Wait, so now the Symbiote offers up Peter's memories to its new host? Why didn't it do that with Flash? Can it just pick the hosts it does that with or...?
Unless Flash didn't say anything out of respect for Peter and his privacy, that seems a bit glaring.
Also, this feels really fast, even though it's like the fifth episode of the season.
This series really needs to slow down and try to breathe.
But considering it's already being cancelled after two seasons, I guess they wanted to put in as much as possible.
One Strip! One Strip!I doubt the cast and crew knew that far ahead in advance that the show is ending. The rushed pacing is an issue even in the first season.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Maybe the Symbiot just had not grown intelligent enough at this point to use that knowledge? It was acting much more feral in season 1.
I hope the episode explains it like that.
Otherwise I'm gonna be wondering if Flash Thompson knows who Peter is until the end of the series.
That is possible. I considered such a possibility myself.
Still, a statement is needed.
One Strip! One Strip!Saw the new episode.
Okay, so the Symbiote learned how to speak to Eddie because of being experimented on. Good enough of a Hand Wave. Still moved a bit fast, and Eddie's character could have been better developed, but it looks like they're going with an arc structure now. I also liked how the Symbiote is almost unaffected by noise now due to said experiments.
As I predicted, they really rushed Eddie's hatred of Peter, and eventually, Spider-Man because they kept him as a gag before. I really miss early season one's multi-layered story telling where they were able to develop multiple subplots at once, even when they had nothing to do with the main plot. The only effective scene with him is when he confronts Peter in his room, both because it was actually tense and because him looking over Peter's fortunate life makes him a tiny bit sympathetic. Pronsky did an okay job with Eddie, but the voice filter they used on Venom is kinda bad.
The house party subplot didn't really lead anywhere and it didn't gel well with the Venom main plot. I was expecting Venom to target Gwen, Anya, Max, or Aleksei, but the plots barely met. I think it would've been better suited for a lighter episode.
I will say that I liked Miles actually looking out for Peter. The show's been telling us they're good friends, but this is the first time that it really feels like it. I also liked that Aunt May was completely cool with Peter throwing a party in the house. It subverts a bit of cliche conflict and it makes sense for both characters: May is pretty down-to-earth in the little we see of her, and Peter's a good, responsible kid who doesn't seem to have the misunderstandings he usually does with other versions of her.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).So funny story. Remember this post I made:
It was the same thing with Black Widow in Spider Island part 2: he should have been prepared for the Grenade, but he didn't see it coming.
I was re-watching Spider Island part 2 and Peter's spider sense actually did go off just before Widow threw the grenade. He even caught it in his hand on pure reflex. What happened is that he didn't realize what it was until it was too late.
Still doesn't excuse Ms. Marvel smashing him into the ground like that, but hey. When I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
One Strip! One Strip!Miles and Anya doing that robot thing together is so adorable, especially since Anya is usually the most uptight of the gang.
I wonder if the nest episode will show the chess match between Gwen Stacy and Max. I'm rooting for Max but if they show the chess match I'm sure they'll have Gwen win.
It is nice that Max attended Peter's party. I took it as a way of showing that Max does like Peter and only pressured Peter about tuition because Max's job demanded it.
No, Mr. Bunker, "this here" is justice..So, what is the overall opinion on this show?
I know it's not as good as ...that other show from 2008/2009, but how have people compared it to Ultimate, or even stuff like the 90's series?
I asked because I've seen a few videos about this being the worst Spiderman series, and I find that hard to believe with Ultimate around...but then again, that series was allowed the chance to Grow the Beard .
Something this series apparently isn't going to get if it's being cancelled again.
What have you guys heard from other people watching it?
One Strip! One Strip! To be the worst Spider-Man series, it would need to be worse than Spider-Man MTV. Which ain't happening.
Every new show starring a popular character gets those "this new version of something I associate with my childhood is the worst ever!" reactions. Over time, though, I've seen the show get a decently warm reception. Not glowing, but it's been growing the beard and I've seen people acknowledge that.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain.I get more frustrated with it compared to USM. It has every opportunity to be great and it does have a lot of good ideas, but due to its rushed pacing and clumsy execution, it falls short. I'm invested enough to keep watching, though, and it's still the strongest out of the current Marvel Animation line up.
USM was just loud and obnoxious from the get-go. I tried jumping back in at multiple points, but I just couldn't get into it at all.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).Why doesn't Venom set off Miles' Spider Sense, again? I forgot to bring that up last week, but it's kind of weird. He explicitly makes Peter's fail because the symbiote bonded with him.

Yeah, I saw those videos, and it still baffles me. Again, this show isn't perfect, and yes, if you compare it to Spectacular it's less good, but frankly saying it's worse than USM (which as far as I am concerned was insulting both Spider-Man and our intelligence) is absurd. I think that's just fans not getting over Spectacular being cancelled and insisting that all the shows that follow are crap in the absurd hope their favourite show will somehow be brought back. Just check how many comments about it are a variant of "This show sucks, bring Spectacular back."
It's a good show, average at worst. The reason many youtubers like to rant about it is because it gives easy views since they know that there's already a audience ready to hate on it because it's not Spectacular. Mind you, many of them are first time youtubers or this was their first "review" video. Heck, I've seen some videos from channels I follow who are fans of SSM and yet they like MSM. The worst episodes are filler episodes (with the Ms. Marvel being the worst imo). I find the show is strongest with it's multiple arc episodes, with Spider-Island being the peak.
As I said earlier, I really feel like the show would have just been better in a universe where the Avengers as a team didn't exist/haven't properly formed, since they feel weirdly out of place when the series puts major focus on them.
Not to mention it's weird when situations where they could logically get involved, like Spider-Island when everyone is mutating, but have them as no-shows; instead we have an episode where Pete, Gwen, and Black Widow fought HYDRA, and it has about as much effect on the arc as you'd expect.

Agree. At worst the Avengers should at least be starting to form as a team in this universe. And I know I am late on this but also agree that Ms. Marvel . . . Kamala not Carol, being a more serious experienced hero than Spider-Man is just weird. The equivalent of that is Deku being portrayed as an already highly regarded hero and treating Saitama as the rookie who wants to be as cool as him.
This is one time the existence of other super hero teams actually hinders the plot. At least with EMH they have the excuse of being a huge universe where every team have their own story and adventures that doesn’t have them getting directly involved with the major events that are happening (ie Fantastic Four being off on their adventures making them unavailable during Kang’s invansion and the Skrull Invasion).
I’ve said this before but I blame movies.
Cause now Spidey has been afflicted with the status as the “newbie” & “beginner”.
And it’s really annoying as Spidey is losing his superhero independeance as a result.

"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."I don't necessarily mind it, but if I were going to blame anything it'd be classic nostalgia increasingly being a major factor in writing and adapting Spidey ever since OMD. Marvel was doing this in adaptations well before the movies started doing it: it was even a thing way back in Earths Mightiest Heroes, iirc.

The nostalgia afflicting Spidey is extremely problematic.
Seriously all that “First Installment” nostalgia is very annoying.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Preview of "Bring On the Bad Guys". Apparently, this is going to be a four-parter.
The Hippo and Panda-Mania, both D-listers.
