Did you watch The Mansions of the Gods? I liked it (possibly because I was fond of the album it was adapting) but I think The Secret of the Magic Potion was better. The two films were made by the same directors and team, and have a similar feel.
The Mansions Of The Gods was somehow dramatic and had some constraints due to be adapting a comic. The Secret of the Magic Potion is an original story, and I think the plot works better with the jokes.
Obviously it may be interesting to have opinions from non-French tropers. French tropers were quite enthousiastic, as the work page may suggest.

Oh, I loved Mansion of Gods...so, that one is good, too? Mmmm….
Thread title updated per request.
All I can say without spoiling too much is that the focus of this movie is less on Asterix and Obelix as in The Mansions of the Gods, so if you really like these two characters you may be a bit disappointed. Apart from that the movie is very entertaining and the characters it does focus on are just as interesting. It helps that director Alexandre Astier's brand of humour was already inspired a lot by Asterix, so even when he writes an original story it is quite close in spirit to Goscinny & Uderzo's.
By the way, is Kaamelott (Astier's most famous work) known elsewhere outside of France? I fear most of its humour is untranslatable or would require a great deal of Woolseyism, but who knows.
Whatever your favourite work is, there is a Vocal Minority that considers it the Worst. Whatever. Ever!.So, watched the movie today and totally loved it. We were all laughing so hard. My favourite moment was towards the end when the senator said (I am paraphrasing): Basically everything is like it always was. And that is sometimes nice, isn't it?
That sums up Asterix and this movie so perfectly. I mean, it wasn't THAT original, there were elements and jokes from various Asterix comics in it, usually with a twist, but it was very, very familiar. And yet, that's why the movie felt so right. I was a little bit missing social critical jokes (other than the fish traders speech about his business, with every marketing phrase you can imagine peppered in it), but otherwise, it was a lot of fun. Even if Asterix and Obelix took a backseat to Miraculix this time around.
My favorite joke of the movie was definitely freaking Jesus having a cameo and his powers being deemed useless.
I wasn't a big fan of the mecha-battle at the end though. It felt… out-of-place in an Asterix movie.
Speaking of which, French youtuber Misterfox recently made a video about the English dub of Mansion of the Gods. There are English subtitles.

Flippé de participer à ce grand souper, je veux juste m'occuper de taper mon propre tempo.I am ready to forgive it because it is a different medium...plus, Obelix taking over the mecha was hilarious.
And at least you couldn't accuse the movie of being predictable.
I watched this video when it was published. I thought it was very funny to see Misterfox say that if you are a native English speaker, you should watch the English dubs because they are good ~ in a French language youtube channel that no native English speaker will follow.
(Likewise I liked the mecha finale).
I watched The Secret of the Magic Potion, and it was... interesting. It had quite a different tone to the last one, but it was still pretty good. I was a bit dissapointed that Pectine didn't get a more interesting ending. I figured after all that, she would be Panoramix' successor.
Optimism is a duty.Well, I mean, obviously Getafix was going to stay, but that would have been a nice touch.
Optimism is a duty.
It's out in Germany now...so...is it any good? I am thinking of watching it...
