Library ~ Confusion Abounds

Arf raised an eyebrow as Cole and Caro's conversation continued.

"Forgive me for interrupting, but the whole thing was announced practically everywhere yesterday. Fate and I even saw someone get really upset over it. Actually, Fate got really upset over it too, though she didn't tell me why," she commented, "I have to ask just what you were doing to have missed it entirely."

She and Fate had been mostly ignoring the other conversations in the library, but it was very difficult to ignore the pastel-colored ghost get crammed into a bubble that it clearly didn't fit into and carried out of the library, followed by what sounded an awful lot like a sonic boom. For a few moments after the fact, she and Fate just glanced in the direction it came from, up until Caro explained what had happened.

"...Remind me not to get on her bad side."

Fate, meanwhile, noticed the man standing next to the couch and how awkward he looked. She gave him a brief look of sympathy, but whatever other thoughts she might have had she kept to herself.

Lewis - Library - Looks Like Zs'Skayr's Blasting Off Agaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiin...!

Before Ghostfuck could react, it became clear that even the librarian was fed up with his shit, confining him in a small bubble just before my chair could make contactnote  and throwing him out the door into the sky, a dot against the open air.

Thank fuck.

One of her body doubles came to watch, preceded by a very lost Thomas. I glanced at him, about to explain when the librarian complained about my swearing again.

"Right. Sorry. I got carried away there."

I looked back at the young man who...apparently decided to write a letter instead of getting a tablet. "Ben was getting hung up over something that came up in Eve's call home and that fake ghost alien dude showed up to verbally abuse him about it."

I pulled Ben in yet closer, using one edge of the cape to try and wipe his eyes (staining it with running white facepaint; luckily this was not the edge with the bass clef I was using). "There. He's gone now. Come on, today's supposed to be a great day. Dry those tears. We'll show him when the time comes, just you wait! I can't."

I didn't expect to get much of a response. I thought about asking the librarian about calling Vivi if I got none at all since I might as well while she was here.

The library

Before he could respond to Eve, Ghostfreak was stuffed into a tiny bubble, and he snarled at the librarian as he vainly tried to escape. "It matters not! I meant what I said! And your world's fate is sealed!!" Ghostfreak exclaimed, before Miss Tairee decided to shoot him out of the library.... at very high speed.

Ben continued to stand there, crying, even as Lewis took him into his arms and Thomas and Miss Tairee checked on him. He stopped wailing, sniffling as Lewis dried his eyes off with his cape.

"B-but... but... what about... w-w-what he said?" Ben asked, choked up by his crying. "I'm not a good hero, I couldn't save Eve or Cole, there wasn't... there wasn't anything I c-c-c-c-could do..." He wrapped himself in Lewis' cape, still crying. "I haven't saved anyone.... p-people have to keep s-s-saving m-me..."

Eve|Library|That Was Totally Wicked!

Eve recorded Ghostfreak's ignoble eviction, so she could watch it over and over again. She bent down to pick up the tablet, watching with amusement as Rinslet dumped a bucket of water over Train's head, while Sven cut himself free from the grappling hook. He came towards the monitor, looking at the broken Ben. "I expect an explanation for this, young lady." His face softened. "But not now. Go see to your friend. I want to talk to you in 5 days." Bye Hime-chi!""See ya, Eve."

Eve, with some sadness, ended the call. Then she walked back to Ben. And hugged him.

"You can't always save everyone. And both of us are fine. It's okay Ben. It's okay."

Streets — Wake-up call

Abel sat down and continued crying. His pet non-verbally seemed to ask for some help to deal with Abel's breakdown. Rex didn't have much of an idea of what to say but it finally dawned on him that the kid wasn't the only one alone in his homeworld. He had heard of that possibility before but now the resentment and sadness of all those people were made clear by looking at Abel.

Abel - Streets - you tried

Rixis looked disappointed, to say the least, but it seemed like he didn't expect much from Rex, anyway. After five minutes of sobbing, Abel managed to calm down a bit, and the sobs turned into a slow but steady stream of tears.

"S-Sorry for blowing up like that..." Abel blubbered, still wiping away with his sleeve.

Library

Arcade was pulled from the discussion of the librarian’s abilities by Ben’s crying. Hearing his insecurities sounded familiar to the doctor. He quickly moved away from the couch, giving the others a quick, “I’ll be right back,” as he hurried over to the upset child.

Once he reached him, however, Arcade realized that he had no idea what he wanted to say. He fumbled mentally for a bit before starting his speech. “It’s hard, right? To want, so badly, to help everyone. You see people suffering and you wonder if you’re the answer, or just- just another wannabe savior.

“I spent so much time in Freeside, trying to find cures for the various broken people I had to save. I- I never did, though. It was- it was impossible, in my mind, to do anything that would leave an impact. People were hurt and I couldn’t save them.”

Arcade became more morose as he began to flashback to the event that changed his life. He told Ben, “I wanted so badly to save everyone that I signed up for a war. I needed to be there to stop an approaching horde of slavers and rap- bad people. I look back on that fight, and I wonder what I really contributed. No one would remember me, I know that for certain now.”

He stopped and glanced around the room, realizing that he spent so much time trying to empathize he almost missed the comforting part. “The point is,” he started again, “I would help with patients when the- clinic,” he knew he couldn’t call it the Fort, it would only confuse the message, “was overflowing with patients. Sometimes I failed, and sometimes I succeeded, and, you know what? That’s what I look back on with pride.

"I didn’t save the world, I didn’t find the cure to all illnesses, but I made life easier for a few people who needed someone to help them. That sometimes helps people more than any guard or soldier can.” At that he started to step back, nodding uncertainly, mostly to himself.

Streets — Oh boy

Abel kept crying but he finally started to compose himself after a few minutes. Maybe Rex hadn't helped much with that but it was clear Abel had at least calmed himself down for now. He even apologized for the whole situation.

"It's cool" Rex answered, standing up "Just... look, how about we go somewhere a bit more fun? Might as well take advantage of the city while it's an amusement park"

"Come on, I think I saw something interesting back here" he prompted Abel to follow him down a street.

Rex stopped dead on his tracks when he saw he almost ran into Silanea. And she was following Curly. The latter wasn't so bad—except for that whole not-really-betrayal thing, he was still a bit annoyed about that—but Silanea was definitely bad news. She was one of the many people that hated Rex and that was even before making the deal with the writer. Who knew how her opinion of him had developed after learning about that?

Rex lifted his right arm, awkwardly waved his hand and hoped that his suit and the change of scenery would be enough to not tip her off.

"...sup?"

Somewhere in the streets

Silanea finally noticed Jack as he flew overhead and Curly pointed him out. "Him again..." Silanea muttered, frowning slightly, then looked at Curly with just a little confusion. "'Guardian of fun'? What are you talking-" she had to pause and move back slightly as Rex suddenly moved out from between a couple buildings, nearly running into her.

Silanea stared at him a moment after his rather unconcerned greeting. "Uh... Pardon" Silanea said quietly, glancing away as she moved a little further back to give him room. She didn't seem to recognize his voice, and given the suit with his covered head that was all she really had to go on.

Library

"A movie?" Del'Guk's left head asked.

"Not important right now" Tuudol said to him, then looked back at Sans. "A party? Like a celebration?" the wood elf asked, to clear things up.

"Will there be a feast?" Del'Guk's right head wondered.

Meanwhile, Thomas glanced at Lewis as he tried to explain the situation with Ben, though frowned as he noticed the skeleton ghost, and the way he was trying to cheer Ben up. "You!- You're the jerk who was sticking up for the ponce that was bad mouthing Ben! So now after doing that behind his back you're trying to be all buddy buddy with him?" Thomas asked accusingly.

Miss Tairee 10 kept watching, still not yet making any comment or stepping in.

Elsewhere in the lobby, Miss Tairee 2 was still getting yelled at through the mirror, and finally sighed in resignation. "Miss, please. Yelling at me here and now is just hurting your vocal cords, and wasting both of our time. I'm handing the mirror back to your daughter now" Miss Tairee 2 said, though Seirwuosuhr's mom probably didn't catch most of it because she was still yelling at the same time that Miss Tairee 2 was talking. Miss Tairee 2 then handed the mirror down to Seirwuosuhr, who looked into the mirror and waited for her mom to realize it was her now and stop yelling.

Library - well this is promising

"well, yeah. like a celebration, except we're not really celebrating anything and more like just trying to cheer someone up," said Sans, then glancing at the big guy, figures he would be the one who's mostly interested in the food, "and well, i'm not really the one setting it all up, but i imagine it would have the stuff you'd expect. food, music, etc. if you wanna help organize things in a way that helps as many people as possible enjoy it, you can probably find those guys in the cinema"

He wasn't even sure if the fanboys were ok with this, but the cinema seemed like a big place so it could probably accomodate some NHA members. Especially since he figured a lot of the members wouldn't care enough to go take part in it. Unfortunately he didn't have any readily available means of communicating with the fanboys from a distance, so that would be something to be discussed later.

Ben hugged Eve, as she came up and tried to console him. He listened to her, and then Arcade, explained about how it wasn't always possible to save everyone. What he had to do was savor the victories he did have and the people he did save. Hearing that from them made him feel a little better. He was still shaken though.

Which didn't help when Thomas approached and started yelling at Lewis. Ben shot a look at Thomas. "You and Louie both need to cool it," Ben snapped at them. "Lewis wasn't gonna do anything to us. He's fine. Just... stop arguing. Please. You heard what Grandpa said. We need to work together if we're gonna protect the City, and we need to work together if we're gonna get home. Now Lewis was saying we should try and relax while we can today. Tomorrow's gonna be pretty horrible," he told them. "As for me, I gotta make some apologies myself."

Ben walked over towards Sans, looking uneasy and frowning over at him. "Hey, uh, Sans?" he asked. "I... wanted to say sorry. I said some mean things and... I was acting like a real jerkface to you earlier..." he muttered.

City Streets - The Children

"We know." Sarah groaned at Ara's words, rolling her eyes. "I'm Sarah."

The girl's older sister frowns at her briefly, before turning a bright smile towards the woman. "My name is Mary. Sarah is my little sister."

It was the harpy's turn to join in, lifting her wings up and ruffling them. "I'm Onwyn! And you're Ara. Can I sit on your shoulders?"

The Andalite boy didn't stop walking, or even turn, instead bending his stalk eyes back behind him to look. <My name is Offeran-Jibril-Castant.>

With four eyes, Offeran does a good job of searching; Pointing out a few places that they could check out. But no sign of the boy himself.

Jack was almost out of earshot, when Lucas started shouting. Unable to really hear what was being said he stopped, rolling over to wave back at the boy and see what was up. Spotting his expression, the spirit realized it was something more serious than just saying hello. Willing the wind to take him down, he dropped to the ground in front of the boy; frowning slightly. "Lucas. What's wrong?"

"Hello, miss Lie-berry-an, can you tell me where Merasmus is?"

"What have you done!" yelled The Spy as he put down magazine and quickly rose to his feet.

Pacing back and forth, the Medic began to shout as well.

"Dummkopf!"

"Do not blame Merasmus, mortals, for the great and powerful Merasmus knows only three spells, and two of them are guessing the card in your hand!"

"So, what do y'all suggest we do?" inquired The Engineer.

"We shall view my crystal ball!"

"Silence, Demoman!"

Eve|Library |Oh Shit

Eve listened to Arcade, still hugging Ben. When he finished, Eve gave him a small, slight nod of thanks, before letting Ben go so he could tell Thomas off and go apologise to Sans. She felt somewhat proud of him for doing so. As soon as he left though, she turned back to the others. They needed to sort their problems out. She had more important concerns. Eve took a furvitive look around the library, noticing out of the corner of her eye a familiar, but not particularly welcome face. Still, that was a problem for later.

"Thomas, Lewis is fine. He was at the Ghostfreak mocking yesterday. "

That had been so much fun.

"However, if you two have problems, sort them out. Because no matter how I act, Ghostfreak is concerning."

Shinji Ikari | Unknown City | You are (not) denying

After that little incident—which wasn’t too bad, but he still hadn’t wanted to bother anyone—Shinji wandered and decided that he would look for somewhere to just listen to his SDAT. There were a lot of people, which he wasn’t surprised of considering it looked like a city. But he was a bit surprised of everyone wearing odd clothing or a costume like him, so he didn’t felt out of place wearing his anymore.

And then there was the fact that everything seemed…cheerful. There were people getting on rides, playing in the snow, even kids were doing games…and parents were having a fun time with their children. Seeing he wasn’t going to find anywhere quiet soon, he got out his SDAT player—with some difficulties—and put the earbuds on.

As the music played, he looked around for somewhere isolated to sit. He also hoped the dream would end soon. He wasn’t liking it. Then again, since when did he dream anything other than nightmares?

"You said you had a dream... That dream... Make it come true! ... If anyone can, it's you!" - N (shortened) Oh, and I'm a girl.

No yelling in the library, Forrest Gump

I quickly read the note from the librarian. The letter came from the person who claimed he was behind this. He said that there will be more changes, which was neat, I guess. In fact, he was goin' to use my ideas. I had this wide grin on my face.

However, this army guy dressed like Santa Clausnote  stumbled into the library and yelled somethin'. And then he politely asked the librarian if he knew someone named Merasmus. Didn't he know about the rules of the library?! I glared at him and simply raised my pointer finger up to my lips. Hopefully, he would get this gesture.

Yoshika, Chasing Down a Flying Spirit Boy
Running up right behind Lucas as Jack came down, Yoshika waved her arms around in an attempt to signal a successful touchdown, or alternatively to flag the boy to land.

Just as he did, she pre-empted whatever Lucas might say by shouting "I'M ALIVE!" She would've continued shouting, but she didn't want to repeat what just happened with Lucas, so she calmed herself down again before continuing.

"The writer made it so I can think like an actual person again, Jack! My body's dead, but my mind's alive, and I need your help! Seiga doesn't know I'm alive yet, but I only have one day to do...something. I don't know what, yet."

Seiga, Roundabout Conversations while Stalling The Line
"It's not easy, but it's doable. I don't really have a use for it, but if I have time I could see about handing some out. Haven't done it in a while, so just brushing up would be ni-"

A kind fellow at Seiga's side "Could you please move, woman..." Behind the both of them was a line of great proportions, like had always existed and always will, who was still filing through past them. Really, all they were doing was chattin' it up right next to a very busy reception line, but all things considered the people they were crowding didn't seem too unhappy about it.

Seiga shot an aside glance to the man in question, some old man in a lab coat, and said to Ciri, "...You know, this call could wait. We could do something else if it's in your fancy, and I have all day to make it. What would you like, besides holding up this line?"

Ciri - Library

"A call? Is there a megascope here?" Ciri asked Seiga curiously. As she spoke, she gave a brief wave in Rick's direction when she spotted him near a desk - she didn't know too many people in the city, but it appeared as though the library was a popular place. Which made sense considering its function, but she at least thought it was still a curiosity in its own right.

"Oh? Oh...." She added as she seemed to realize something when Seiga offered to go do something else. With her. She took a slight half-step back, but the desk blocked any further movement. "I'm sure you're quite the lovely girl and perhaps on another day I would be tempted by the offer, but at the moment I'm not seeking courtship. I'm looking for information. I need to at the very least get a bit of understanding, to have enough knowledge on our present situation to survive, before I can worry about relaxation."

"Those cinema guys, huh..." Tuudol muttered, folding his arms and seeming to be in thought.

"If these guys only just met Silanea, why are gonna do this just for her?" Gel'Duk's left head asked. "Do you really think it'll work?" his right head asked.

Meanwhile, Thomas looked a bit surprised as Ben and Eve told him to calm down, then just a little bit ashamed of himself... But also still clearly pretty mad at Lewis. After another brief glare of daggers at Lewis, Thomas' gaze paused as he noticed the nearby Miss Tairee. "Well what about you then? You seem rather quiet" Thomas remarked to her.

"I wasn't sure yet if Ben needed, or wanted, my input" Miss Tairee 10 answered him simply, then turned and walked away to start helping other patrons get their messages home.

Looking unsure what to make of that, Thomas followed after Ben, wrapping his cloak around himself and remaining a bit behind the younger boy as an observer. It remained evident that something about this didn't sit right with the young wizard, especially as he cast a judgemental look towards Sans, but for now at least he opted to go back to being silent.

Tuudol and Del'Guk glanced at Ben when he approached and made an apology to Sans. Tuudol had a curious sort of expression, clearly waiting to see where this would go; Del'Guk's heads both frowned a little, looking just a bit jealous again.

At the central desks, Miss Tairee 1 turned her head to Soldier and looked at him rather blankly for a moment. "Sir, I don't know who 'Merasmus' is. If that's someone in the city, then no. Is that someone in your home universe?" Miss Tairee 1 asked him.

Library - Solipsism

She couldn't deny that line of thinking did make sense. It definitely should be possible for the storyteller god to do such a thing. She had feeling that Arf's arguement wouldn't work all that well either. If Cole presumably believed the enitity to be cruel enough to fake all this, then the announcement could be thought as a way deciev One thing definitely stuck out more than almost anything else though ... Fate had gotten upset over the announcement of the wish? She would have to find out more about that later, for sure ...

"I get where you're coming from, Cole. It is undeniable that the storyteller god has the ability of doing something like that. However, if you believe him willing to do it, then must also believe him to be rather sadistic, to apparently do all just to give people false hope, only to have that crushed later. You could certainly explain Papyrus' actions towards Sans and me through that lens ... And yet ... Would anyone supposedly that cruel ever, either by simulating it all themselves or by creating some sort of copy capable of it, seem to care about a mere child in turmoil? Go out of their way to cheer her up? When there is clear nothing to gain from that either way? How much that call seemed to have helped Fate is more than enough cause for me to believe it to be nothing but genuine ..."

Lewis - Library - This was gonna be a long speech but I got ninja'd hard last night

Not convinced he'd listen to any of what I thought to say, I settled for letting Eve and...was that Arcade? The facepaint was making it hard to tell but it sounded like him...do the talking. I considered complaining when Thomas decided so wisely that now was the time to try bitching me out, but relented and settled for holding up a declarative "I will get to you in a moment" finger to shush him. That Ben snapped out of it enough to tell him off, with Eve joining in, might have helped.

Of course, he still looked irritable afterwards, to which I simply rolled my eyes. Nonetheless, I followed him trailing Ben over to where...Sans(?)...had apparently been here this whole time, apologizing for...whatever their beef was (I never did get to ask, did I). Right. I still needed to talk to Ben about this myself.

I knocked on the pumpkin sitting on his head, understanding what it was for but being boggled by it nonetheless.

Library - i'm sorry?

"hey, if i saw a stranger in that depressing of a state i would want to help too. i like to think that i'm a decent guy," Sans answered one of Del'Guk's heads.

Then Ben showed up in a spooky-ish costume and... began apologizing for yesterday. Huh, well, he wasn't expecting that to be happening anytime soon.

"uh... ok, i guess. i'm really not the one you should be apologizing to, but thanks i guess." Sans shrugged.

Lewis was following behind Ben and he was wearing... a lot of stuff. The most noticeable thing was the paint on his skull, it was pretty elaborated, but it didn't seem to match with his and Caro's costumes, so he wondered what that was meant to symbolize. For some reason he also decided to start knocking on his head too, not even saying a word.

"knock that off, lewis," said Sans, not sounding annoyed as much as he just wanted to make the pun.

Sans then looked back at Del'Guk and Tuudol, trying to not let himself get distracted too much.

"anyways, it's worth a shot, we just need to find her and bring her to the cinema when everything's ready. besides, at the end of the day we're all just trying to have fun, right? maybe the group could use a socializing event like this."

Ben nodded at Sans. "Yeah. I should probably say sorry to Silanea too. I probably hurt her a lot. I just..." Ben sighed, still sounding emotionally drained from earlier. "What she and the other anti-humans were saying about humans like me, it hurt," he explained. "And when I found out you joined them I felt a little... betrayed I guess," he told Sans.

He ran a hand through his hair, taking it out of its slicked-back, neat comb and into its signature messy look again. "Did you at least get to talk to your friends?" he asked. "Undyne and King Asgore are back... right? If it's too hard to talk about I understand. I just.. I'm glad your world is fixed. I'm gonna go find Silanea so I can say sorry, though I don't know if she's gonna accept my sorry," he muttered, sighing and looking towards one of the doors.

He blinked.

"I knew about the wish," Cole said to Arf, frowning a bit. "I just...I didn't know what came of it...I wasn't..."

He trailed off, looking to the side, just hanging onto his bunny and not saying anything as Caro talked to him about how she saw the situation. He had a rather skeptical expression on his face, clear enough, until she finished. He didn't say anything for a moment, reaching up to rub at an eye, letting out a soft sigh.

"...it was...it was nice of Lucas to try to use the wish to save Sans's world," he finally said, just hunkering down a bit more, still keeping his gaze away from Caro. "I'm glad that he was willing to do that. And...I am...I am glad that you all seem so...happy."
