Illumination Entertainment is back and seem to be making a another movie about a World of Funny Animals.

But this time... with American Idol!

Also Matthew Mcconaughey plays as koala running a theater, Reese Witherspoon as a single mom pig and... Seth Mac Farlane as a mooth talking jazz singing mouse!?!?!

Weird, but sign me up!

Here are some audition clips, and a teaser will debut in Presidents Day. (February 15)

The movie is set to release this Christmas (here is a poster)

As if we didn't have enough Funny Animal movies coming out this year. tongue

Better keep an eye on this to see if it's any good...

[up][up] @Paint.: Super quick question, how did you manage to embed more than one You Tube video?

I was under the impression that we could only post the one video.

Wow, they got Seth macfarlane as a mouse here. I guess he doesn't have anything better to do then.

Actually, he's a really good singer, believe it or not. I can see why he'd be in this.

Have you any dreams you'd like to sell?

Illumination's track record inspires no sort of greatness to me... And Animal American Idol over here ain't helping that case out for me, either.

I will admit Seth can sing pretty good, but I do wish he'd do his own band rather than do things like this.

It looks good to me. But if it wants to be big in a year of great Funny Animal movies like KFP3 and Zootopia, it better have a story beyond "animals singing pop songs".

Is that not what the lyric always was?

Apparently so. Guess I just lost my mind, then.

Ok... Well, I don't wish to be pessimistic, but animals singing pop songs does not sound like it could carry a whole film.

Maybe its juts my distaste of pop songs that is saying this... or maybe its having Seth M. in it, or being done by Illumination.

Ya, I'm weird like that...

[up] This is what I was afraid about when I making this thread....

But I'll sadly have to disagree...

1. Oh boy... Please tell me you not those type of people.

Not all pop songs are bad, and even that's the case, the moive will have songs from the past. But seriously, what's wrong with pop songs?

Well, at least I hope you aren't those type of people

2. Let's NOT make this thread into the Bordertown thread a while back.

Please...

3. And? What did Illumination did?

Just from the teaser I'm getting bad vibes from this movie.

Something seems off.

[up][up]You're kind of overreacting to a pretty inoffensive post.

1. It's not a matter of all pop songs being bad, so much as the guy not caring much for most pop music. I don't see an issue. Accusing someone of having a Nostalgia Filter because of this doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

2. There is nothing wrong with laying criticism on Seth Macfarlane, although the fact that he is only a VA in this and doesn't have any kind of writing or producer influence on this is something to note. I've always thought he was a pretty good voice actor in his own right, but whatever.

3. Illumination has yet to make a solidly above average film. Despicable Me was alright and entertaining but nothing special. The Lorax was horrible. I haven't seen Hop but critics destroyed it.

While I agree that first look, the movie doesn't sound promising, I believe there IS potential for a movie based on singing contests. I'm a big fan of The Voice and Got Talent, and the best parts always are the "human factor" ones- the personal stories behind every contestant (which OK, are likely overplayed to win over the audience, but in this case since its a total fictional product, it's alright.) It's all about what winning means to the characters. For example, I'm intrigued by the pig mom-with-too-many-kids contestant. Is she a stay-at-home mom who wishes to do something else for a change? What song will she sing? That's the kind of thing I'm looking for.

Oh and the contrasts. They can be SO funny. Like, you see a timid-looking character who then starts to sing some heavy metal song and everybody goes WHAAA? Love it! evil grin

I don't think the premise is inherently bad or anything but Illumination's track record isn't very promising.

I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but I'm just expecting a mediocre movie with maybe some occasional funny bits sprinkled throughout.

@Paint: May I kindly ask what Nostalgia has to do with not caring for pop songs? It's not like I said "grr, music was better back in my day grumble." To be fair, there are many types of music I do not care for.

@Wehrmacht: You summed it up better than I could. Thank you. But ya I guess I was a little harsh for calling out Seth M. He's not too bad as a voice actor, I'm just not a big fan of his work. A person and their work are two different things.

Ya, I'm weird like that...

What I'm about to say isn't Sing related, but it's Illumination Entertainment-related.

You guys remember how Illumination wanted to do an animated movie version of How the Grinch Stole Christmas!?

Well, we know who's gonna be the Grumpy Green Guy himself.

It's...

No, sorry. I don't think it's enough to just say it. It must be read to be believed. I won't bother with a hint, it'd be too obvious.

Important Notice! I'm not against this per se. The guy they got is a really great guy, but I have to say that even I find this to be in WTF territory. Or at least in "Flat "What" Territory".

I let out a Big "WHAT?!" upon reading that. Not dissing KennyDiC Bumblecrash or anything, he's a great actor and I'm confident he could portray the Grinch well. But the Grinch is...at least one of the most unexpected roles for him to take to me.
