It's a missing chance Kion didn't get to have a SOS Lion Brigade along lionesses Haruhy, Yuky and Mykuru and young ambiguous lion Ytsuki.

[up]Disney believe our eyes catch up on fire if we ever watch a video intended for another geography zone.

[up] Te amo.

Also, I wonder if at one point people will point the similarities Kion has to Scar to make him angst about being possibly evil LOL.

Just saw the pilot. It was okay. Not horrible, but not amazing, either. Surprisingly dark for a show aimed at toddlers. The animation was really good, and I liked some of the songs.

I just watched it. I feel like this could be a fantastic show if it were a little more ambituous and less gimmicky, but as it stands, it's just okay. If it's aimed at toddlers, it could certainly be way worse, and if nothing else it sports some of the most impressive animation you're ever likely to see on TV today. I might at least watch a few more episodes to see if the show can realize its potential now that the character introductions are taken care of.

As a side note, Simba's new actor sounds almost nothing like Matthew Broderick. Khary Peyton nails Rafiki, though, and Timon's actor does an okay impression.

Also, if Scar murdered the all old Lion Guards, presumably prior to the start of the movie, why exactly would Mufasa be so trusting of him? Wouldn't that be a pretty clear warning sign he was evil?

It was specifically said Scar killed the old Lion Guards in a plot to take over as king. If he'd tried to do that before, why the heck would Mufasa be so surprised when he tried again?

The original Lion King really gave me the impression that Scar hadn't done anything overtly villainous until he killed Mufasa. Otherwise Mufasa just comes across as a moron.

Does it come as something that was clear by the time Mufasa was alive, or just as something that was found out later somehow?

[up]How would they find out later? All the people involved are... kinda dead.

Unless Scar admitted to the whole thing at some point while he was king. Surely he's not that stupid, though.

Maybe the lions just assumed Scar did it once they learned he killed Mufasa. "Oh, in hindsight, Scar probably killed the Lion Guard, too. Yeah, that's probably what happened."

Well, Simba is classified as an animal racist now.

I really hope this changes the game of "Edutaiment" television.

The correct term is speciesism.

Plus, weren't there only, like, FOUR lion cubs we saw in the special? How can he make a team out of three female cubs?

I wish we'd learn more about the characters parents. Who the heck are Tiifu's and Zuri's parents? Is Fuli an orphan or did she leave early? So many questions.

I'm trying to catch up on the series by watching season 2 and that first episode was something. Are we supposed to find the jackals evil for hunting baby animals? Are Fuli and Kion just monopolizing the zebra for themselves? I think the message was supposed to be "These jackals were on the wrong territory", but it was muddled badly.

This series seems prime on Carnivore Confusion. There was always some to the franchise, but for the most parts predators stuck with predators. Now we have predators casually hanging out amongst their prey.

the main page for the series and the YMMV page did a good job pointing out why some of the criticisms is a bit unfounded but there is one thing I don't think has been covered.

some people point out that the Guard sometimes go into the Outlands without provocation. usually, they do that because a Pridelander had ended up there and they had to save them. the only true case of trespassing in the Outlands I can think of is when they helped Dogo and that came back to bite them.

Well Kion and Bunga also did it in the pilot episode while they were playing.

also, about the prey animals being friendly with the predators, that's not unheard of in the real Animal Kingdom. look at the Real Life section of Interspecies Friendship.

But they're not very common either.

There's also the issue of ehtics and shit. Simba's pride will never eat Pumba. So are all other warthogs still screwed (which is nepotism) or are they off the menu (which goes against the Circle of Life)

[up][up] It's very rare. I keep on seeing videos in recommendations of people letting their rabbits and cats, or something similar, interact and that's cringe-worthy. The moment you turn your back something bad will happen.

if Real Life Interspecies Friendships only apply to the specific individuals involved, I don't see why it wouldn't work that way in The Lion Guard. it wouldn't be unethical because they still need to eat meat.

similar to what I said on the thread for Friendship is Magic, I am also thinking this show has had a problem with Easily Forgiven and Karma Houdini even if in this case, it's stopped happening. it's weird that Bunga got punished for his Nice Job Breaking It, Hero moment in Paintings and Predictions but Kion never is for his multiple screw ups. you could argue that there's no time to punish him because there are so many threats but that would contradict what happened with Bunga and the Prideland isn't ALWAYS in immediate danger.

How is it a problem if a show aimed at children promotes forgiveness rather than punish characters for your perceived transgressions?
