. That’s why it’s so important to write for the medium. What works in Animation doesn’t necessarily translate to a live action movie or play, and vice versa.

Clickbait article about Gilbert Gottfried responding to Iago's recasting.
I like that they referred to Alan Tudyk as an "American treasure".
...
These seem to be happening like every month now, so maybe voice actors should just chill so we don't keep getting "actors pissed that they get replaced" articles!
Trailer's got me pumped. I might be in a Disney mood but they seem to have captured everything but the zaniness of the original which, as noted, just wouldn't be possible in live-action.
I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!Before I click, what's the verdict?
New theme music also a boxOn one hand I respect Tim Burton for doing his own thing and not feeling beholden to copy the original film,on the other hand,I feel like this was a huge missed opportunity, and they made Dumbo a side character to focus on the humans BAH
New theme music also a boxGood but overbearing visuals, sappy overstretched story, hammy acting. Pretty much what one would expect based on the trailer.
Literally all I care about is the pink elephants scene.
Is it in and is it good?
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Pink elephants appear but from what I can gather its not like a proper parade of them
New theme music also a boxPink elephants parade right out of the movie!
No parade? The ONE thing I thought would be interesting is the pink elephants on parade in Burton's style...
Animation Critic Jerry Beck (who IMO is one of the few open-minded critics out there) had this to say on his Facebook page regarding the Dumbo remake:
"If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all."
That does not bode well for me.
If there is no Pink Elephants scene done Burton-style, then frankly this movie has zero merit.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? You forget Tim Burton was the director of the film that STARTED this barrage of live-action remakes in the first place.
Actually it's been happening since they made a live action jungle book way back in the 80s-90s,and after came 101 Dalmatians
New theme music also a boxBut was it this rampant during 101 Dalmations? I recall these used to be few and far between.
That's mostly because they made good money but weren't that huge successes. Jungle Book was an outright flop. Their attempts to turn park rides into movies eventually struck gold, though.
... The Haunted Mansion did well!?
They mean Pirates of the Caribbean
New theme music also a boxI wouldn't say the earlier movies are the start of this trend, in the same way the Aladdin or Lion King sequels were not the start of the rush of sequels in the 2000's (that started with An Extremely Goofy Movie). Or in the same way Snow White isn't the start of Disney's famous princess fixation (that started with The Little Mermaid).
Disney's been making live action movies since the 40's, of which the 101 Dalmatians movie is an isolated example - I didn't start a trend, nor was it part of any particular one. Pirates kicked of an era of live action family friendly action movies, to be sure, but not specifically remakes. While the current direction of marketed live action remakes indeed started with them striking apparent gold in Alice In Wonderland.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. And that's part of the problem with all this: trends. Disney has more money than it ever has, but it only uses it to follow and then create the trends that everyone follows online. They're no longer following someone else's popular idea, they ARE the popular idea! It makes their output much more manufactured and much more numerous (Disney cranks out about 15 new movies a year).
I'm just waiting for them to announce The little mermaid as a live action movie, the scene in the Frozen 2 trailer with Elsa on the beach and the rolling tide immediately made me think that film,it may have been practise for that film in particular maybe

Eh. I think the Disney Parody sequence would get cut. It works better as comedy when you're already in a cabaret setting, but wouldn't work well on film. Its also there to set up the Aladdin disappearing-reappearing thing which is FAR less impressive on film as well.
