Avar-Laren

Sebastien winced sympathetically at the Brachydios getting its ass beat. He then looked back at Luin and Rime. Yeah, no. They're not equipped for taking on Baltaos and those poachers at once.

"Much as I'd love to take those guys out, I think we need more firepower." he said as much. "Though I'm open to any ideas you might have."

DNC

Medicine looked surprised by the arrival of the queen. She had expected her to still be fighting or something but damn did they really lose that fast?

"Err, good to see you alive your highness." she says awkwardly, unused to addressing royalty. She winces at her injuries and one of her backpack's mechanical arms pulls out some disinfectant and another some bandages. "If you want I could quickly deal with that gash of yours. So it doesn't get infected."

It'd also OOC probably help her notice any sussyness that silly smapp is sussing.

Intrigue

"Woah! That's pretty cool." Okuu says, admiring the near replica of her trademark arm cannon. She looks even more amazed at the firepower it displays, like a kid who just saw a lot of candy.

"Check this out though." she said, aiming her arm cannon forward. Energy visibly pulsed across it and Yatagarasu's eye on her chest glowed as she charged it up. Air rushed in before being pushed away as she then blasted out a beam of blue energy, screaming out the barrel and towards a distant hilltop. The beam punched through it and down towards the ground before an explosion engulfed the impact zone.

By the time the smoke cleared there was a crater instead of a hill.

"Hehe, whatcha think of that?" Okuu asked, smiling.

Kana get off the assassin and glance at the queen, eyes widening in slight shock. She doesn't think that there could be anything wrong. And by that, I mean that she doesn't entertain the notion. If anything, it might be because she suddenly realized that she maybe screwed up not staying behind to help the adventurers or mercenaries fighting in the back.

Or maybe she just feel bad about two daughters seeing their bloodied mother. Either way, she doesn't register someone's sex change in front of her with how distracted she is.

Either way, Kana decide to approach her but slowly, as if not to get the others worried, arms held out to properly support if she needs. With her strength, a grown person in armor wasn't difficult to lift and carry. But given her status and condition, she didn't want to just flip her over her shoulder like a bag of potatoes.

Erm, let me help you, your majesty. She says.

Estraole forest (we now return to our regularly-scheduled program, again)

"Yet another triumph for Othar Tryggvassen!" Othar flexed with pride after having punched the Spectator so far. Tarvek was looking away when it happened, so all he noticed was the Spectator flying into a bunch of trees. The monster, enraged and injured, began to charge at its assailant, too fixated on revenge to hear the voices of other enemies behind it.

Tarvek, deep in Spark-induced hyperfocus, was quickly able to notice the Spectator's state of distraction and vulnerability. He turns to Mouz and Zalade to say, "Look, it's weak. Now's our chance! Are you with me?" From his armour came his electrically-enhanced daggers. He ran closer to the Spectator in the hopes of electrocuting and/or shashing at its weakened eyes. Tarvek was hoping that his allies were likewise aiming to attack the monster along with him.

Well, even if it’s someone, they’ll have to set that aside for now. They gotta go do something after all.

Cycling back home, they pass by the local music shop to see a suitable bass if the school doesn’t have any. Hmm, this dark blue one looks cool. Simply using music applications would help, but a physical instrument feels like you’re actually putting in the effort.

It’s a pretty simple night at home, reading about chords and experimenting with UI possessing their phone.

Speaking of UI, what would happen if it possesses a gaming console?

Putting UI into their Switch (for breaktimes and when they eventually manage to invite someone over), they pull out the Joy-Cons and fiddles around with the buttons.

Firstly, their Interaction Mode HUD pops up, being more physical than when they’re simply talking to someone else and their speech box pops up.

In Combat Mode, they can use the circle stick to choose the block they like and in a more action-oriented UI, downright attack using only morion controls.

These functions are going to come in handy someday, for now let’s continue focusing on what the UI can do when possessing a smartphone.

The next morning was also nothing special in terms of arriving at school, other than “Pyra” directly heading to the clubroom.

Even with yesterday’s awkward lunchtime, the room itself is still a pretty good place to relax - not to mention with the instruments in there, they can practice bass without feeling out of place.

Lo and behold, there’s an actual bass in there. Not the same model as the one that caught their eye at the music shop, still good for practicing.

Just as they’re practicing some chords, the door handle clicks.

The main benefit of those arrows are their ability to sap energy without Emma having to take them in directly. Akin to someone sticking their tongue on an ice pole, it's an extreme version of thermal equilibrium she's weaponizing. Instead of melting, the ice simply vaporizes into thin air.

Emma isn't making the same mistake as before by recklessly absorbing energy-adjacent attacks. She sees Icarus' coolant and takes inspiration. She sucks more heat to reinforce her radius, the ice grows thicker and it forms a sphere of frost at the cost of seeing anything at all — including precise energy sensing.

Yet, with how new all of this is her, they crack from a single blast. Streaks of light shine through the damage, and after enough fireballs, the barrier eventually shatters and the proceeding explosions concuss and disorient her greatly.

All that sucked in heat doesn't go nowhere, with this extreme degree of absorption, she's entered that state where her entire body glows a brilliant light. Her gas cannon transforms into an anti-materiel rifle and she has her eyes set on Azura... Or wherever Emma thinks Azura is.

Even if she can't see her, even if she can't even sense her, she can still feel where the blasts come from. So with blind luck and a gun, she aims at where the mage is and unleashes a barrage of explosions in for her general area.

Large chance she would be really off mark on Azura's exact location, but the sheer number of explosions can probably make up for it!

But not the door to the hallway. The door to the balcony. It cracks and promptly falls out of its hinges as it's met with the full force of a robot with cargo pants, a cappy and a skateboard. The robot looks slightly battered and disoriented, but is otherwise fine. A synthetic groan comes from it as it gets up and finds its bearings.

"Sorry, missed a grind rail. If a teacher shows up, uh..."

Switch looks at the now broken door.

"...tell them a bird crashed into the door? Who cares."

He walks over to a nearby whiteboard, and in an instant, sprays a graffiti onto it reading "Lethal League". He skates his way towards the balcony again, before stopping right at the exit and turning around.

"School, huh." The robot pauses and nods at Pyra. "Doesn't it get boring in here?"

Beach time

The Fiend is a very powerful beast. The entire group had seen that by that point. And with that overwhelming power came no caveat, aside from a short time to get going. Or did it? From with the power of the Fiend came Pride. And with that pride came mistakes. The beast saw Ovarr coming but yet it refused to think he could do anything too serious against it. As such, despite its great speed, it ends up being flipped over by him.

Nothing that should be serious for it, the beast being moreso further confused and angered, but being held in mid-air means that the creature isn't as immovible as it can be unless exposed to absurd force. As such, Tilra is able to keep it in the air, the flicked shards barraging its body without causing any mark but nonetheless causing it to, against all notions of physics, just shake up and down in mid-air, preventing it from getting back to solid ground.

Sarah observes Ovarr, noting his demeanor. I will. Solemnly nodding, she watch him go and crack her neck, preparing herself as to where she should go. And just like that, she happen to notice the Fiend being under attack from Tilra.

And right as her output might threaten to drop, Sarah is able to use the demon's anger and frustration to kick it in the back. She didn't know of the time limit, but she thought that it'd be wise to keep it helpless. Naturally, she doesn't kick it at Tilra, instead shoving it higher into the air without giving it the momentum and chance to come crashing down like a meteor.

But then, the demon's arm (one of them) lash out and grasp her leg, Sarah snarling in pain as it squeezes her leg just hard enough to keep her there, but not hard enough that she can outright rip it off and escape that way. Sarah immediately kick it up to Limit Breaker, swinging the Necrosword at the Fiend's arm, but it gets stuck, practically bouncing off its arm.

And as another of its arm grabs Sarah's neck, she huffs, wondering if she won't be the one calling for help but refusing to show any fear to the Fiend.

And then, a sudden flash of light interrupt the scenery, the result of Croque blowing herself up on Azura's barrier. This and Tilra skating on it cause it considerable stress, helped by Artemis breaking through it, causing the entire structure to shatter into big intangible pieces. Azura had taken too risky a gambit in giving her anti-teleportation field a "shape" which they could break through.

And as a result, Sarah smirks before disappearing from the Fiend's grasp, teleporting off it and leaving the monster to roar in anger.

Meteorika could have probably survived the Destruction ability, all things granted. His ability wasn't merely an instant kill - it also insured him a peculiar "shape" he could have taken. But still, being prevented from recovering means that he gets blasted by Ovarr's black lightning on top of being already shredded to the core by Flandre. This proves too much to him and he gets utterly donkey-slammed, his essence being reduced to nothing, with only his agonized screams's echoes to persist.

Azura's eyes widen at the Pope's very painful demise but she decide to lock in harder at the sight of it, moving to immediately try to execute Flandre. This ignore, however, Cittufeni, who's able to grab her wrist and slam her into the ground hard. This help Sarah teleport to Flandre and try to pick her up in her arms, nodding gratefully to Cittufeni before she teleport off. But where? She doesn't really know.

She just decide to drop her in the jungle away from the fight. With Flandre looking kind of beat up, Sarah decide to stab herself (a small lot) in the palm of her hand with her necrosword-tipped nails, willing for the wound to stay open -and widening it with her fingers- to try to feed Flandre a lot of her blood at once. She didn't know if it'd be potent or not, but it's not like it'd matter too much.

Regardless, even if it doesn't work, Sarah back off, the wound closing. Kinda wished I could've sacked that guy a hundredfold. She says, pouting, assuming Flandre's state isn't too bad.

Elsewhere, Azura herself teleport off Cittufeni's grasp, realizing that she and A Fiend (soon about to be Evelyn) are the only two left, with Saitama being busy Gor-knows-where. Panic briefly set upon her face again, replaced with anger again. I'll die before I let the church vanish! I swear it on my honor! As Icarus's bullets go flying (btw there are still comets headed his way lol), Azura uses Grasp Magic to effortlessly snatch them out of the air, forming an orbiting ring of bullet around her.

By reading into the future, she sees the effects Artemis's arrows have on her. Luckily for her, they're slow to her. And she just launch the bullets at them to cause them to detonate early and harmlessly, without the field hitting her. At the same time, she boost herself up with magic, charging at Cittufeni to try to hit him straight in the stomach to send him flying. However, moving quickly, she then try to snatch him by the leg to toss him back.

And that's when Jack come in. Azura's eyes widen in shock and despair. Just how immortal were they?! Anytime one of them was in danger, they were brought to safety or powered-up. That jungle is not to our advantage... Azura frowns. As Jack prepares his punch and as a barrage of explosions slam into her, the elf woman raise her fists and smash her pauldrons-cauldrons with them. And while there is the very beginning of an explosion, she uses her Energy Magic to cause the energy to smoothly orbit around and then disappear into her to be absorbed. The uselessly huge chunks of pauldrons come flying down around her as Azura spreads her arms, slowly approaching the explosions and facing down Jack's blast.

First come Emma's blasts, spreading Emma's way like some kind of explosive fungus. Orbs of annihilation that ravage huge chunks of the beach, the smallest one of them far bigger than Azura, and seeming like warts on the much bigger main blasts. Not one to be outdone, Jack's beam doesn't necessarily surpass the blasts, but it cuts through them on its way to Azura, as she slams her hands towards to try to stop both.

It's more than that though. She's trying to use Energy Magic to directly absorb them into herself, negating the damage they do while powering-up. A daunting manoeuver when done only on one. But the two of them... Azura grits her teeth and falter as blood spurts from her arms, the overwhelmed Elf being sent reeling back even as her feet try to dig themselves into much-frailer ground as hard as they can.

The sleeves on her suit burn away before the inelven effort she's forced to shoulder. And for the briefest of moments, as the energy goes past her hands to engulf her arms, burning them into functional-but-charred crisps, she feel the urge to just accept her defeat and let a peaceful death wash over her.

But she can't.

Maybe to these guys, the Church was an evil organization; But for her, it was family. It was an organization that could be used to bring legitimate good to all the worlds. And what's more, her allies had died on the field of honor. To give up on herself was already greatly insulting to Gor, but also to her fallen allies. Them, and every one of her allies back at the Hyrule Castle, who had helped her fend off the Skaven threat and then Malagor.

If she hadn't given up when faced with an avatar of so many twisted gods, how could she give up when against all those heretics, who had to be as tired as she was? For the sake of the Church, she had to fight on.

EVELYN! PIN THEM DOWN! NOOOOWWWWWW!!!

Stuck inside Jack's beam, having returned to the ground but finding even itself pinned by the sheer combined output of Emma and Jack, the prideful Fiend look up to what Azura has to say and obey. Using its powers of the sinful LUST instead of relying on the natural power of PRIDE, the Demon catch a wide net of gravity over the battlefield. One so strong that even Sarah, all the way to the jungle, will be pinned to her knees, barely able to get herself moving. Even Icarus will be drawn to the ground like a comet despite his distance.

At this crucial point, Azura roars and lift the mass of energy created by Jack and Emma, pouring her magic into it to not stick only to that : Instead, she up and create an enormous unstable glaive of energy, one so big as to be a veritable skyscraper. Azura's bloodied, woobly, burnt arms still hold it up as if it were a common sword. And she doesn't hesitate one bit in using it exactly as she'd use one.

She lifts it overhead.

And swing it down;

The entire world is split in two from that point on, the "infinite" beach finding itself very finite as a wave of white energy wash over it. Even the Fiend screech in pain as it gets engulfed, though its warped existence is able to keep itself going anyway. Regardless, that such a powerful entity can be struck down and that thoroughly pained is a big hint to the fighters that they should consider investing into defense.

Sarah appears on the battlefield, barely mobile thanks to her full strength, offering her hands to the nearest fighters. Once they grab on, she then teleport off. But find, to her horror, that even going as far as she can go won't help. She hold her hands up in an attempt at blocking...

A beam of white energy wash on through the entire world, black cracks spreading from it as the beach setting, and everyone inside, is engulfed in white. It's thankfully not reality ending, but something damn close : the strain on the world is just so great that the beach setting, unable to cope with the damage, reset itself into the simplest setting possible short of a white void.

By the time the fighters emerge, they'll be standing in a huge empty desert with white sand and a black starless sky, with only a moon to brightly illuminate the battlefield. But despite the reset, the battlefield seem like it's been forever scarred by the attack. And as a result, a huge wall of unstable pale energy is forever etched unto it, reaching into the sky and splitting the battlefield in two halves.

The Fiend, Evelyn, reforms itself right as its timer ends. Unable to slay anybody to keep its existence going, the seven heads screech in confused energy before the fire fades, the Fiend's existence dispersing into a thousand red particles, leaving Evelyn behind, powerless for a minute.

... Go get 'em... sis... She manage to moan, her body unbearably heavy as she drops her head to the side. A ploy to buy time, but she is genuinely helpless for about a minute of time. After which, she'll be able to use her abilities effectively again.

Whether Azura knows that or not though, she stands at the end of the scar she carved upon this smaller reality, holding a much smaller blade of unstable white energy in one hand. She glances down at the fighters with a forlorn look, wanting to check to see if she's killed anyone. But she hasn't killed Sarah at least, the redhead approaching the dune that Azura happens to be standing upon while cracking her knuckles.

She has gotten hit by the outer edges of the blast, so even with her regeneration and toughness, she's worse for wear. Her coat is tattered fabric, burns, bleeding bruises and wounds are all over her face and exposed arms, her pants are torn in place and she's got at least one shoe outright blown off. Only her glasses yet endure, though they're comically twisted, one branch being almost snapped off.

Azura herself look worse for wear. Her arms look awful, blood pours from her mouse, nose and ears as a token to the effort she's invested into this. And while she stands tall, fatigue threatens her.

Whatever it is you're going to say, think of them carefully. They'll be your last wo- Azura warns, sternly. Sarah doesn't say anything back, instead immediately attacking her with a bolt of black lightning while Azura is busy talking. Azura retaliate by swinging her sword in a upwards circle, cutting the bolt in half and hurling a wave of white energy at Sarah. A much smaller one, but one the Sister still prepare to facetank to buy time for anyone who hasn't recovered yet.

Sunless void.

Tilra struggles against the Fiend's gravity wave. In Interstellar Overdrive, she's probably stronger than even limitbreaker Sarah, so if anyone could at least try and not get sent to the ground like a rock in a

rock. gravity. that's a normal thing for rocks to do I think.

Point is, this is a futile effort, not because she can't but because if you may recall, using Interstellar Overdrive for even a split second is an intense effort on Tilra part. She practically has no choice but to cancel it, at which point, she's sent to the ground.

At the very least, she's satisfied to feel Meteorika eat it. Silver lining for everything.

Standing without too much effort at least, Tilra can practically taste the power of the attack Azura prepares. She contemplates her choices.

If she tried to absorb it, she'd probably... not fare well. The only thing she could think to do was to get as many of them out of its blast radius as she could manage.

Which, she couldn't do.

Her fault for making all her techniques so selfish. Tilra shade-warps as far away from the attack as possible, providing A Pillow Of Winds as a barrier for each of her allies that may, at the very least, kind of sort of a little bit give them a split-second longer to choose how to escape Armageddon.

Tilra herself...

Can't fight any more. On the outskirts of the implosion, she defends herself with a hexagonal energy barrier that just about barely holds, and promptly falls asleep. It's all she can do to recollect her strength.

Well, there is one other thing she could do - interrupt her preparation of Return of the Son of Nothing and re-absorb the energy she's put and will continue to put into making sure it gets used - but she simply refuses to do that unless it proves absolutely, categorically necessary.

Icarus' thrusters are still at well over 100 degrees Celsius, but they're cold enough to flare up again. His supplies are slowly running out, with his coolant at 30% capacity. He keeps firing it, though, in a concentrated stream precisely aimed against the incoming fire missiles, while keeping up the machine gun fire.

Once the time comes around to face Azura's energy attack, he has no choice but to dodge. He opts to grab on to Sarah with a burst of his warp drive, not having any time to mourn Croque's self-destructive attack. Afterwards, he positions himself in front of Tilra - if he couldn't deliver attacks properly, then he'd at least help to defend.

If I get knocked out hard, then somebody grab my hard drive and keep it until this battle is over if you can. I'll return the favour somehow!

He notes that the Fiend is knocked out. If only he had guided missiles to fire.

Yes, with an 's'.

The crystal housing Artemis' soul shines brightly, exchanging a ton of her stored mana to recreate her whole body. She can't use that specific World Magic again for a whole month- but this was important enough to warrant it.

Artemis sits up, her mana almost entirely drained and her body disoriented. She spotted a downed Evelyn not too far away, so she raises one hand...

And clenches it tightly, forming a few spears of light to skewer the fallen fiend. She tips a mana potion down her throat and sighs, feeling it slowly take effect. She can't use them too often, lest her Mana Gate weaken- but this was an occasion where she needed one.

Artemis warps out, laying low near a sand dune, though close enough to see the fight continue.

Da Beach of Gore

Upon seeing Meteorika's fate, Ovarr shows a demented, cathartic grin. He has to full-on stop himself from cackling maniacally in delight. His only regret is that he wasn't able to hurt them more for what they did to him personally just now.

While he does mentally note the arrival of Jack Ashton, he does not connect the dots and realize who he is/was.

He turns back to see the current state of the battle. Two enemies left (well, and Saitama, but he hasn't proven to be a problem to them so far), one of which he's still sapping energy from at the moment. Which proves helpful, because he's now beginning to feel the consequences of just flying through that hail of projectiles and explosions just now. He lets himself rest for a few seconds. At the moment it seems like his allies have Azura handled anyway.

By the time he's ready to go again, he suddenly feels an immense increase in gravity that forces him on the ground. Even in his empowered state, he's not able to stand fully upright in this gravity field. And as Azura readies her attack, Ovarr realizes he and his allies are sitting ducks. He can't save his allies, not without more time to spare. So he'd have to focus on saving himself and hoping his allies can handle this too.

Ovarr's book opens and flips through its pages.

Azura swings her makeshift weapon down at everyone.

The book glows.

The strike hits. The battlefield splits as the white energy beam bursts through, eventually reverting into a white, desert-like void. As the Fiend turns back into a weakened Evelyn, the stream connected to her is dispelled as its intended target no longer exists.

As Azura looks around to see the results of her attack, she may see something noteworthy: Ovarr is nowhere to be seen. His book is gone as well. Did she actually succeed in killing him? Or, like some of his allies before, is this an omen of something else? Yeah, in his empowered state he should be tougher than Sarah was and she survived, but Ovarr was also closer to the attack than Sarah was, so that's not a deciding factor.

However... something else noteworthy is that there seems to be a spectral-like mist flowing around the battlefield now, and it's moving towards Azura. Since it's nearly see-through, the white background of the void they now fight in may make it nearly impossible to see for anyone, save for those who have a form of enhanced vision.

If the spectral mist reaches Azura, it'll suddenly attempt to latch onto her and infiltrate her body through any wounds she might have. And if that point is reached, she may just find that her body won't move as fluidly as it should anymore, almost as if something is trying to wrestle control away from her.

Depending on how strong her willpower is, she may be able to resist Ovarr's hold on her, but likely not enough to fully cast him back out, not unless she's capable of performing an exorcism on herself.

Of course, if the spectral mist doesn't reach Azura for any reason, it'll simply try to keep getting closer with the intent to eventually get to her and do the above.

In the year 202X, all is devastation... Soon, any last shred of hope had by the saintliest optimist shall die and decay.

Quickly preparing a damp towel to extinguish their scars and packing up their belongings, “Pyra” heads for the hallway door, but glances at the balcony door to see if the robot skaterboarder’s still there.

"Heh... take that you wannabe youkai." Flandre spits at Mahito, before glaring at Azura. She expects to get goobered so she's pleasantly surprised by Sarah coming for the save. She doesn't hesitate to drink the ensuing blood shower from Sarah, licking her lips afterwards as she slowly gets up and stretches, making some cracking noises. Been a while since she was tired enough for them to do that.

"Thank you." she says, resummoning Laevateinn. "And I assure you, it was extremely painful for that wretch."

She dismisses Karasu, sending her familiar back to wherever the fuck it stays when not summoned somewhere only to feel the crushing Gravity and end up on her knees as well. She grits her teeth as Azura does her ensuing super sword attack. Sarah's blood helped but it was like drinking coffee at an all nighter. Sure you got a boost but it wasn't as good as actual rest.

She strains to bring Laevateinn up, as if to block this like she would any other projectile attack. Truthfully she doesn't expect it to work, or stop the ensuing explosion but it's not like she can teleport out-

She blinks as she's in a different place, outside the church. Huh?

"You know, I'm supposed to be your familiar too."    Daiakuma huffs, holding the staff Whis gave her and having used it to amplify her teleport.

"Right." Flandre sighed, taking the moment to catch her breath and recollect herself. "Now send me back in."

Daiakuma sighs in exasperation.

"I was afraid you'd say that."    she says, begrudgingly sending her back. She wasn't quite good enough to do this in the middle of a melee but in a massive telegraphed attack like that? Sure. Though admittedly she also didn't have the time to grab anyone else.

Anyway Flandre is back in the fight zone soon enough and right after the blast, a bit surprised to put it mildly at the new scenery. She'd love to go after Azura but upon seeing Evelyn down she opts to join Artemis in dogpiling on her, jumping up and sending a destructive barrage of crystal projectiles. Nothing fancy this time.

He's there... for a moment. Then he realizes the kid probably has no conception about what's to come.

Oh well, better run off before the cops come here.

The robot grinds on the balcony's edge, leaps to a higher floor, and arrives on the roof, where he finds a boombox playing a song.

"Oh hey, what are you doing here?"

MAKING SURE YOU DON'T LEAD THE COPS TO US WHILE TAGGING UP THE AREA.   , a bassy, loud voice responds from the boombox.    AGAIN.

"Hey, they haven't caught us the first time, what are they gonna do now?"

Switch walks up to a roof exit and places another graffiti - this one shows a skateboard with a robot head on it, not unlike his.

I THINK THEY'LL PULL EVERY SINGLE BOLT OUT OF YOUR SCRAP BRAIN ONE BY ONE UNTIL THERE'S NOTHING LEFT OF YOU, RUST FACE. UNLESS I BEAT SOME SENSE INTO YOU.

Within no time, the boombox has grown two jet legs, a pair of massive hands, and a coat. With a swing of the fist, it sends Switch down into the courtyard, right underneath a wide stone gate.

"Oh, you wanna fight? Hell yeah!"

From his pockets, Switch produces what seems to be a glowing red baseball - with the oddity that it hovers. While Doombox is jumping down to him, he's already made the first few hits on the ball, making it bounce all around the gate.

I'LL MAKE YOU EAT SHIT, SCRAP FOR BRAINS.

"Hey, don't say that here! Think of the children!" Switch laughs.

What follows is unbelievable chaos. The robot and boombox take turns punching the ball - making it ricochet all over the place. Sometimes one of them would hit it multiple times while in the air. And as the game progresses, the ball only gets faster.

The callouts get more and more intense. Switch kickflips the ball into an awkward angle. Doombox redirects the ball directly into Switch by shouting at it. Switch barely catches the ball with a bunt, then makes an overhead slam with the board towards the opposite corner, watches the ball make three bounces, then spikes it into a sharp vertical angle. Doombox catches the ball, hits it forward, grabs it for a downwards throw, lands, grabs it again for a horizontal throw close to the ground, then slams it in a diagonal angle. The fight escalates... until the cops arrive.

   TOLD YOU, FUCKFACE.

Switch spares no moment to drive the ball into the next-best policeman coming through the door - somehow, riot shields turned out to be an appropriate course of action for them. Doombox grabs the robot along with his skateboard and throws him out of the school's court and into the skyline, and, after flipping the bird to the incoming policemen, blasts off.

  • Beyond My League

First period went mostly smoothly - except when “Pyra” glances out of the window they can see the robot guy fighting a boombox and then the riot police.

Well, they have a lesson AND this combat they’re witnessing is way beyond their league compared to the fight on the train, so other than trying to figure out how this city works they’re not going to just ninja out of class.

| You |

(The combat here is intense! Is this perhaps why the rent was so cheap due to risk of the place being blown up during such events?)

Break time is a bit more iffy. With the break room now unavailable (“Pyra” notified the teachers about damage to the balcony door but was too confused by Switch to bring him up), they’ll have to practice somewhere.

They feel that sensation of being watched again. Their theories of why ranges from the innocent “underclassmen admiring them from afar” to the spooky “eldritch being/spirit of the campus that isn’t supposed to be seen that inhabits the school”.

Maybe even other ninja recognising their kind, though the only time “Pyra” did something remotely ninjalike at school is sticking near the walls to not get in the way of the crowd during breaks.

They turn their head.

Game

Detail that Psyco forgot to include: When the party enters the snow region, they find themselves suddenly bundled up in character-appropriate winter clothing out of nowhere.

Charlie checks out her new coat. "Huh? Where did..."

Victoria inspects her own.    "Comfy."

Delilah explains, '"It seems there was supposed to be an NPC or invisible wall stopping you from entering the snowy region until you picked up winter clothes from Lolbit's abandoned shop. But whatever was supposed to stop you just wasn't there. It's a sign of the game growing less stable."

And then, on cue, they encounter Data Freddy.

Charlie is inflicted with Fear.

Even though the coat should be keeping her warm, Charlie still shivers, just at the sight of the thing.

Victoria is, once again, immune. She looks between herself, Jax, and Noah, the only ones not inflicted with the status.    "Looks like the kids are all scared out of their wits. Maybe we should just bail from this encounter, if we can."

She cracks a grin.    "Unless you think the three of us can take it."

"Aye." She answered Hange swiftly and bluntly. It came as no surprise to her that the woman had heard of Mordor (having not been present while Ladwin namedropped it), for the land itself, very nearby, was no secret, nor was its history, the war hundreds of years ago that had consumed the lives of so many…it was what happened after the war that they had striven to keep secret, the fate of the rings and their sacred, ancestral duty in Al-Agadd. "These crypts are a maze in which our foes may be easily lost; there is no true passage out, save for the stairwell behind us…but there are secrets. You’ll understand that I don’t easily share the specifics though, I hope."

Taye’s question and Joy’s offer came, and once again, she answered in kind: "The only ones remaining in the keep are my own soldiers, stalling the enemy’s advances throughout the keep. I’ve come to personally escort my daughters to safely, and then I’ll return to oversee the retreat."

"But, mother—!"

"Hush now." The Queen regarded Kai’s sudden transformation with a hint of curiosity—a display of magic, for true, though a most strange moment to do such a thing. Perhaps it had something to do with the rope? She was more interested, though, in the prisoner in question: "That hood…"

"An assassin, Your Grace, sent to…kill your daughters." He hesitated to say the word in their presence but spoke it nonetheless, and Emilia’s face was suddenly clad with grief. "They stopped him, but he doesn’t seem to speak the Westron tongue.." He trailed off as he watched the Queen approach the grounded man. She drew a dirk from her belt and gripped it so tight her knuckles paled, glaring down at him with suppressed rage.

"My father always told me it was dishonorable to kill a man without a blade in his hand. That is the only reason you live, assassin. Get him up; bind him and bring him with you, if you would, but do not let him live at the cost of one of your lives. The moment he slows you down…cut his throat. That’s an order." She held the dirk out grip-first for whomever was brave enough to take charge of the prisoner.

Next she shook her head at the offers of Medicine and Kana alike, turning both down. "There will be time for aid and addressing wounds later. Right now, all I care about is the safety of my daughters. And on that note…we’d ought to get a move on."

"Your Grace, what of…you know?" Ladwin asked, thinking of the ring he was certain was in one of those packages. "Shouldn’t we return for it?"

Frilda shook her head. "Do you trust me, Sir Ladwin?"

"With my life, Your Grace."

"Then trust that it is safe…but we will not be, if we don’t leave now. She swept by the old knight and further into the catacombs, passing row after row of ancient statues..

Above, the sounds of a raging fight shattered on. As they hurried along, Ladwin couldn’t help but voice a burning question in the back of his mind: "If I may, Your Grace, how bad is the situation? I had thought our attackers only a small number of intruders, when the fighting first broke.."

"It was, at first. But through some sorcery…those weapons you hear clashing are not steel against steel, Sir Ladwin. It is steel against shadow. An army borne of the night, and no doubt brought about by that muck."

Hange is deep in thought as they all together venture deeper into the darkness.

So it is Mordor? If this "magic" is anything like what I've heard, then maybe we need to be more cautious with this darkness.

"If shadow is what's causing our problem, then we'll be safer with a strong source of light," she says, offering up an idea, "Magic light is preferred, if any of you can manage it. I don't have a clue how it works, so sorry if that's an unreasonable thing to ask."

Hange does not sound particularly sorry, but her recommendation is genuine.

And it's something quite peculiar / Something shimmering and white.

If it was possible to keep the rope-bound, assassin-now-prisoner alive long enough to get information from him, that seemed pretty neat. Still, Taye's not holding her breath.

She looked to Kana, likely the strongest and most mobile, and thus the best person to take the prisoner. But she would rather have Kana come to that conclusion herself, and thus said nothing of it.

Taye followed Frilda through the catacombs, hearing the raging battle and an explanation of what was happening out there. Her mind flashed back to her own timeloops, when she had to carefully sneak through a sudden invasion upon 'her' castle... at least this time, far fewer non-combatants would perish.

Hange's suggestion made Taye think. It was evening when they arrived in the grand hall earlier on, before hell broke loose. Has night fallen? Did they choose to attack at nightfall for a reason? Nevertheless, it seemed unlikely that regular man-made light would work, or that anyone here would have light magic.

Taye narrowed her eyes as Ladwin spoke of returning for 'it'. "Queen Frilda. Promise that, after we get to safety, you will explain what you had meant to deliver through the packages. I see you wanted to keep it a secret, likely for good reason, but these are dire times."

HUB CENTRALIS - CHURCH OF GOR - BEACH POCKET DIMENSION THAT TURNED INTO A WHITE VOID

Jack watches Azura closely, seemingly impressed by her ability to endure the sheer force he just threw her way, then staggers as the Fiend brings on its gravity field. It's a testament to the absurd strength of his current state that he's able to stay standing, though his stance does visibly buckle as he watches what's about to happen. Fighting against the strain, he raises an arm to shield himself, atomic flames flaring violently as Azura's gigantic energy glaive comes crashing down.

It's nearly impossible to see at the moment of impact, but as the wave of white energy crashes against his form, gigantic plumes of green fire surge from his body. And then he and the flames disappear from view completely.

...

...

...

The world clears, and an answer to the unspoken question is provided - the nuclear inferno still stands, but Jack has been put through the wringer even in this superpowered state. His left forearm and hand is plain gone from view, slowly piecing itself back together as he limps his way back to the battle. He pauses briefly, giving his left leg a whack and wincing as it fixes itself properly, allowing him to walk once again. One can see his internal organs via a nasty gash in his left side, in a constant flux state of being unmade and remade by the wildfire enveloping his body, though the gash gradually mends itself.

By the time he gets over to a position of relevance, his main body has mended and his arm is on the way to being repaired. Going by the sound of mirthful chuckling echoing through the minds of those near him, the only thing that's stopping him from applauding Azura's efforts right now is that having only one intact hand makes that very hard to do. He stands nearby, waiting until his arm is mostly regrown, watching her closely.

   {Congratulations. The number of things from my worlds that can even scratch me in this state could be... wait for it...}    he starts, then his left hand regenerates.    {...counted on my hands. To be on that level, well, you've got something special going on.}

Jack could just go for the kill right now, but before he can do that, something occurs to him. He changes plans, performing the initially-baffling move of powering down instead, flames receding so that the aura he's putting out isn't quite as oppressive anymore. His gaze briefly lowers towards the ground as he thinks things through a bit more, then raises back up again, locking firmly on Azura.

   {Those expressions you've been making... Look, I'll be blunt. I don't know much about your history, or that of your peers, or even of the church. My initial impression hasn't been great, since one of the guy-or-gals that was with you directly threatened civilians to enforce compliance. If that weren't enough, I still remember that everyone who came here was told we'd be mindwiped and handed over to that weirdo if we lost the fight, too. But clearly there's something more to it if you're still fighting this sincerely, even with odds this badly stacked against you.}

He could be throwing himself directly into a philosophical trap with this one, but the only thing on the field burning brighter than his body is his curiosity. He has to know. Pacing around Azura, he continues to communicate with her, keeping the rest of his movements dedicated to defensive actions only - blocking, weaving, energy flares pointed towards any stray nonphysical attacks, that kind of business.

   {I don't quite get how you in particular benefit from this. Is there some kind of grander-scheme plan everyone's been working towards, or even just a coincidental alignment of goals? At the very least, some kind of redeeming factor that lets you tolerate the worse aspects of the organization? I don't want to just write you off as some kind of fanatic, not when I don't have any evidence to do that. So just... What purpose is all this determination of yours for?}

Jack hopes that the brief lull in the fighting will give sufficient time, and that Azura will be sufficiently cooperative, for him to be given proper answers. At least he's confident about bringing her down if it still proves necessary.

Kana isn't sure who's stronger between her and Kai, so she doesn't automatically out herself as the one most likely to subdue the assassin. However, she is confident in her draconic strength. And with the corruption removed from the assassin, it seems like it'd be possible for her to grab unto him if needed. Not that she does so though : she'd still need her hands free.

Hm, do you have some saltwater on yourself? She asks Taye, although Kaisui could also probably contribute. She still has her bottle on her but she think that it'd be wise to keep some on her. Not that she really need a lot of it : Kana basically reshape the existing watery "shield" she'd already formed into a circle. And, with the addition of just a tad more water, she's able to make it big enough to encircle a man.

Which she does, attempting to grab the man's arms to hold them down the sides of his body so that the water ring can properly entrap him. She heeds the Queen's words but is careful to consider them. Killing isn't something that bothers her when needed, but Kana has been taught that human life is precious. Fragile, yes, but precious exactly for that reason. And while it was justified to kill someone in self-defense or if another life was in danger, she'd rather not be too casual about murdering people, lest she forget her lesson and start thinking of human lives as meaningless.

It was maybe odd, she knew this, and perhaps she'd violated it casually letting those people back there die to save a bunch of princesses. But... Kana wanted to at least consider it.

And, pragmatically, it'd be easier to interrogate a live man rather than a corpse.

As for the ring of water - while water was hardly a shield, Kana being a Divine Vallite Dragon allowed her to give it special properties, like traveling through it, reinforcing it or just manipulating it. The former ability she wanted to bring up but there wasn't a spot of water for her to jump into. For there was a certain required wide and depth for water to be an accessway into the Astral Sea. And besides, while she had probably earned the royal and guard's trust by now, she wasn't about to tell them "hey, jump into that pool of water with me, it'll be great!"

So, she'd stick to her ability to make water magically hardy. If the assassin were to try to flex out of the spinning ring, it'd feel like trying to swim upshore of a raging river. And Kana was right behind him anyway.

Let's go.

Fallout 2? More like Fallout 2 bad.
