So, it's nitpicking (because I actually find it hilarious), but what's with Peter having a Christmas Album?

Wealth and Fame is ignored Spidey! Ignored!

Do you want to kill Uncle Ben again? Do you? Cause that's what happens when you don't ignore wealth and fame!

Also, watching the trailer again, and it looks like Tombstone is in this movie too.

You can clearly make him out behind Scorpion when the latter is attacking Miles.

There have been a lot of animated superhero movies but they're mostly targeted at the kids, and most are even on a TV budget, most have never been released in theaters. Disney beat SONY to it by releasing Big Hero 6, but that didn't catch on, and isn't based on a popular, profitable comic. This film appears to be the first in history that is gonna try to take superhero animated films seriously to the Hollywood audiences.

[up]It's a joke.

I still haven't seen anything here to indicate this isn't aimed at kids. Nothing in the trailer stood out to me as darker or more extreme than anything you'd have found in an episode of The Spectacular Spider-Man.

[up][up][up] Those products might exist, but Peter is most likely not getting a penny from any of them.

I mean, it's not like Spider-Man has his own bank account or a card in his own name to get sent royalties to. Or something like a Spider-Credit Card.

Some of the students of the Avengers Academy famously pointed out that Spider-Man could actually license his technology and merchandise if he simply used dummy corporations and bank accounts under fake names.

It's technically fraud, but hey, Batman and Green Arrow do it.

I wonder why Peni looks like exaggerated kawai anime. I mean she doesn't look like that in the source material, she was more realistic.

For a couple facts, Matt Murdock is an evil lawyer who works for Fisk, Captain America is a black woman, and Falcon is Cap's young male clone.

Well, Murdock doesn't work for Kingpin, he is the Kingpin in Earth-65.

I’m gonna be that guy and guess that Peni was always the Plan B (both in the comics and now here) in case Takuya Yamashiro was tied up in too many rights issues.

I think it's more likely they wanted a second female spider.

Plus they don't seem to have problems with using Takuya and Leopardon in the comics.

I'm curious, has there ever been an explanation as to why Miles has his mom's last name intead of his dad's?

Well in the comics his dad was a former criminal so he’s just ashamed of himself.

Even then though it’s not like it’s not that a big deal if the guy takes his wife’s last name.

My thesis had always been that due his Latino heritage he's going by the Latino naming theme. Which is [First name] [Mother's surname] [Father's surname]. So his full name is Miles Morales Davis.

It's the other way around. It father's family name first and then the mother's.

At least that's how it is in Puerto Rico and Rio is Puerto Rican.

They probably wanted to give her a new "gimmick" since they can't homage Neon Genesis Evangelion anymore.

She still has a mech, so her gimmick is the same.

That still works. So Miles Davies Morales and he just skips the Davies.

So Miles Davies Morales and he just skips the Davies.
His father's last name is actually "Davis." Which means, yes, his father is named "Jefferson Davis." And if Miles had taken his last name, he would be "Miles Davis."

She still has a mech, so her gimmick is the same.

Honestly, it probably had less to do with the gimmick and more to it fitting the pattern they're going with here, with the alternate universe Spideys having their own unique art styles (like how Spider-Ham is animated like an old-timey Looney Tunes type character).

Yeah, I admit what draws me to the movie is above all the attempt to play off different styles and animation methods against each other. Though I fear they won't do Silhouette animation.

It's the other way around. It father's family name first and then the mother's.

What? No it isn't. It' mother's name, then father's name, because the mother's surname was considered less important in the past, so only the last surname, the father's, was passed down. There are even families that omit the mother's surname and only hand down the father's. Or is that just a thing in Brazil, and all the other latin countries do it differently?

[up] Depends on the country and when the wedding happens within the country, because rules for this can change from time to time.

I think the last stand in Germany is that a decision has to be made which will be the dominant name in case the pair gets children (basically the children can no longer inherit combined name because the surnames started to become overly long), and the partner with the non-dominant name has to decide if he or she takes the name of the partner, keeps the own name or adds it to the dominant name.

Males taking the name of the female has become more common btw.

Huh. Over here people get to keep their name after marriage, and their children get each partner's last surname, although legally there's nothing stopping you from giving as many surnames as you want so long as they're somewhere in your family tree. As a result of that, I once met a girl who had five surnames, two for each of her parents and one of her granfather's. You can also have the opposite and only have one surname.

And, as I said, most commonly the father's surname is the one that comes last and is considered the main one.

[up][up] Like I said, it really depends on the country. Either Sweden or Denmark even had some sort of program at one point to encourage people to change their surname, because too many of them were named...I think it was Peterson.

What? No it isn't.

Yes it is. I'm Puerto Rican myself, so i would know. It's the father's surname first and then the mother's.

And again Rio herself is Puerto Rican. Not Brazilian.

Honestly, it probably had less to do with the gimmick and more to it fitting the pattern they're going with here, with the alternate universe Spideys having their own unique art styles

Still, i feel like they could have gone with a different anime style. Something closer to the source.

But that just me. Honestly, i'm just happy she's making her debut outside of comics.

[up]I’m looking at it juxtaposed with Spider-Ham having gone full Porky Pig and Noir being almost entirely in shading. It makes her stick out even more opposite Miles and Peter. So I get it completely.

Besides, she looks great in the style. The whole thing looks amazing, especially after so much subpar CG animation trying to replicate 2D like The Dragon Prince.
