They kind of have, but more on a low level basis. Consider this: Danny is too rich to get touched by something like this, Matt is currently dead and nobody knows that he is daredevil anyway, Luke is on very thin ice but I guess the whole "innocent in prison and now hero of the people" part kind of protects him and Jessica is just a detective.

I really need to rewatch Defenders to find out how Jessica and Luke got away with kidnapping Matt.

Trying to reason with that guy was impossible. I mean, that guy seemed to think the Accords would mean Luke should be getting put in the Raft for beating up Cockroach. When the reality is that if the Accords were that broad, shouldn't Spider-Man stopping a bank robbery land him in the Raft by this definition? And would the US government really want to risk the backlash that would come if they incarcerated Luke for that? He was already exonerated once for a crime he did not commit, sending him back again would be the wrong thing to do. There would be protests and riots.

And of course, the meta reason the Accords are never brought up is, it's a bit weird to now go and say that the government has suddenly passed legislation requiring the registration of powered persons, which the shows haven't ever hinted at or alluded to as something that was even being considered.

[up] Don't see a problem with that. The show made clear that more and more powered people are turning up and that they already need specialized lawyers. The accords are just the next step.

The Accords is mainly in response to international affairs. The Avengers border-jumping however and wherever they please to engage terrorist cells and privatize world peace.

Some street-level New Yorker fighting other New Yorkers is not really within the Accords' purview.

The Accords weren't the superhuman registration act - they seemed to specifically target the Avengers, not all superhumans. Agents of SHIELD threw a spanner in the works by saying it does apply to their inhumans but they do sometimes act internationally so I think the simplest answer would be that the UN don't really care about anything that stays within a single city.

Well, the Inhumans are an international concern because ooops it turns out that there is a community of superpowered people. And the idea that there might be a weapons race around powered people also makes sense.

But yes, the accords were a registration act. You can either submit your information and "retire" (meaning don't operate across borders and don't make too much trouble) or you can operate under the accords. I suspect that the data of both Jessica and Luke were simply taken during their various stints in prison. And Danny is naturally to rich to have such laws apply to him. Plus, the are kind of vague how well-known his fist is.

The thing here is that the films, Agents of, and the Netflix shows have nothing to do with each other outside of small references. How each handles the Accords, and that's assuming the Netflix shows actually did use them at any point, will naturally be different from one another.

[up]Right. This sort of inconsistency also happens all the time in the comics. Agents of SHIELD retconned the Accords into something more akin to a classic Superhero Registration Act for their own story purposes, while the Netflix shows haven't alluded to the Accords but have subjected their heroes to the prejudices and paranoia that comes with superpowered people (like when Mariah was pushing the NYPD to use Diamondback's Judas bullets by playing on peoples' fears; or when Reyes was planning a campaign based on persecution of gifted vigilante types; or that subplot with Audrey Eastman; Jessica's initial clashes with Oscar; or a lot of things to do with Jessica's mother in Jessica Jones season 2; hell, they alluded to the Raft in Jessica Jones season 2 during Jessica's first conversation with her mom).

I think people should really give up on trying to make sense of everything in the MCU. No matter what the 'officials' say, shows and films are 2 different entities, period. Don't expect a films producer to change all their year long plans just because one show has introduced a group of people (The Inhumans) a little earlier. Likewise, don't expect a Netflix producer to work in some convoluted changes to a respective series because in the films series, superpowered individuals are operating under some accords. It's just not gonna work. A universe of this magnitude CAN'T be 100% coherent. And frankly, if Feige says that the shows can never ever influence the movies, why should the reverse be the case?

In that respect, the MCU is just like the original Marvel Universe. Crossovers happen, and the overall verse is the same, but trying to make too much sense of it all takes away from enjoying the content.

[up] Which is okay to a certain degree, but the MCU is different than the Marvel verse. It actually has a functioning timeline (or at least it had one until Homecoming), and it is therefore way tighter written.

Plus, the Netflix shows do acknowledge stuff from the movies. Like the Raft.

Yeah, but the point is that these references should be seen as a bonus. A fan service so to speak, not a requirement.

I'd be completely fine if they said 'we have a film universe and a tv universe' or even 'all the tv shows are standalone unless otherwise noted' but the fact is, the official line is 'everything is set in the same universe' and they do awfully at making it that way.

I wouldn't say "awful". A little bit more effort would be nice, but I see the point of wanting the Netflix shows work as their own little universe. And there is certainly no need to address larger events in Runaways or Cloak and Dagger.

I feel like a good show could easily stand on its own (and the Netflix ones feed into each other anyway); it probably helped at first - Agents of SHIELD definitely, as a lot of Season 1 was 'remember THIS film?' but at this point anybody who cares enough to pay attention knows how weak the link is.

[up] Oh, I disagree. That was never what Ao S was about. It always showed the larger impact of heroes and powered people on the world. And being able to see The Winter Soldier from a different perspective was brilliant.

But it can't be disputed that the show became gradually better the more it distanced itself from the references and did it's own thing.

[up] Actually, it can. The Winter Soldier arc is still the best they have done. Not as great as the backend of season 4, but I take it over the Ghost rider arc AND the whole of season 5 any day. It is the episodes beforehand, when the show was setting things up and waiting around for something to happen and frankly, I feel that season 5 suffered a little bit by being too removed from everything else.

Even the mainline films of the MCU get wonky every now and then. The events of Iron Man 3, which include a vast government conspiracy involving the US vice-president, a cadre of oil barons and the kidnapping of the US President on live tv is left completely unremarked literally everywhere else of the MCU.

The president itself isn't, though. He is later targeted by Hydra and has guest appearances in Ao S.

In the first episode of Season 2, Luke was described as having "Barack's easy smile, Martin's charm and Malcolm's forthright swagger." In the fifth episode, we see a picture of Piranha Jones posing with Obama.

As for Trump, in the S2 finale Luke's intention to 'Make Harlem great again' is met with D.W. calling him 'Luke Trump'.

Did they ever give the president from Iron Man 3 a name? Maybe he's President Zeppo Trump.
