Hey tropers, the day has arrived. If you were one of our Kickstarter donators last year you've probably seen us tinkering with a new design for months. Within the next couple hours (depending on how fast your DNS updates you'll start hitting our new servers with the updated version of TV Tropes). A huge thanks to those of you who have been monitoring it and giving us feedback throughout the development process. Some of the new features include:
- Updated design throughout for a cleaner browsing experience
- One click sign in with Facebook
- Random Shuffle button to stay on a namespace (hit Random Media then the Shuffle button to randomize that namespace)
- Browse Watchlist in an image view
- History page now highlights sentences that were deleted/added to make it easier to review changes
- New image uploader with built in crop function
- New About Us page so you can see who we are.
- Contact Us form
- Trope Depictions on the home page (artists can submit their own comic to go with a trope)
- Bug List page Query Bugs (and Query Wishlist for tech wishes) to organize and track bugs on the site.
Ok. Let the feedback begin. (See Anxiety Tropes for my current feelings)
Notes:
- Please do not bother asking for the old design to come back. The lease of the old servers did expire at the day of the changeover, the new ones cannot run the old design.
- You can move the sidebar to the left by going into your profile and selecting Lefthand Sidebar.

Sometimes I get a URL in my history that, upon, googling, is a "Facebook cross domain messaging helper." It just started recently, and ONLY on TV Tropes.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Nothing suspicious about that; the 1.3 design adds FB integration. Not sure why it would be showing up in your history, though.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"For some reason nearly all links on Abandon Shipping lead to pop.mediatropes.info, for example pop.mediatropes.info/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Abandon Shipping Anyone else seeing the same?
When you see that kind of thing, fix it with a null edit.
Thanks. First time I see this, so I had no idea what to do. I'll remember the "null edit" thiung for next time. :)
Excuse me, but this doesn't make sense to me:
"The idea is that it will be possible to specify alternative example text for the work and the trope articles, but it will be optional."
But what is this good for? We are e.g. removing Zero Context Examples from the wiki. At the moment, you have to check both on trope pages and work pages. In 2.0, you'd have to check every example just once, because (I thought first) it'd be the same, since it's stored in the database, and the page is generated.
But with alternative texts possible - doesn't that mean we'd still have the problem that we have to check every example twice?
Get rid of the walled gardenPlease use the 2.0 topic to discuss that. Edit: here.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Is it just me, or is this site incredibly slow today? When I try to write/edit something it either takes ages to load or the site temporarely stops working while I'm sending the edit, deleting it.
Srg. Dornan: Troper, what are you doing here?! Get back to your post!!!Hey,so the badgeshop was neat idea when it was first introduced awhile ago,but it has since been discontinued as it wasn't really helping to fund the site.
Is there some future purpose for the feature?
New theme music also a boxFixing up the badge shop has been on the to do list forever. At the very least, people are supposed to be able to take off/put on their badges that they already have.
I've been dealing with some ads that really slow the site down recently. There is this one that automatically plays a video, and a walt disney world animation GIF ad, both of them make the site incredibly laggy. I've dealt with intrusive ads ever since 1.3 came out, but these are ridiculous. Is there some way you admins could help?
Looks good and its good for you!You want this thread.
The voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the groundSeems like this issue is stale, so I am going to unpin and close it. Still extant bugs should be reported in Query Bugs and wishes in Query Wishlist.

The idea is that it will be possible to specify alternative example text for the work and the trope articles, but it will be optional. By default, the only difference will be that the work page shows the trope and the trope page shows the work as the bulleted link.
But this should all be discussed in the 2.0 brainstorming topic, not here.
