Didn't Steven learn to summon his shield in the Uncle Grandpa episode?
No; he already had it as of "The Return" at the very latest, which was before "Say Uncle."
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster. But "Say Uncle" was where he learned to do it consistently!
It may not fit the very strict guidelines of official Filler but there are definitely episodes that are a lot less relevant than others. Like Kiki's Pizza Delivery Service.
Oissu! Not that anyone here has necessarily said this, but I've never agreed with the contempt a lot of fans have for the "townie episodes" mostly because I like most of them and they serve a purpose by giving us some insight into who Steven is fighting to protect besides just the gems. That being said I am obviously more interested in the grander plot and learning more about Homeworld.
I like them more when they feel like they're at least somewhat influenced by the main plot, or have their own ongoing plots, and I feel like more recent episodes have been better about that.
Oh God! Natural light!Same. I realize that they're not actually filler and that the status quo changes quite a lot, but the events that occur in them tend to be a lot less engaging than the ones that deal more directly with Homeworld and the like. Helps to imbue them with a sense of purpose, like the various townie episodes surrounding Steven and Connie's "breakup".

@FerrousMaelstom: It would be raising an army that might as well be made of cardboard even with a generous helping of Sci-Fi Writers Have No Sense of Scale.
As far as what questions remain, how the Gem Empire (and Gems as a whole) came to be is a rather big one, along with White Diamond.

There's some I like more than others, like you said ones that have a lasting impact on the town's status quo are nice. I don't mind the Sadie + Cool Kids band ones. Town episodes where the gems interact with humans tend to be nice (the exception being Ronaldo episodes, those should never have come into being).
Oissu! My opinions on townie episodes vary depending on how much I like the particular townie.
All townie episodes should focus on Ronaldo. He is the hero this show needs.

Followed by "How Steven Universe got Cancelled"
Uni catI like plenty of the townie episodes (mostly all of them except for any involving Ronaldo, who is just the worst), but I'd be happy if we never see any again.
I always found it kind of weird how Ronaldo got more focus than Peedee, his brother who, besides Connie, is his peer of around the same age.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).It's probably because Peedee is a Ridiculously Average Guy, so there's just not that much room to write stories about him.
Reminder: Offscreen Villainy does not count towards Complete Monster.Nobody likes Ronaldo. Not even in-universe. Except for his girlfriend...who dumped him in the same episode she was mentioned.
Not even Steven likes him that much anymore.
I think the only human who is less liked is Kevin and he at least doesn't appear nearly as often.

Disgusted, but not surprisedTo be fair, Ronaldo getting dumped wasn't really his fault.
I'd almost feel bad for him...except it's Ronaldo.

Disgusted, but not surprisedWhat if White Diamond is actually Ronaldo?
That's his gemsona!
And now I'm reminded of the "Above Suspicion" chapter from 100 Words A Day III.
breaking off Ronaldo for a minute, I've been thinking about those French episode titles, and got an idea; What if the order they were in on the TV guide isn't their actual order? After all, "Now We're Only Falling Apart", the last episode listed, is a very accurate description of the clip of the (presumably) next episode in the "new episodes this Summer" promo.
