There's Sanda if we want a red ape monster from Toho, but I don't think he's big enough to be a threat warranting both Godzilla and Kong.

Got to say, I thought that teaser was a fake at first. Some fanmade thing.

They could throw in the Gargantuas and retcon them into Kong Subspecies or something.

Hedorah could work, given Godzilla is meant to be nature's guardian while Hedorah is living pollution.

So rather than revamping classic Godzilla monsters, this movie will have an original antagonist not unlike the Mutos or the Skullcrawlers.

I mean, it was an expensive deal to get Toho's Big Five in the American shorelines. They couldn't even get Anguirus properly named for a cameo because of trademark issues.

And really, only Rodan and Mothra could come back. But Rodan isn't really an enemy to Godzilla ever since Ghidorah got blasted to smithereens.

I'd really like to see Rodan come back; love his MV design.

Also while I'm here: is there a general Monster Verse thread or is this basically it?

I also thought this was fanmade when I first saw it, if only because just how shippy the title sounds.

If Jet Jaguar ever does get included they could just do what the Netflix series did to explain his sizeshifting: he starts out small, but the humans keep building him bigger and bigger after repairs.

That, or just have him be a giant robot from the start. As I said, the movie he debuted in barely even bothered explaining the size-changing thing—it was basically a plot contrivance so he could fight alongside Godzilla, and only really served to make him an even bigger Ultraman knockoff than he already was.

I hope they bring back Gidorah somehow.

I know they had some plans to hint at Destoroyah at the end of Gv K. I assume they have put that on hold for now and went for an original anragonist here since they are now planning to make this a longer series and need to save some of the big guns for later.

*2.King Ghidorah, is for me something similar to Lex Luthor, and the Joker.

They are good villains, but I think they should let them rest for a while, and give other villains space.

You might be waiting a long time. The fact that they're jumping straight to Godzilla vs. Kong 2 without any other films in the interim does not bode well for the MonsterVerse.

These movies have been seeing diminishing returns, with King of Monsters barely even eking out a profit. Godzilla vs. Kong did better, but still underperformed Godzilla and Kong's first solo outings.

There's a real possibility that this might be the Monsterverse's finale.

(That King of Monsters specifically was a near-bomb may also be what's giving them cold feet about all the MonsterVerse spinoffs that film seemed to promise.)

I don’t think this is the finale. Godzilla vs Kong had a finale-ish feel to it as it was seemingly the last film by Legendary under their contract with Toho. Then all that was announced was possible Kong-focused sequels. However, Toho and Legendary renewed their contract last year, and there was an announcement of a Godzilla series and now this team-up film. So I think there’s still steam in the franchise, but for now they’re focusing mainly on Godzilla and Kong as they’re guaranteed sells unlike the other monsters currently.

You also have to consider that Gv K was released during the pandemic, when most cinemas were limited or closed, AND was released on HBO Max at the same time, so the fact that despite that it still made profit was seen as a success during the quarantine.

Is there a canonical evil version of King Kong before this new villain reveal in Godzilla x King Kong?

I'm glad Godzilla and Kong can finally admit their love for each other.

I don't know why any of y'all are surprised by this title. This was all very clearly foreshadowed in the previous film. I mean, look at this.

They're literally on a ship.
