GASP! Swamp Thing!?! This is the first news I heard of regarding that show. Is it going to be animated or live action? Or better yet will it be based on the original run by Len Wein or the Vertigo line from Alan Moore?

Oh man! That is some surprising news to hear!

I am a fan of the old show, but I've lost my bitterness towards this.

I do wish they toned down the take thats though. I get it, fans can be jerks, but you guys being jerks too doesn't make things better.

I mean, if you're gonna rip on your audience, you could at least make it more fun loving or something.

I honestly doubt Jade is Rose. Jade looks much older than her and her hair doesn't look like it could look any day like Rose's (beside the white hair, one would need an extensive haircut to be able to look like the other). Besides, while Rose's eye color is orange and has an eyepatch, Jade has blue/green eyes, both of them looking healthy and not cut off out of teenage mercenary daughter rebellion.

Adam West.

Michael Keaton.

Kevin Conroy.

Val Kilmer.

George Clooney.

Christian Bale.

Diedritch Bader.

Bruce Greenword.

Ben Affleck.

Will Arnett.

All of these men have become the Caped Crusader. And now Jimmy Kimmel shall be the Batman in Teen Titans GO! To The Movies.

Ha, no more voiceless cameo this time!

Why do I get the feeling that will be the only joke worth sitting through the movie to see?

[up]Because the Green Lantern jokes got made by Deadpool?

I’m sure they’ll make something worth seeing when it inevitably airs nonstop on CN for twelve hours straight. They actually have time to plan out the jokes and not worry about a deadline. Very few people can operate on the Matt and Trey Parker method of needing to be spontaneous in their writing. So inevitably having time to work on it will help them out.

Brace yourselves, you guys.

Apparently, we may get season 6 of the 2003 series if the TTG movie is considered "successful."

That’s friggin hilarious.

Then again, isn’t the movie supposed to have No Budget? It could do Solo numbers and be a rampaging success.

Wow. I was going to see this movie in theaters, but if this news of the success of this movie is bringing back the 2003 cartoon is true I changed my mind. The one percent chance of giving fans of the cartoon what they want is something I ain't willing to take.

. . . Than again, they could be trolling as usual.

OK, so I watched the trailer for the movie and. . .

it actually looks kind of funny, believe it or not. At the very least, it seems self-aware about the kind of movie it is, and acknowledges the show's flaws. We even hear Slade say "What are you going to do—annoy me to death?" In other words, the writers are cheerfully admitting that the show sucks and doesn't belong in the company of other DC Comics adaptations. Compare that to The Return of Slade, where they quite literally called fans of those other series children who refuse to grow up. So I'm cautiously optimistic for this movie. It could actually be decent. It wouldn't totally redeem TTG in my eyes, however. But if it's the series finale, it would be one hell of an awesome note for the show to end on.

Early reviews are in.

It's no small compliment to say that the feature film derived from Teen Titans Go!, a popular children's animated series, often proves far more enjoyable than the grown-up superhero blockbusters it spoofs.
With its self-aware meta humor the movie is very much a Deadpool for kids — with direct nods to Ryan Reynolds' franchise for good measure.
Teen Titans GO! to the Movies might be aimed at fans of the manic and underrated Cartoon Network show but any parent who tags along will likely chortle as the film gleefully skewers the world of superheroes and the film industry itself.
Teen Titans Go! to the Movies will delight audiences of all ages and remind us of the value of friendship, waffles, and superbly delivered jokes about the entertainment industry.
Teen Titans Go! To the Movies is one of the biggest surprises at the movies this summer. In fact, it's downright super.
This is wonderfully irreverent, totally meta and absolutely hysterical. It's not only a remarkably solid superhero movie, but also a side-splitting animated triumph.
If you are even remotely a superhero fan, you'll find something to enjoy in this big screen take on this popular series.
For anyone who thinks superhero movies take themselves just a little too seriously, Teen Titans Go! To the Movies is refreshingly irreverent, and family friendly too.
A brash and blithe-spirited animated comedy adventure for kids.

Oh shit, its actually getting positive reviews. Considering my own petty hate towards the original cartoon (and more specifically the fandom behind it who bitches about how bad this show, TTG, is 24/7) this pleases me . . . also TV Tropes really needs more emoticons as I wanted to put an evil grin there to relect hownI feel. You know, this face:

>:D

Really sums up my assholeish expression right now.

Still, if I go see this movie and end up enjoying it more than Incredibles 2; than that would be very ironic to find out the movie I waited a decade for is underwelming while the movie I (and many others) do not want turns out to be amazing.

[up] Don’t be petty K. I know how it feels & it’s not right, try to be mature. It’s the right thing to do.

Huh so the movies funny, makes sense I always liked the fact show better when it was more of a satirical take on DC properties as a whole instead of a lot of the surreal nonsense they like to put out.

Should do well at the box office then, I can’t imagine it was that expensive.

You know, I can actually understand why the movie is getting good reviews.

See, as a comedy, Teen Titans Go! doesn't really work. It expects us to follow five protagonists who are—not to put too fine a point on it—morons. Most of the show's conflicts revolve around the Titans being jerks to each other, rather than fighting villains the way superheroes are supposed to. Hence why they have episodes about being too old for a clown at a party, or about girls having cooties. The Titans in the show have no serious foil to balance their inanity, so the show is just them tossing their ridiculousness back and forth at each other. In other words, it suffers from the comedy equivalent of Darkness-Induced Audience Apathy.

That's why the crossover TTG vs. PPG was surprisingly well received. In the crossover, the Powerpuff Girls are disappointed with the Titans' ineptitude as superheroes, and clearly state as much. In other words, it gave the Titans something they were sorely lacking in their own show— an effective foil. All of the best comedy cartoon characters have foils to project their humor onto the audience. Sponge Bob has Squidward, Homer Simpson has Ned Flanders, you get the idea.

And that's what the movie is getting right that the show got wrong. The movie gives the Titans the foil they've needed all this time (Slade), actual consequences for their juvenile humor (they don't get a movie, while all the other superheroes do), and even a chance at redemption for them (they have to stop Slade when he mind-controls all the other heroes).

In other words, this movie is what Teen Titans Go! should have been all along—a self-referential, satirical, but at the same time affectionate parody of the superhero genre.

RE: Early reviews: ...Well. This is rather surprising. I mean what's next, reports of pigs suddenly growing wings on their backs?

In seriousness though, I guess [up] has a very valid point. I would love TTG if it wasn't so fixated on the Titans being incompetent jerks to each other and had more emphasis on silly good vs evil bouts.

On a related note, Animation Magazine had an article about this a while back that might've been foreshadowing this turnout?

These passages in particular feel rather significant:

Turning an animated series into a feature is an opportunity to delight both creators and fans alike, but it requires a delicate balance between developing a story that can hold fans’ attention for 80 minutes and keeping the tone, levity and characters that first drew them to the series.

Maintaining that balance proved especially challenging for Teen Titans Go!, a series composed of self-contained 11-minute episodes which, as producer Aaron Horvath readily admits, has “no overall story.” Horvath, who co-directed the feature version Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, says that in the series, “We feel perfectly comfortable setting up an emotional payoff for a story and then pulling the rug out in the last scene just for a goof.”

But that was something Horvath and his co-director Peter Rida Michail (director and character designer on the series) quickly realized wouldn’t work in the movie, which comes out July 27. “We can't expect an audience to invest 80 minutes into these characters and then just be completely cynical about it like we do on the show,” Horvath points out.

(...)

While the feature has a “more earnest tone”, Horvath says, it hasn’t lost any of the cheeky humor that endears it to viewers, as evidenced by the first slate of teasers and trailers. The first trailer for the film, which ends with a fart joke, earned a lukewarm reception, but Horvath was buoyed by the reaction to a subsequent teaser featuring Deathstroke (Will Arnett) bad-mouthing his Marvel copycat Deadpool, which quickly went viral on social media. “There’s just a lot of built-in dislike for what we make,” Horvath explains. “And so to see people going like, ‘Alright, I don't like this show but this actually looks good’, I was like, ‘Ha! We got ‘em!’”
