Soooo, it's doing DBZA's Cell arc structure but worse?

Seems like it, the abridged series is still arguably shorter than the game but it doesn't feel that way ya'know.

Yeah, I was definitely disappointed with the date.

Having completed cloudstrife8's series yesterday, I agree with RedRob. it's crazy how good the pacing of that is compared to Machinabridged without sacrificing anything major to parody.

So, I wasn't too disappointed with the date, but I was still a bit disappointed. I thought it was going to be comedy gold, like a good chunk of it was in the game, but it took less than five minutes.

Honestly, I'm starting to think TFS should have kept this just a complete and total lampooning of the game, rather than try to play things seriously. Even the funny moments are starting to feel less funny now.

Huh. I was looking through the date mechanics and how the dialogue choices through the game allot points to Aerith, Tifa, Yuffie, and Barret to determine who Cloud dates. I noticed something:

When Don Corneo makes his choice of who to take:

  • If he takes Tifa
    • Inquiring about Aerith's wellbeing gives you a positive shift from Aerith.
    • Worrying about Tifa's safety gives you a negative shift from Aerith.
  • If he takes Aerith
    • Inquiring about Tifa's wellbeing gives you a negative shift from Tifa.
    • Worrying about Aerith's safety gives you a positive shift from Tifa.

Regardless of which girl he takes, both Aerith and Tifa approve of Cloud wanting to help Aerith and disapprove of him worrying about Tifa. TFS might be on to something with their catty, passive-aggressive Aerith.

EDIT: In general, the things that Tifa seems to admire on the date mechanics list are being a hard-drinking action guy who doesn't need anyone's help and always stubbornly defends himself.

Well I enjoy the show, at least.

[up] Me too. Granted, that may at least partially have to do with the fact that I’ve never watched the other FF7 abridged series (at least, not to my recollection), so I don’t really have the ability to compare and contrast it with Machinabridged.

Same. I do like it, don't get me wrong, and I haven't lost my interest (yet), but I'm just questioning some of their choices. I thought Season 1 was hilarious, and it was a little disappointing to see the comedy slowly start to drop off, in favor of being more super-serious. Yeah, there are super-serious moments in the game, but the game is so full of Mood Whiplash (only a few short minutes after that part, you send Elena snowballing down a hill and then go snowboarding ffs!) that I really wish they'd play the funny moments as hilariously as they could, while still sticking with the seriousness for serious scenes, rather than sacrifice humor for seriousness.

I think one thing that separates this show and DBZA is the quality of the source material. DBZ wasn't the best when it came to narrative, so TFS could only really go up in quality with the serious stuff.

FF 7, while it hasn't aged well, still had a better narrative than DBZ. So they can't exactly make things more serious to up the quality.

Side note, another thing I liked about strife's series was the built in subtitles as they kept in the text boxes. I'm hard of hearing, so I greatly appreciate such. It makes it easier for me to get the jokes.

Don't forget the visual gags with the subtitle boxes.

Don't get me wrong I like Machniabridge, but I feel it's the weakest of TFS's work.

Everyone felt that way at release, but as soon as Aerith entered the picture, quality shot up real quick. Problem is, like I said, it just feels like it's on the downward slope because there isn't nearly as much fun to be had anymore. Shit's gotten too serious, IMO. Even the date scene, one of the silliest scenes in the entire game, didn't get nearly as many laughs as it really should have gotten.

I wonder why Barrett can't stand QUAKE?

I've been curious about myself. I can't tell if it was a one-off about how there's apparently a similarly-named group that Barrett just hates, or if there's actually a QUAKE somewhere in the Compilation of FF-7.

Based on a quick trip to the FF Wiki, QUAKE does not exist within the canon Complication of FF 7. Looks like it was a one-off, considering we have AVALANCHE and TSUNAMI.

I guess the reason why Barrett hates QUAKE is because they take things a little too far. Or maybe they're just jackasses.

For shits and giggles, I have a headcanon that Shinra has numerous unseen rival companies like how there's freedom fighter groups other than AVALANCHE. Said companies include the Parasol Corporation, Leyland-Yutani, Black Plateau, D Corp, and Hyperdyne Systems.

You can't blame me for thinking there might actually be a group called QUAKE in the Compilation. ^_^

Well, we have the water-elemental TSUNAMI, and ice-elemental AVALANCHE, so all we'd need are earth-elemental QUAKE, fire-elemental INFERNO, lightning-elemental SOLDIERBOLT, and wind-elemental ANOTHERORGANIZATIONWITHCAPITALLETTERS.
