Concept: CIL (Common Interstellar Language)

CIL is exactly that- a language developed by the Galactic Community for purposes of communication between different sentient races. The language is thousands of Earth-years old but constantly updated to fit in with new member races. Translator devices are programmed to account for nonverbal communication as well.

Of interesting note is that CIL has counterparts in other universes, often close enough that a general understanding is possible between them. The Traveler speaks CIL.

I'm wondering why Emp isn't trying to use any of her EMP powers on Rick. He's a robot, and he's in a army depot so he's got access to weapons.

[up]Because she wants to cause a ruckus by luring him outside, and was too cocky to think she'd encounter this sort of resistance. Short-sighted, remember. :V (Besides, she tried to use an EMP pulse earlier but she didn't absorb enough electricity for it to do much besides turn off the lights, and since using EMP pulses expels all her stolen electricity, she now can't use her powers without absorbing some more.)

I should point out that RICK isn't going to recognize Emp's phone, its technology from way after it was stored away. OTOH, it might conclude its a remote control for something...

Damn, I didn't even think of that. Ah well. Not like Emp would have been smart enough to figure it out by herself, anyway.

Proposal: The Nature of Magic

Magic is, technically speaking, the same force everywhere in the universe. This is because its actually a form of energy from another dimension that "leaks" into ours. However, it is highly susceptible to the beliefs of sentient minds.

This results in the existence of multiple styles of magic, all coexisting but with different rules. A wizard who learns spoken spells, for example, is tapping the same force as one who uses talismans- just in different ways. Their spells are equally effective.

This also explains all the different mythologies. Magic tends to accumulate naturally on objects and creatures, creating monsters and 'gods'- again, influenced by the beliefs of the cultures that worshiped them.

That does square with Hazel and other Fair Folk being from another dimension, so I definitely approve.

Roll Call 2: Electric Bugaloo

Yep I'm doing it again, a list of currently active players. But this time with a spin: I'm listing *all* their creations so they can choose which to use, after all that's always been the idea. I'm going to need some time though. Expect it soon. (No, you don't have to wait for this list, start or continue playing if you want.)

I'm still here, though in limited capacity! Xy's taking a break, so that just leaves me with Julian...I really need to think of a good super name for her, though. Between extra shifts at work and...the utter chaos of my current living situation, I've been having a hard time staying on here long. I promise that I'll do what I can, though.

Artifisers
Artifises / Artifax

A "Gizmatic" is a short hand term for the specific metagene trait, "Intuition, Mechanic subclass." It's named for The Amazing Gizmatic, an old-timey super heroine who built "Amazing Gizmos!" with her intuitive grasps of engineering principles. Intuition is a subtle Esper or ESP trait, itself a subcategory of the Psychic or Psi trait. The Esper trait is a category that encompasses Foresight, Postcognition, Farsight, Empathy, Mind Reading and pretty much every "extra sensory" psychic ability. The Intuition trait involves a simple "knowing" of things, usually a particular subject. The Mechanic subclass is self-explanatory.

Okay, that understood? Do ya get it? Okay, cool, great.

That's not what a so-called "Artifiser" is, although they may look the same on the outside and often an Artifiser sincerely believes they are another gizmatic. What they are is somewhat contentious, and the name they have comes from the earlier theories surrounding their powers, that they are merely delusional artificer mages. It was proven not be the case, not entirely, but the name stuck with tongue-in-cheek mispelling denoting the unreality of their creations.

Reality warpers, mages, actually hyper-advanced gizmatics, in touch with the "power cosmic", so no one has been able to figure out how so-called artifisers works except that their artifax should not. They're only tangentially based on natural laws, unless there are exceptions that they seem able to take advantage off that the rest of us can't fathom. They seem to mostly function because some guy said so.

An Artifiser is judged on several different traits: How spectacular can his inventions get? How many natural laws can he violate before things go wrong? Go wrong how, simply not working or does it go "berserk"? Can someone else operate his inventions? If he dies, do his inventions keep on working?

Whatever part of the brain governs this ability makes the rest of the mind just as wonky as their inventions. Artifisers are notably more prone to mental disorders and neuro-atypical behavior.

I want to add an organization: Foundation for the Future. Group of superhuman elitists. They're the ones behind the creation of the School for the Future Heroes. Their intent was to create talents that would join their side in achieving their end goal. So, what is their end goal, then? It's a world where superhumans rule. They are essentially supremacists. They see themselves as the new masters of Earth, so they try to destroy current order and create their own. After the establishing their order, they plan on making normal humans their slaves.

Foundation, however, has a caste system. They are divided like this:

Elites: those of great power and skill. Usually, they are mages (or someone like them).

Slaves: those who transform into animals, those who are disfigured due to their powers and those who are weak.

Commoners: Between Elites and Slaves.

Foundation has a core belief of Social Darwinism. They believe the rulers of this Earth should be powerful, skillful and attractive (though attractiveness is far from an important factor). That is why they are also trying to turn Dwellers/Tunnel People into their slaves, but they haven't tried doing that yet. They are planning to do that after Project Loyalty is finished (see below).

Jessica Mitchell is a combat leader of the Foundation. She is the leader of the combatants. She is called Sword Storm.

Damien Anderson is a Slaver. He is in charge of brainwashing the slaves. Damien is planning a Project Loyalty. It's essentially making slaves blindly obedient to their masters by breaking their sanity.

(I'll include these characters soon enough in the Sign-up thread).

They have their secret base in Easton, as well as other cities in the USA.

Carnifexes:

Combat forces for the Foundation for the Future. Another Mooks. Their leader is Sword Storm. They also have their own subcategories:

War Beasts:

Animal supers under the control of the Foundation. They are the victims of the Project Loyalty (brainwashing by breaking the person's sanity). Tigers, bears, boars, spiders... Any kind of animal. Even dinosaurs.

Arcane Warriors:

Magic users. Wizards. Mages. Whatever. Each of them specialize in one type of magic. They also recruit potential magic users (or people like Hazel). Might be of interest to magic users.

Undying:

Mummies. Their leaders are pharaos. The Egyptian magic they have is a pretty useful tool, so they are a valuable asset to the Foundation. Undying are also needed to capture other supernatural creatures.
