Karkat - Finally Important Again

Karkat gave the guy on the table a thumbs up and walked around until he found a gap in the makeshift barricade. He walked around, trying not to step on anything, and stopped at the foot of the stairs. UH, I'M GONNA BE UPSTAIRS, IF YOU NEED FOOD OR WATER OR ANYTHING, He said to no one in particular. IT'S NOT MUCH, BUT IF YOU'RE REALLY HUNGRY, I THINK I CAN SPARE SOME FOOD. He walked upstairs, trying to clean up the area.

Risen... from the dead? Of all the types of creatures on Ephinea, there was no such kind that exhibited that ability. And they're often hostile? They still look human, but...

Sophie was broken out of her train of thought by Seiga's response - and the purple-haired girl frowned again. She timidly ran behind the two-headed ogre, hiding behind him and peeking out at the blue-haired woman like a child getting scared of a particularly-nasty adult. "...You're doing it again," Sophie muttered, eyeing Seiga with a furrowed brow and a pout.

Well that had been an unintended side effect, but Cole decided he would take it. Jack's staff seemed to be like one of the ice ones he'd seen Vivienne using back home, though he had to admit he'd never really seen anything quite like a tongue freezing to it. (Was this what those "lick a lamppost in winter" jokes King Alistair made meant?)

The man they'd stopped to help ended his consideration by killing the long-tongued beast, and Cole didn't hesitate to throw his other dagger into a last regular zombie, hitting it in the head, before walking over to draw retrieve his weapons. "Jack, are you all right? That...creature hit you hard." He winced, rubbing at his throat a little as he crouched to pull his blades free of the corpses they were currently inhabiting. "Sir! Are you all right?" he called to the man above.

Odd Town, This Could Be Going Better

"Girl, you know that if I tried to kill you...these people would just shoot us. I'm not sure about you, but I can't dodge bullets very well at all." The hermit gave a feeble laugh before she was wracked with another coughing fit, with even more blood coming out than before. This had been the first time in many, many years that Seiga actually was worried about dying and she wasn't a fan of the sensation at all. She felt that not only was she going to die, she was going to die at the hands of some little girl that she had just failed to kill, despite a two-to-one advantage, in front of a crowd of strangers. If anything, she could allow her body to die, but her dignity could not suffer such an ignoble demise.

She held up her hand, and said in-between labored breaths "Look...I don't know how much you know about...medicine...but this happens when you puncture the lung's arteries. The blood pools in the lungs...and creates an effect similar to drowning. What you're seeing...is a woman drowning. Do you want me to drown on dry land...from my own blood asphyxiating me?" She pointed to Yoshika, her face growing more desperate. "She doesn't even have to do that throat thing! All she has to do...is hold me up while you do what you need to do. Can you do that much for someone like me?"

On the way to the Grocery Store

Lune had to stifle her laughter when she heard about Tinker Knightā€™s ā€œrobotsā€. However, the one that caught her attention the most was the giant robot about the size of a large house. If this guy was able to build a working robot with the limited technology at his disposal, Lune wondered what kind of things this Tinker Knight was able to build with her worldā€™s technology.

ā€œThat Tinker Knight guy seems pretty smart. Does he patent his work?ā€

Outside, with Plague Knight and Lune

"Stay out in the open?" Garrett scoffed. "You must be kidding. My job relies on staying out of sight." He cast a critical look around. "Though it's not like there's a lot of shadow around here anyway..."

He followed alongside them as they headed deeper into the city, keeping an eye out for the undead. "Can't do much against zombies with this dagger," he mumbled. "Would be a different story if I had a sword..."

As the conversation moved to the subject of the technology of everyone's worlds, Garrett put it his two cents. "The closest thing to your 'robots' where I come from are Karras's iron beasts. Creepy as hell and dumb like a sack of bricks. I have a feeling your Tinker Knight would be executed by the Hammerites as a Mechanist heretic if he set foot in my City though. After Karras they're kind of jumpy about those things."

Towards Grocery Store

ā€œI think a patent is something you write to the higher-ups about how you own the rights to that invention, and that everyone should pay a fee if they want to use your work? I could be wrong, though.ā€

Lune wasnā€™t interested in law, either. If you told Lune to defend someone in court, sheā€™d probably bungle that up real bad. She's a mecha pilot, not a lawyer, darnit!

ā€œā€¦And where is Karras?ā€

Lune asked that because this Karras city must be frightening if they caused people to turn away from machines. Surely, one bad seed canā€™t be that terrible, right?

Library - Empathy

Caro flashed a tearful smile and said, "I-It's OK. O-Of course it makes me sad to hear all ... that, i-it's a pretty dark and ... tragic tale, but ... I-I would rather hear it and get sad than have you face it alone and keep it all inside without telling anyone. T-That would be just too horrible. I-I know that far too well."

She stopped for a while to wipe off a few tears and recompose herself a little, "S-So I don't regret asking. That would be just ... Selfish. Still ... I-I think we can both agree that we probably should talk about something else for now ..."

Library - To Business

Zelda watched Viola go for a few moments. While the girl certainly seemed nice, she did seem surprisingly disappointed that they wouldn't be talking right now. She also got the feeling it wasn't simply because she was interested in Zelda as a person. She made a note to be wary of the girl in the future before heading off in a different direction.

She looked for a place that, while prominent, wouldn't be in the way of anyone who was working. This was easier said than done, considering that she had to worry about not only the workers but also the steadily increasing numbers of refugees from elsewhere in the city. All the same, it didn't take her long.

Once she was settled, she took a quick look around, looking for something she could possibly help out with before she settled on simply playing her harp. In the process, she noticed Sans and Caro returning from outside. She gave them a weak smile and waved to them, but didn't make any indication that she wanted to talk to them right now. She more wanted to let them know she was getting a little better, more than anything.

Outside- Stalking Following Plague Knight and Co.

After growing bored of the Library, Specter Knight decided to search for supplies with plague Knight and the others, albeit silently. His reasons for doing so, however, were not to provide aid so much as to simply stave off his own boredom. Soon, the others began speaking about their respective world's technologies.

"I highly doubt that any authorities in our world would be willing to defend an invention of Tinker Knight's." He said, finally making his presence known.

Somewhere along an unfamiliar road.

That much was true; Seiga would die if she wasn't healed soon. Bad first impression aside, Sophie only intended to incapacitate them, not kill.

"Okay," she nodded, stepping out from behind the orc. She then crossed her arms together and closed her eyes, after which a blue magic circle formed at her feet, with eleth swirling around her. "Gather light of life, impart us with your healing glow..." After another second of charging the most potent healing arte in her repertoire, Sophie flourished her arms outward with a cry of "Cure!"

The blue-haired woman was bathed in a warm, bright light. Seiga's internal wounds quickly mended themselves - alas, to remove the blood still in her lungs, the energies pushed it all upward, compelling her to throw up. After that, other than a feeling of tiredness and queasiness, Seiga would find herself almost completely fine.

"Better?" the purple-haired girl asked simply, lowering her arms once the arte had concluded.

Quite a few didn't take his arrival too well, particularly this one wearing a red uniform. The one who answered his question was none other than a young girl...and though there was a tiny part of him that didn't mind thanks to his curiosity, he didn't really like it. This was essentially kidnapping. But for inspiration? That was a rather odd reason, even for him. Apparently, the woman the uniformed man was speaking to had more information, which was good as he still had a few unanswered questions left. But she mentioned something about "true sight" and was typing on something.

Perhaps he'll ask the girl one question he felt she could answer while he waited for her to do whatever this true sight was that would convince them he meant no harm. She didn't look too busy. She just randomly picked a book—was it a book? He wasn't sure—from the floor and sat to read.

So he went over to where she sat and said with genuine curiosity and slight confusion, "Pardon me, but...are you a human?"

"Maybe we can find a better weapon for you," Plague Knight said to Garret. "And if those Hammerites did try, I bet Tinker Knight would have been able to invent something that could easily plow through them all! Though are these iron beast you speak of stupid on their own? Because as brilliant as Tinker Knight is, I doubt he has created anything that can move or think for itself without being wound up. Yyyyyyeeeeeeeeet........" The knight dragged out the last word, as if implying something.

Then he turned to Lune. "Hm....." the knight thought after she explained what a patent was. "That actually seems like a good idea.....maybe I should run it by the King next time I see him....."

Lastly to Spectre Knight: "Oh, I agree, since they could defend themselves quite well for mindless automatons! By the way Spectre, it is good of you to join us," he said to the revenant. "The sheer cold given off by your shoulders ought to make this trek a bit more bearable! HEE HEE!"

Library - comfort

Well, he had already told some people about what had happened so it wasn't like he was really keeping it all to himself but it was probably not gonna be worth pointing that out to Caro. While Caro was talking, Sans noticed Zelda and merely looked at her for a moment before looking back at Caro. While Zelda wasn't looking particularly happy, she certainly was in a better state than the little girl in front of him at least for now.

"y'know, you're too nice for your own good," he commented, trying to keep his laidback attitude, "here you are, crying over the misfortune of someone you've known for less than a week. you've been worried about me since the day we've met, me, the guy who decided the best way to make a first impression on you was by pulling a silly prank that scared the hell out of you." He paused for a few seconds, looking slightly down at the ground, considering his options before looking back at her. "but y'know what?"

After a brief hesitation, Sans walked over Caro and pulled her into a hug. He wasn't really one to do that kind of thing, and he kinda wished he could do so in private, but he figured he could make an exception this time, it was the only thing he could think about that could give her some comfort after having to tell him her story while also having to learn to deal with the revelation of what happened in the Underground. He made sure to not hug her too tightly so she could break off anytime she wanted with no trouble if she felt like it.

"thanks, caro. i really appreciate that you care that much about me and i know that you must be feeling like you can't do anything to help me, but you've done a fair bit already, trust me. so... despite everything i told you, i'm fine, i really am, so you don't need to cry, ok?"

Odd Town, Blaaraagagaaaagugeaguh
Vomiting really takes something out of you, in some ways more obviously than others. Seiga's hatred of it was probably why she gave up her habits of drinking some time ago, because she was the kind that didn't know when to stop. This particular instance was the thing that finally brought her down on the ground, bracing herself as she let loose quite a lot more blood than she expected. Once it was over, and it seemed a lot longer than it was, she felt a few different sensations.

One, she felt so lightheaded she might pass out. Two, she figured with all of this blood smeared on her face, arms, front and feet she probably looked more ghastly than the zombies they had just met. Three, whatever pain was there a second ago was gone. This girl must be something, not only to forgive attempted murder (though whether this was compassion or stupidity wasn't clear), she didn't have to do anything to pull off healing like that beyond just a little word, no incantations or potions needed. Maybe in another place, if they had gotten off to a better start, Seiga would've loved to learn what exactly was the source of her power. Oh well, no crying over spilled blood.

Seiga got up, surprising herself with how easy it happened and brushed herself off, inadvertently smearing a little blood on her dress in the process. She flicked away some more on her hand and offered a bow to Sophie in place of a messy handshake. "From the bottom of my heart I thank you, Miss...What are the odds, I still don't know your name, actually!" She beamed at her, but with her blood-drenched teeth it certainly didn't seem like a kind smile.

Ara Haan & Eun (Library) - City Life 101

"Thank you," Ara replied with a bow when the woman with glasses handed her a folded paper for her to read. "True sight? Well... uhm..."

'It is fine. Let her do it.'

'Are you sure about this, Eun?'

'Absolutely.'

"I... I guess I won't mind..." she finally responded, still not entirely sure that was the answer she wanted to give.

She next acknowledged the young girl that briefly came to explain what this location was. Her explanation was not particularly detailed or helpful, and something about the girl herself was definitely off, but I was significantly more focused on the woman now working at her desk than on the child, so I did not pay any particular attention to her.

After all, and even if she did it through artificial means, meeting another clairvoyant was quite a rare opportunity.

Ara, on the other hand, was significantly more attentive towards the girl, even though the news received had startled her somewhat. She thanked the girl with a quick bow, sat down on her heels, and began reading the paper she had been given. And the more she read... the more serious her expression grew.

Viola I Library I Polite > Hunger

I looked up from my book to glance at the figure inquiring to me whether or not I'm human. To that, I gave him a questioning look. Odd. "Unless something is very wrong with me, yes, I'm very much definitely a human. And so is almost everyone here, now that I think about it... Are humans rare from where you come from?" Won't be surprising.

Then, I heard a familiar shout of a certain crab-like person yesterday. I would've ignored him like I usually do if it weren't for the fact that he has some food and drinks with him. I may not show it but I could really use some right about now. Then again, if it's with him...

I sigh. I bookmarked the page that I stopped on before setting the book down. Before I go upstairs though, I should probably listen to what the metallic man has to say, and then I'll excuse myself. It's only polite, after all. "Coming~ Be sure to save some for the rest us," I told Karkat who poked his head out from the stairs. It wouldn't do for him to suddenly waste everything so suddenly. At least by this, there'll be some for me.

On the street

Jack stared awkwardly at the thick, meaty tongue hanging from his staff like a giant worm, and shuddered. That was... really gross. He really didn't want to touch it. Pulling his power back out of Twinetender, not an easy feat with how natural it felt to be in there, and sighed happily as the tongue came loose and fell to the ground.

With no real reason to still be in the air, the winter spirit landed. He grinned at Cole, though it wasn't at the same level as his usual ones. The day was starting to wear on him. "That? Pshh." He waved it off. "I've been hit a lot harder then that, and I'm still here. You good?"

So he wasn't reaching the wrong conclusion, they were humans. That only perplexed him further. He flinched ever so slightly at a loud voice that suddenly boomed across the building. He mentioned something about eating and drinkjng, which only proved further that they weren't Navis. At the girl's question, he said matter-of-factly,

"No. They're abundant. I asked because I'm..." He paused, nearly forgetting they likely didn't know what a NetNavi was. "...a virus converted artificial intelligence. In other words, I was digital, thus no humans were actually in the digital realm I and other artificial intelligence inhabited. But we could see them whenever they wished to communicate with us."

Viola I Library I Artificial what now?

If Zero were to look at me, he would find that I have absolutely no idea what he's talking about. Artificial intelligence? Digital? Maybe it was a common term from where he comes from, but to me, they sounded like gibberish.

"I'm... sorry, but I didn't quite catch that. I don't recognize some of the terms that you use. For example, I have no clue as to what 'digital' and 'artificial intelligence' is supposed to mean." I shrugged. "The only thing I could get from that is that you have a virus within you. A sickness, maybe? Beyond that, well..." I shook my head. "Sorry. It may be common in your world, but it's not in mine."

This Again

Back in the pet shop, Sadness had missed her chance to take any more of the zombies down. And now, yet again, she was alone. Sadness attempted to roll after Rex and potentially the weird triangle guy—who had been outside the last time she had seen—but she had forgotten that, in its new mode, her tankĀ² couldn't move an inch. The zombies quickly moved out of her range.

It occurred to Sadness how awful the last two days had been. She quickly burst into tears, indulging herself with wallowing in deep dark despair before calming down with a couple of sniffles and deep breaths.

"Right," she said to herself. "I gotta...uh..."

She punched the 'other mode' button on her tank again in the hopes that her tank would transform back into its probably-less-powerful-but-at-least-it-can-actually-move form. It worked, and Sadness began the slow task of rolling out through the broken pet shop display window.

She wasn't a fish, and that was nice.

Currently writing something. Currently procrastinating.

She didn't know? That was...troublesome, to say the least. He had no idea how much she could understand now that he lack of knowledge of his origins if she didn't even understand the word "digital". That meant only one thing, where she was from, there wasn't even the most basic form of computer. He still tried to explain in his usual tone anyway.

"No, I don't have a virus. I am a virus, at least partially now. My virus production has been sealed so I cannot infect anyone and turn other artificial intelligence mad," he first clarified. "As for the terms... There are these devices called computers. More advanced ones are able to do various functions through numbers and can store information through them, usually referred to as data. Hence anything involving such is usually given the adjective, 'digital', which derives from the word digit. An artificial intelligence is, you could say, digital life, as we can think independently and maintain computers whenever humans cannot, hence the word intelligence. We're also made by humans, hence the word artificial, as in, not natural; made by people."
