of fury broke out at the news and the two were banished in disgrace from the village that Runa had known all her life and Inuksuk had come to think of as his home, he for the crimes of his race and she for harbouring him. Unable even to return to Inuksuk’s old pack, the two for a while managed to eke out an existence in Reginbor’s wilds but, in a bitter and ironic twist of fate, Runa fell ill with a fever that she could not cure and died, leaving only memories and a body behind.

Thus, a year ago, the last piece of Inuksuk’s life and identity was shattered. Grief-stricken and purposeless, he wandered Reginbor, stopping in the occasional settlement to perform some kind of aid but never staying for long. It was in this way that he met with Milliana, headed for a port city to take her to the faraway land of Calderia and, after essentially no thought whatsoever, he agreed to accompany her - it was something to do, something that might break him out of his listlessness. He too, therefore, ended up stowing away on the ship that would carry them to Chamur (entirely too humid for his liking) and he too will soon encounter the party. What happens after that, of course, remains to be seen.
