I still don't understand why the Prison Rape joke bothered people so much. I don't find it funny, but that's clearly not the same thing as the visceral reactions it got here.

People don't really find Prison Rape to be humorous...anymore.

I mean, there might have been a time when some got a laugh out of it, but that time has long since come and gone.

Rape is generally considered horrific and honestly for me to really get the black comedy rape, it needs to be somewhat over the top and unbelievable to be amusing. Threatening Cloud with it by saying he's a easy target with a lot of hair to grab isn't really that.

But does it need to be more extreme than hyperbolic?

The reaction to that joke wasn't nearly as bad as the Tv Tropes forums would have you believe.

"And that's exactly what the "thin ice" comment is: a threat. She is informing Cloud that he's a hair's breadth from provoking a violent response and should choose his next words and/or actions very carefully."

I really didn't read it as a threat, just a curt reminder that Cloud had just managed to make Aerith better and that she had forgiven him and that threading on another sensitive subject right now might not be a good idea. Like, she was doing him a favor here.

She says that in response to, "I'm really impressed that you two aren't at each other's throats."

Aerith has never been at anyone's throat. She disdains the other women in the party but she's very passive-aggressive about it. There is precisely one person in this room who would potentially be at anyone else's throat, so I don't think Tifa's threat was meant to imply that Cloud is at risk of offending Aerith.

I very much think so. Aerith's the one who's just forgiven Cloud and the one that Cloud has been making sad and upset since last episode. Tifa's just warning him that he's about to ruin everything if he doesn't think before talking.

So was this episode really the Season Finale? Cause they didn't label the episode as such like they did Season 1.

Yeah, it's the finale. They said the break between seasons will be smaller then between 1 and 2.

Rewatching Season 1, I can't wait to see how Abridged!Zack justified dating Abridged!Aerith.

She has "a booty that wouldn't quit".

Some people are fine dating Clingy Jealous Girls on the grounds that they don't want to be friends with women anyway.

Look at how popular anime Tsunderes are. That's basically what Abridged Aerith is, but without the story going out of its way to present those qualities in a positive light.

And hey if Tifa is a total bitch because of what happened in Neibelheim, maybe losing her boyfriend caused Aerith to become clingy. I mean she hasn't disapproved of Cloud having friends that are female.

Anime Tsundere's actually aren't all that popular anymore, at least out here in the west.

It is hit or miss in the west. We tend to like more though when the guys do it instead of the girls.

Well, I suppose there's the rareness of it. Of course, the guys aren't allowed to hit the girls, so maybe the lack of physical abuse also helps.

Uhh there is a lot of Would Hit a Girl Tsunderes in anime and increasingly so in recent years. Also who said it had to be a guy and a girl? There are not only a lot of platonic tsunderes out there and well guy on guy tsundere action.

DBZ has one of the biggest and most popular in Vegeta.

Heh. I guess when I think of Tsundere, I automatically think of the more violent ones, who's reaction to everything the male character does (regardless of how justified it is or isn't) is Megaton Punch.

It's been a long time though. Not that the obsession with obedient demure Waifus is much better mind you.
