Hi, folks. There really isn't anything to talk about with regards to 2.0 at this point. We're just brainstorming. The 1.8 update is still in beta and we have some expectation that it'll be released soon, but as moderators we have no direct ability to influence the rate at which site changes occur.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Okay, what the hell? Why was there no warning that the site's appearance would drastically change overnight? Where's my watchlist? How come on Safari, I keep being logged into other people's profiles instead of mine?
EDIT: Also, it won't let me log in at all on Safari. Hooray.

Uhhh, when I refreshed, I suddenly ended up logged in as a user named Ekul Teabag.
like, I don't think thats supposed to happen.
refreshed afterwords, was logged out, and logged back in, normal for now.
-wobbles-You ended up as me, and I ended up as multiple people. Really weird...
Took forever for me to be able to log in with my username, and when I started looking at the pages, I noticed the images were totally shrunken for some reason. Nothing pops out, anymore. The site just kinda looks bland, now.
Please use this thread for comments.

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanMaybe the first post should be a header with "ONLY DISCUSS 2.0 HERE, NOT THE CURRENT VERSION" added? Because I think this thread may be helpful, as long as people use it for 2.0 discussions.

Whelp, we've had a good run. In before the thread is closed again.
You guys had a chance. Locking up again. Jesus Christ, what's so hard about reading instructions?
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Unlocking per internal discussion. Please remember that we are talking about the future change in how wiki pages operate, not about any present-day bugs such as search, forums, locks etc. Any comment that is not about the thread topic will be thumped.

That is about 2.0. As discussed previously, we intend to allow examples to attach to categories like Advertising, Real Life, and such in lieu of a specific work or character. These would be strictly limited.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Wouldn't allowing examples to attach to media categories allow for General examples?

Eating a Vanilluxe will give you frostbite. We'd only allow it for some categories, like Advertising, Mythology, Religion, Real Life, and so on. This is because we'll be able to flag individual articles as allowing examples or not. I haven't thought up the ideal mechanism for this, but we're a long way off from actually blueprinting this thing instead of merely brainstorming it.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"My two cents: I've come across some trope articles that had an example section at the very top labelled "General", which typically contained examples from franchises that have ended up spanning multiple mediums to the point that it's difficult to associate said franchises with just one (e.g. Dune).

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Examples Are Not General: Making a blanket statement on the behavior of '70s Live-Action TV may be interesting information, but it technically doesn't add anything new as an example. If you feel the information is important, then add it to the description (or the Analysis subpage) instead of the examples. Examples are about specific works and instances in them; the description is the general behavior of the trope. See Needs A Better Description.

It's not that it wasn't edited in 2 years, it was created 2 years ago, but last edited 2 weeks ago. Still, I agree that this situation is slightly worrying.
